Local group, Abolish Humboldt PD, which said they are “committed to dismantling the policing system of American culture” held a demonstration on the corner of F Street and 6th Street in Eureka yesterday, Sunday, September 20. The group, which started in the wake the Black Lives Matter movement, said they wanted to spread information about reallocating resources from local police forces to social programs.

Many of the signs at the demonstration referenced removing law enforcement from schools. Activists note that though juvenile crime rates are dropping, students subject to zero tolerance drug and weapons policies, face arrest for minor indiscretions from officers on located on campus. (For instance, an officer gained national attention last year when, in two separate incidents, he arrested two 6-year-olds, one for a temper tantrum in which she kicked a staff member.)

This has gone past the limit of any sense!

“Defund the media” was the homemade bumper sticker I saw yesterday…

Take away the coverage. Maybe these folks would find something else to keep themselves busy…

I think that burying our heads in the sand to some extent makes a happier person. You don’t have to be completely out of touch with the world. But being inundated with bad news 24/7 wears on alot of the population, especially if they don’t have a good sense of humor, or have the ability to realize most of the reporting is nothing new. I spend the a hour of everyday squashing drama. I live to flatten drama .

You’re part of the problem. Pumping pro grower and anti American fake news all day every day. LOCO and RHBB are the CNN and MSNBC of Humboldt.

These Marxist buffoons aren’t even paying attention to places that HAVE been defunded. Crime through the roof. Look at that Seattle encampment disaster. Constant crime and multiple murders. Minneapolis is a hellhole. Demos run Chicago and it is nonstop murder. Open your eyes to truth, not socialist propaganda. Stop pushing Chairman Mao’s agenda and attacking this once beautiful republic.

Johnny E, don’t worry, happy thoughts and positive vibrations will take care of everything. Any problems left over will be dealt with with timeouts and nurturing pats on the back. Clearly if there were no police finding crime, there would be no crime, and if there were total gun bans, everyone would just stop using them to commit crime and nobody would need them for self defense. Heck, this would apply to the military too. Done, nirvana has been achieved.

I’m surprised. Black lives matter, why?

BLM equates to Burning, Looting and Murdering. Correct?

There’s nothing false here. For that, you slandered me. You wrongly accused me of “HATE SPEECH”. Big mistake by you.

Your information while it maybe factual, is no more factual than my deleted comment. As you might understand, I don’t like being tossed under the bus because of cancel culture. Moderation is unacceptable. Just tell me to leave and I’ll go.

I write and speak to the truth as I see it. BLM is anti-American and does the “HATE SPEECH”, not I.

You should publicly condemn BLM for their violence and meanness. But you do the opposite.

She only gets political when backed into a corner and is forced to defend herself. When she does get political, she almost always shows a high level of open mindedness and displays good common sense. A problem with that self glorification is that the press is piss poor at even knowing what is poverty, crime and greed, much less identifying who to attack for it. If in fact the press would actually practice some form of rigorous impartiality rather than trying to educate, what is reported would be far more useful than what goes on now. It is now a notorious response to the survey questioning “Why did you become a journalist?” that the majority said they did it “To make a difference.” And they did not mean the difference between informed people and uninformed people. They meant to become the stars in the movie “All the President’s Men.” The movie they mostly ended up in is “Absense of Malice” mixed with “Ace in the Hole.” The presses unaccountability, the First Amendment and self glorification has lead to a whole lot virulence and violence in the US. A little humility- and not being so happy to believe sycophants – woukd go a long way.

Only in America is there an adult proxy battle fought out in schools. I have been told more than once about a cop “arresting” a child. And it was told by the the now grown children themselves with gratitude that the cop did it to scare them into stopping behavior that would have ended up getting them into real trouble if they had just been a little older.

If the press does not choose to provide information sufficient enough for a reasonble person to know there is a problem or not, then maybe no one should be assuming it’s a problem with the police just because there is the “defund police” going on in the big, assumable adult world.

A bunch of late owls we are.

Instead of defunding law enforcement we need to reform law enforcement and take out the militarization of police. The agency that needs defunding is the military itself. So much good could be done with that money instead of wasting it on more weapons of destruction and senseless wars that push us ever closer to midnight on the doomsday clock and do nothing to solve the problems our country truly faces. Right now our country is run by godless people who seek only their own benefit, irrespective of what party they belong to. That will not always be. There is a new world coming…up around the bend.

I’m all for slashing funding for law enforcement . You can’t COMPLETELY defund them but they’ve become violent thieves. What we should do to start is demand that more of our measure o money goes to fire fighters and not to a sheriff making 300,000 a year and greedy little self raise giving extorting supervisors. But dumboldt is full of duh voters so good luck !!!!!

First I just made general comment about what the set base salary of a POTUS is, as opposed to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s salary. That was all I did.

However, I say snarkily, his properties are making bank with his and his family’s visits.

Charging the Secret Service “resort fees” and charged the Secret Service 1300.00 for a “furniture removal charge” (because the SS needed to use the rooms they had to rent from Trump, Inc. for his protection, while in his isolated Scottish resort.)

Or having Pence stay at his Irish resort, which was clear across the country from where Pence was meeting the Irish politicians. It should also be noted that the US taxpayer had to pay to shuttle (fly) Pence back and forth across Ireland with that stunt on top of whatever staying at Trump’s property cost)

He has visited his own properties over 271 times since he has been office, each time charging the SS to protect him. He even charges the SS golf cart fees so they can protect him.

So I think he has more than recouped that 400K a year he “gave up”.

He said he would keep his presidency far away from his business. In fact when he was campaigning in 2016 he said he wouldn’t visit his properties. And yet he tried to get the G7 to meet at his Doral resort (the one that had a bedbug problem previously). There was enough of an outcry about that one that he finally backed off of that idea.

But anyway, the POTUS makes more than Honsal.

HotCoffee
Guest
HotCoffee

And I made a comment about what Trump does with his salary, so whats your problem.

Also last time I checked any person has a right to visit their own property, with or without their security detail.

Where is Bidens security detail staying?? Does Nancy’s security stay at her wineries when shes there? What about Nancy reserving military aircraft exclusively to wiss her off to wherever she wants to go? Doesn’t the Government pay for it. Doesn’t the staff have to clean up after they leave? So, shouldn’t they get paid?

Why does Hunter Biden get to ride around on air force two?
Does it get cleaned when he gets off?
How come Hunter doesn’t get cited for leaving his drugs behind in rental cars and who pays for those rental cars?

Why is Biden’s family rolling in Dough from everywhere Joe goes like Ukraine, China, etc.? Rumor has it that the Ukraine prosecutor
demands Joe come testify about that.

Want to answer any of those questions snarkily?

Communism sits on both sides of that line my dear. Trump’s campaign literally pulls from Hitler‘s playbook (even the slogans are the same! ).

Spouting that the Democrats are communist and Republicans are not is like saying Ice cream will make you fat and butter wont. BOTH parties are full of empty calories and run by the same wealthy entities. As long as we keep arguing they are content.

And you can see how well parents teaching their kids about sex has gone… We have some of the highest teen pregnancy rates rates in the world! .

That assumes that teens don’t know how humans get pregnant. Or that they think it is worth the effort to avoid unprotected sex. Maybe “unintended” is not the same thing as “unaware.” Part of the problem is of course that a child oriented towards and responsible for making a future for themselves is not as vulnerable as a child who is just looking to enjoy the moment. And public schools have a schizophrenic attitude between making child responsible for themselves and telling them they are good enough as they are.

But it would be surprising to find that home schooled girls have a higher pregnancy rate than public school girls. Very disturbing if anyone chose to get data that showed that.

I bet if a counter protester had walked up and punched one of them in the face, the first call they make would be to 911 for the cops. In fact, I feel like attending a protest like this is a defacto waiver: ‘I will never utilize police services, ever”.

Yet, it is a matter of some hilarity that most of these defund / abolish people also are incapable of defending themselves. I would get it if some burly dude with an AR who lives in the hills and drives an old K5 Blazer was in favor of defunding… he don’t need the cops, he can handle his own. But these waify lisps? They’ll buckle if you throw a daisy at them, and run away, crying for their mommy or their mommy. I refer you to the local protesters who were “tapped ” by a car as they blocked traffic on 5th St. They called the cops. Called the cops to report that they were hit by a car while rioting against the cops…

Maybe before trying to eliminate the only safety net keeping the animals from tearing them apart, these social parasites should bulk up, gun up, and harden up. I’d suggest they get jobs and move out of grandma’s house, too; though I guess most of them probably consider themselves to be employed: organizer, social networker, influencer… you know, the important jobs this country was built on the back of.

What is unclear, to me anyway, is just how they could think that a child could be put in prison… Heck, in Humboldt County, you just about have to get caught red-handed killing or injuring someone, to spend a night in jail… “Burst the school to prison pipeline??” I just don’t know what this weak-ass idea has to do with taking funding from the police and funding social programs… And, on the whole, it’s not a simple-minded approach, it’s a feeble attempt at rational thought! Are these college-kids?

We obviously don’t always agree, and, when I suggested that, according to Transparent California, Billy Honsal makes $300,000/year, you protested, along with several other people, but now, you are stating the fact!

So, we have stuff to learn from each other!

Meanwhile, this “protest”, whatever the heck it’s for, is WAY less sensible than protesting, hmmmm, unjust undeclared wars in foreign countries, for instance!

“Yeah, just take the cop’s money and use it to, I dunno, fix income inequity, or, heck, fix inequality between the ethnic groups and genders… Yeah, it will be enough!

Then, if Johnny or Susie smarts off to the teacher, or throws an eraser, gets disciplined by having an essay, say, assigned, or gets a “study-hall”, and then the next day, Johnny shows up at school with a Glock .45 or an AR-15 and shoots the teacher and the Vice Principal and little Susie besides, and there’s no Policeman to do, well, anything, then how have we improved society? I have to tell you, that Johnny will go straight to Jail, from School, and, he most likely won’t be back…

So, what have we learned?

I guess we live in a society in which nobody feels that they have to obey laws, and since nobody obeys the law, we somehow don’t need Police-people? Because, then, we would be feeding the School to Prison Pipeline?

Like I said, Feeble Minded…

Then, they plaster their irrational and under-educated thoughts, all over social media, cause, that’s what we all do these days, right next to the photos of the nearly-naked women… And this is the condition of political and social discourse, half-baked thought covered in angst, waved in the face of the community, on a Sunday!

The hippies in San Francisco who marched for Women’s Rights, Gay Rights, an End To The Vietnam War, Black Power, Free Speech etc, etc, all these people would laugh up their sleeves at this little misspelled “protest party”, wrong minded, and ill-advised as it is…

That’s all I meant, and I never said they should Shut Up, either…

I just want to say thank you to those who have posted without hate and who recognize partisan rhetoric is a psychological ploy used by the extremely wealthy as a dividing factor among the masses (it has always been this way…even in biblical times). This includes the insane rhetoric on BOTH sides of the partIsan line (a line created to separate us). We will never solve our myriad of systemic problems by checking off a few boxes on a Scantron sheet in a voting booth every few years, nor by arguing or pointing fingers at groups of people (especially the youth… They’re young! Every 20-year-old thinks they know everything until the school of hard knocks teaches otherwise). Communication is our ally. Democrats, for example, are not a massive group of bad people who seek to steal rights. Nor are conservatives. Each of us is an individual also wading though the same wealth-wielded Snap-face-Insta-twit misinformation sludge. Most of us share many ideologies with dem AND rep brothers and sisters. (Stress brothers and sisters). All of us can grow by communicating with each other.
Media IS the problem: from video gaming to commercial television to the non-stop barrage of social posting and rating. Our lives (especially our youth) are more and more disconnected from reality as we are spellbound before the screen. And since we have leadership that contradicts everything, including itself, calls out “fake news” while creating it, and spurts hate to create chaos, we must connect and communicate more than ever. Systemic change is needed (our system works to keep the wealthy well seated in their abundant wealth while the masses scramble over remaining 1%). Numbers don’t lie. DEFUND the billionaire class!

Thank you KYM for keeping us informed. Good press is our gateway to truth and commonality.

Hollycreeklove, your points are well taken. Thank you for your remarks.

I rather enjoy mid-century humorist Fred Allen’s take on television as American society was moving away from
radio’s media dominance as a source of information and entertainment and toward the burgeoning new media source. He said, “Television is a medium because anything well done is rare.” For me, that can be applied to current information mediums as well.

Oh, and I agree, defunding the billionaire class is the first place to start.

Great comments Holly & Rowley. Learning to see through the divide and conquer narrative control is very much a process of learning to work with your own internal mental processes, and expanding outward from there with fierce compassion. It is quit literally a spiritual journey, one that we all must make otherwise our worst mental poisons take over the drivers seat and we are easily manipulated. Our collective survival depends on us individually evolving in this way.

In a perfect world there would be no need for police. However, we are not in a perfect world. Reading a few headlines to on Redheadedblackbelt proves it.

I wonder how many of these kids were at the party where Lawson was killed? Sitting there yelling eff the police while a kid bleeds to death? That pretty much sums up the level of intelligence that college kids possess. I do believe they are referring to inner city schools, but it’s allot nicer to protest in Eureka than Compton now isn’t it? Schools shouldn’t have metal detectors and cops at the door, but they shouldn’t have gangs in them either. Most people in humboldt are fortunate enough to be removed from allot of the country’s problems and as such were just tired of having college kids try to enlighten us on issues that aren’t issues here. Putting school kids in jail? We don’t even keep Marci Kitchens or wade Harris in jail. The only time in my entire schooling that I saw active cops on campus for any extended time was when they were trying to catch a 23 who was sleeping with a 15 year old, but hey even that’s half ass legal now.

Considering how many years ago that was, and that most students come and go in 3-5 years, I’d wager none of these folks were at the party where Josiah was murdered.

Pro tip- if you put the word “abolish” in your name, it just might provoke a defensive and reactionary response instead of an open minded one. Just sayin.

Aren’t these rules established by the school administrations and governing bodies; usually at the request of parents. The officers assigned to the schools are the ones tasked to enforce the rules they do not make them. Yet who is blamed for the end results…our problem is we do not take responsibility for our choices, it is always someone else’s fault, yet we hold the cops responsible for doing their job or not doing their job. Descretion is a great tool but is always subjected to “Monday Night Quarter backing”.

I’m for increasing police funding and giving them better training to avoid future incidences like that of GF. Take away the thin blue line and you have anarchy and unrest – exactly the conditions Antifa and BLM desire to achieve their Marxist goals.

No it’s because we have tens of thousands of idiots in this country that go bonkers anytime a violent career criminal finally gets what they are asking for .

if random law abiding citizens are getting shot by the police Indiscriminately we have a problem but it turns out 99 percent of these fools are straight up scumbags

It’s high time that parents educated their own children.
Your body, your child, your responsibility.
Public schools are merely euphemized boarding schools anyways, right POC/SJW’s?
..And when the product of public education is mobs of kids who want to tear down their parents society, well, maybe it’s time to tear down the schools and make parents bear the burden of their choice to procreate in this unfertile era.
Go to hell protesters!

I wonder just how many de-funders are parents of children who actually attend the schools.
Or
How many are just pontificators of what’s good for other peoples Children.

Hard to believe parents want their kids subject to drugs traffickers and miscreants hanging around their kids schools.

A good school resource officer provides countless benefits to a school. Most school resource officers serve as liaisons between schools and the communities they serve and help solve all kinds of issues and problems in a positive way. A school resource officer helps students and staff feel safe on campuses in a nation with increased amounts of gun violence happening in schools. If we remove school resource officers then it just increases the burden on school staff such as teachers and counselors to keep students safe and solve school/community problems that arise. Like other issues in policing, it comes down to training and reform and absolutely where there are unhealthy arrangements on school campuses with ineffective or even overly aggressive school resource officers then that needs to be addressed. I’m also interested in what reforms might be wise for the position of school resource officers. However, to outright abolish school resource officers would be a step backwards.

I don’t believe in the defund movement. Using their own words I don’t see “drug and (especially) weapons” violations as a “minor indiscretions “!!!

But, my family over the years have fought for their right to state their opinion.

The only thing I really wish the media would do that’s simple is, when identifying these people write in the town they are from. Ex: John Doe (Bakersfield). Would be interesting to see how many people get shipped up here “for a cause”

When you’re rated 37th in education it seems like there are more pressing issues than police at schools.
Unless your child is always in trouble.

Like maybe reading, writing and arithmetic.
But if we stay focused on the police we can ignore the real problems right?

Here is my two cents worth on the Sheriff/Cops on performing their duties! I’m all for GOOD Cops, it is the BAD Cops who need to be taken out (fired for not obeying their OATH of Office), remember they are our public servants, not our masters,. Here are my thoughts on how to do just that. 1. Take away their qualified immunity: Our public servants are not above the LAW that they swore to uphold; and that goes even to the DA’s office and to the Judges in the courtroom. Qualified immunity means that when they break the law they get (maybe) a slap on the hand. 2. Police Unions have way to much say in whether a BAD cop should or shouldn’t get fired. Usually the Police Union will not fire a BAD Officer. (BAD FORM)! 3. Having Internal Affairs decide if an Officer did anything illegal by their actions, you know (The fox guarding the chicken coup). Almost always the Internal Affairs will find that the Officer followed Police guide lines and did nothing wrong. Wrong doing by an Officer should be investigated by a separate civilian board!! 4. Make the officer get their own insurance to pay for any liable suit that may occur when any officer breaks a “WE THE PEOPLE” RIGHT or goes against the OATH that they took willingly and without reservation. That way the taxpayers do not get stuck with the bill. 5. Take away the QUOTA system, oh I mean the job performance review. An Officer gets promoted on how many arrests they make, how many tickets they write, how much money they bring in! That could/might lead an Officer to be more aggressive in their “QUOTA’s), I mean their job performance reviews! 6. Stop giving tickets or making arrests for victimless crimes!!! Remember your OATH of Office and remember that the “PUBLIC SERVANT” does not tell the MASTER what to do. 7. I would wish that recruits at the CR academy get at least 12 months of training instead of 6 months; and with that extra time teach the new recruits the CONSTITUTION, both the state and the U.S. and that not all “WE THE PEOPLE” are guilty (BAD) of something and that we have to prove we are not!!
