Grammy-winner John Mayer loves our redwoods

In the latest episode of Humboldt Last Week
Grammy-winner John Mayer did a Land Rover commercial in Del Norte County. In the long-form ad he goes to Jedediah Smith Redwoods, cruises our beautiful coastline, is seriously impressed by how old our redwoods are, and says we have “unbranded profoundness.”
“Why am I so happy right now?” Mayer quips rhetorically quips in the voiceover. “Because I don’t know where I’m going and it actually doesn’t matter.”
While Mayer’s past is not without cringe-worthy moments for which the New York Times said he gave himself “self-imposed irrelevance,” the guy has a lot of talent and can apparently star in compelling commercials.
“Only John Mayer can make me watch a 6 minute ad and enjoy it,” wrote one commenter about the locally-shot Land Rover ad on YouTube.
“That’s why people feel so connected to him, even though he’s a songwriting, guitar playing god, he’s the most down to (earth) guy ever,” wrote another.

It’s allowed, isn’t it? One of the best things about the north coast is the ability to have dogs and cars on the beach. Everything south of Mendo is regulated to the max. Of all the things polluting our oceans I think parking on the beach is at the bottom of the list.
Someone should make a film about Mike Bloomfield starring Mayer. He looks like Bloomfield and he can play all the guitar parts.

Who cares….everyone makes mistakes with what they said. Life, in and of itself is a work in progress, just like Mayer is. He learned the lesson, did the time and is now in a better place. Please, try and live in the present! #Letitgo

The man has apologised for his comments and we all need to move on. As for someone asking if we’d forgive Trump, eventually, if he is penitent enough and makes amends, why not? And let’s stop making comparisons for the sake of it. Mayer’s comments were glib but haven’t you said or done anything in your younger years that you regret? Even this article/audio clip didn’t have to reference his past. What point was being made? That he is human? The NYT piece reeks of biased profiling. Anything for clicks!

Agree 10 years of maturing and self reflection has made John Mayer a different man. People learn from their mistakes. He has done a lot of good with his Heart and Armor Foundation and donations to other charities. His music reflects this journey. Time to stop the hate.

You can find it on YouTube. His apology has been out for a long time now. People don’t change overnight but over a decade, that Dude has come leaps and bounds!! As far as his guitar playing with Dead & Company, I have seen Jerry play, and John brings the same magic that Jerry did!! Jerry would want us to go forward as a society. He would want these songs celebrated and to go FURTHUR!!! Ain’t no time to hate.
