That section of the road is like a speedway. With potentially wet conditions a crash there is far too common. Clearly speed was part of the problem, but what are the other factors. Could DUI be involved? Driving in Eureka has become a matter of risking your life lately . Sounds like at least this time only a pole was hit and not a pedestrian or other vehicle.

It would be great if all the want to be race car drivers would obey the law and save it for the track.

I’ve lived in this area for 10 years. We’ve lost count of the number of accidents (serious and minor) and near pedestrian-vehicle disasters. A double down hill slope mixed with speedway mentality is a bad mix.

It is round-a-bout time before some vehicle goes crashing through a house. Last night’s crash woke people up 100 yards away. Whomever walked away from that accident owes a gift to either the designer of the vehicle or his/her lucky stars. Same for the home that didn’t get a PG&E pole crashing through the roof in the middle of the night.

Time to do something Eureka–giving a few tickets hasn’t cured the problem. This could easily turn into a debacle and a failure of local authority to cure a predictable tragedy.
