Men, Woman, and a Juvenile Girl Held by Armed Robbers for Several Hours, Says Mendocino Sheriff’s Office

This is a press release from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Mendocino County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) feature

On 9-19-2020 at approximately 4:00 P.M., deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an armed robbery that occurred at the Black Oak Ranch in the 49000 block of North Highway 101 near Laytonville, CA.

Law enforcement personnel from the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau, California Highway Patrol, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Mendocino County Inter-Agency SWAT team also responded to assist with this incident.

After law enforcement personnel arrived at the scene and met with the numerous victims, an investigation ensued where the following information was learned. On 9-17-2020, Tyler Bagliere and his father, Louis Bagliere, went to the rural property near Laytonville, CA with two black male adults, later identified as Lathiaro White and Anthony Watson. These subjects were armed with firearms and held a number of victims who were at the property at gun point while demanding money. A firearm was discharged at or near the victims during this incident. The suspects later left the property after stealing approximately 20 pounds of marijuana, and stated they would return in two days.

On 9-19-2020, Tyler Bagliere returned to the above property with three black male adults who were later identified as Christopher Stewert, Deangelo Villalona, and another unidentified adult male. Stewert and Villalona were armed with a firearm on this date and the unidentified suspect discharged a firearm at or near the victims while demanding payment from them. The victims at the scene were identified as 3 adults males, an adult female, and a juvenile female who were held at gunpoint for several hours.

During the continuing investigation, law enforcement personnel stopped a van that was attempting to leave the area. Louis Bagliere, Lathiaro White, and Anthony Watson were located in the van along with multiple assault rifles equipped with large-capacity magazines and a loaded handgun.

The victims were interviewed during this investigation and it was determined they were not injured during the robbery on 9-17-2020 or 9-19-2020.

Evidence was located at the scene of the robberies that corroborated the victim’s statements regarding the incidents.

The following suspects were arrested for the listed charges in relation to this investigation:

Tyler Bagliere: Armed robbery in concert, assault with a deadly weapon, felony child endangerment, and criminal threats.

Lathiaro White: Armed robbery in concert, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, discharge of a firearm at an inhabited dwelling, and being armed with a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Anthony Watson: Armed robbery in concert, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, discharge of a firearm at an inhabited dwelling, and being armed with a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Christopher Stewert: Armed robbery in concert, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, discharge of a firearm at an inhabited dwelling, and being armed with a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Deangelo Villalona: Armed robbery in concert, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, discharge of a firearm at an inhabited dwelling, and being armed with a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Louis Bagliere: Armed robbery in concert and criminal threats.

Louis Bagliere was cited and released during this investigation due to per-existing medical conditions. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office requested a bail enhancement on the other arrested suspects, which was granted for a no-bail status. Tyler Bagliere, White, Watson, Stewert, and Villalona were transported to the Mendocino County Jail where they were ultimately held on a no-bail status.

There was another unidentified adult male suspect who was not apprehended during this investigation. The outstanding suspect is described as a black male adult, approximately 20-30 years old, short / thin build, and possibly armed with a firearm. The suspect fled the area of the scene on foot and has not been located at this time. Please do not attempt to contact or detain this suspect as he is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information relating to this case or the outstanding suspect is requested to call the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at 707-463-4086.

Okay! Now it sounds like the growers had a debt they were trying to not pay? “We took 20 pounds now and we’ll be back in 2 days”. That does not sound like a random theft at all! Who are these growers to set up a situation like this? They put their entire neighborhood in danger and then had every cop in the county roaming around….I am not justifying the guns and threats, just saying this sounds now like a bad relationship gone wrong that became everybody else’s big problem!
I don’t forget that the very wrong murder done in that same neighborhood was the terrible result of a payment misunderstanding.

It does seem fishy. Maybe these people were investors who got screwed. Wouldn’t they have just called the cops on the 17th if it were all on the up and up. You know weed being legal and all

Same place I heaR where the murder happened by the trimmers , the owner of that farm behind black oak ranch is a bad player And not a good neighbor to anyone.. if it’s legal that farm should be shut down if it’s not it should be shut down…. sounds like the owner owed money or something not a random robbery

Wonder why the Sheriff’s report only cites race if the people are Black? Other evidence points to the Sheriff being a bigoted nutcase so perhaps that’s why?

Saying the race is racist, instead it should say he’s a socially economically disadvantaged individual attempting to redistribute the ill gotten plunder of colonial capitalists. Hashtag2020

Typically if the offenders are black they will just use the term male, or do as LOCO does and don’t report the crime at all. Haven’t you noticed how all of these armed weed robberies by blacks have magically disappeared in the last six months? Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Uhh- I didn’t see anybody’s race mentioned until the description of the
guy they were looking for. Maybe they should have left “black” out of the description. Just a guy in his 20-30’s, short, thin build. Kinda fits a lot of people eh?

i was raised in the bay..worked in Oakland…when something happened to a black person by a white person they said, ” white male,blablabla..
I am part black myself and i use all kinds of skin color descriptions depending on the situations…sometimes you need to do that …you can’t say looking for,” a car with 4 doors” you say a white ca a blue car…. all this crap going on these days is just making life ridiculous. don’t jump on everyone’s bandwagon because it’s “what’s happening” don’t make more out of something than what it is…

His pre-existing conditions didn’t stop him from the rigors of armed robbery, it shouldn’t stop him from being held accountable, either. I’m sure he was aware of the pandemic before he decided to do this too. Why are these guys rewarded for their behavior?

The sheriff didn’t want to pay for additional medical staff to be at the jail 24/7.

They shouldn’t pay for any extra medical staff. Like I said, dude knew there is a pandemic. Violent criminals should be put in jail, because they are doing the crime at their own risk, and there are consequences. We need to stop treating violent criminals like entitled toddlers who don’t think before they act. Why are they protected from the results of their actions? Give them a mask and put them in jail. If he was worried about Corona he could have sat at home and read a book, not go hold a gun on men, women and children.

The treatment they require might go beyond what you are thinking.
He might be a diabetic or some other pre existing condition that requires daily maintenance.
A nurse has to administer medication, by law.

Book him and then charge him for his extra care! Again, I don’t see how he doesn’t need to be held accountable. I realize this has become a societal thing where criminals have more rights than victims but I am still burned by how lackadaisically our society now views and deals with violent crime.

Why didn’t the victims report the incident on the17th? They put their neighbors in danger. I think they should also face some consequences.

It’s part of the fishy turn that the tale has taken. Releasing the old guy even though he was committing “armed robbery” also points to it being an escalated business disagreement. No- I do not know the exact story here. But I know the business a little bit….In Laytonville area (circa 1981) we used to say “Never call the cops. Handle your own shit.” Oh- “and don’t have the kids around the business.” Yes- Now I am questioning who is actually doing the child endangerment…sorry if this sounds like “victim blaming”. I am only victim questioning….

IDK the circumstances behind this.. but who is to say the offending party wasn’t exploiting the growers possibly? Often I hear.. what did the growers do to deserve this? Perhaps the misconception wasn’t necessarily on the growers end. Other parties can also be exploitive. Who’s to say? I think the bottom line.. the offending party chose to settle the differences, if there where any, through violent means, and that’s messed up..

It can be a difficult decision for original growers to call the cops in situations like this.. and then what do you say? Hi got an illegal grow that was threatened? It’s probably the very last thing a grower on the hill wants to do anyway. Probably just going to get laughed at, then raided.. the only way the cops would do or can do anything is probably when a robbery is in progress.

Maybe if the permit process wasn’t so exclusive, and overbearing.. more people could come into compliance, pay a reasonable amount of taxes.. and not fear the law enforcement end of things as well as violent thugs..

Smallfry- Thank you! Idk the particular circumstances either. I appreciate your entirely plausible theory that runs counter to mine. I’ve seen situations where the growers were really the good hard workers who were set up and getting exploited by “the boss” that year. The boss who decided he wanted and deserved more… And yes- there are many ways of working out differences short of bringing in muscle and guns. Much better ways. The biggest fault in any case goes to the side who escalated the disagreement by bringing artillery to the discussion and holding the others captive. I agree.

Old guy apparently used to live in Laytonville. Has multiple court cases in Mendocino County, criminal and civil, going back to 2007, 2014, 2018. Also arrests out of county for manufacture of meth, , which he apparently plead guilty to , and vandalism, criminal traffic, and others.
He may be who brought the others here, and HE gets released. Makes you go….huh?

Well, if there are some people whose color is not mentioned, how do you know they’re not black, too? Can’t jump to conclusions.

I agree with rain except black is not a color and neither is white, they are shades. But yea, what was the shade or color of the VAN (probably white since it wasn’t mentioned). It’s time we start stating those things if we use it to descibe. Such as, when a white shaded cop kills a brown colored or black shaded unarmed woman.

How bout, just, 4 dudes with assault rifles and the shade or color of the van.

Lol.. come on. Everything isn’t racism.. shoot, if you think Derek Chauvin is a racist murderer, you might just be racist yourself. Why? Because he’s white? So he MUST be racist right? And he DEFINITELY killed George Floyd on purpose. Because he was black. And no black cop has EVER put knee to neck to another black person like that and not listened when they said they couldn’t breath. No. Never.

They forgot The End at the end of the story and Once Upon A Time in the beginning. Tough to be legal when ya got traditional market quotas.

Theirs a thin line between taxes and assault rifles.

you have to include the color or people wouldn’t know what to look out for….easier getting full description race, color
height weight maybe even identifying clothing on. tatoos..somethings just need to be said ..if there white there white if there black there black or Chinese,Hispanic etc…if there doing the crime they can own who the hell they are…black white purple it doesn’t matter just easier to apprehend. sick of BLM WHAT THE HELL…if your black and you are doing the crime own your color same as white and so on and so on …to touchy feely its crap that’s what it is….

I have been reading articles like this for years about local pot farms. Still blows my mind that everyone focuses on the the subsequent results of illegal activity but condones the initial acts. It’s ok to turn your peaceful neighborhood into a war zone as long as your growing weed. You reap what you sow. Engage in criminal activity don’t be surprised if it results in an assault rifle pointed at your face. Law of attraction, universal karma do something positive to get a positive result.
