The August Complex is now 836,871 acres and 34% contained as cooler, moist weather rolled over the complex for a few days slowing down the spread.

This morning’s briefing from Cal Fire noted that a large part of containment lines for the Humboldt sector have been completed so some resources will be moved to the southwest where the fire is still active northwest of Lake Pillsbury.

The fire is slowly creeping down Rattlesnake Ridge south of Post Mountain towards Hwy 36 but dozer operators and hand crews are putting in lines to try and stop the fire before it gets there.

The fire is also moving slowly towards the Ruth area but firefighters have plans in place to minimize the impacts and keep structures protected.

The eastern side of the Complex is mostly contained allowing resources to be moved to the south westside to fight the fire which is still trying to continue its destructive course.

The Plan:

The North side plan from the U.S. Forest Service – Shasta-Trinity National Forest: (About twelve minutes long.)

See this for West Zone (Briefing starts about minute :30:

The Weather:

Warm and dry weather for the next few days with temperatures from the seventies up to the nineties in the valleys. There will be pockets of thick smoke over the areas of the fire possibly lightening towards later in the afternoon. Mostly light winds will be from the northeast in the morning and moving towards the northwest in the afternoon.

Possible rain coming late Wednesday night and Thursday, continuing possible showers through Saturday. Maybe like last week. Hope for some measurable rain, but even the cooler high humidity air will help.

Good luck to those who need it.

I agree. In fact, barring any historic heat/wind event from happening, we are heading into my favorite time of year, beautiful fall, when the fire season changes into the prescribed fire season, and a couple of weeks from now I’d be out on a beautiful full moon night torching a big slash pile, playing guitar, drinking a pale ale and sampling this years crop. Those were the good old days for me. Always a joyous time.
