Sheriff’s Deputies Back Arcata’s Measure F

humboldt deputy Sheriff's OrganizationPress release from the Humboldt Deputy Sheriff’s Organization:

Front line public safety professionals proud to support their firefighter colleagues in protecting their community

As the air quality remains poor and we pray for the safety of our neighbors and their property, HDSO would like to formally endorse Measure F in the Arcata Fire District.

“It has never been more apparent how crucial firefighters are to the safety of our community,” said HDSO President Jamie Barney, “as law enforcement officers, we rely on the medical expertise and mutual support of local fire agencies, and adequate staffing and equipment are obvious priorities in our community.”

“We urge the public to support Measure F this November because we really are all in this together.”

As the air quality remains poor

who told alves to keep the fire going and decided to not help him put it out and then left so that he now holds all the responsibility for the act of climate change (a.k.a. fire)

Yes on Measure F!!! Our FD has been essentially gutted and people are wondering why they can’t do their job. AFD has not had a funding increase for 14 years. What has increased are call volume, cost of training and equipment, and the risk of not having enough people to safely do their job. It’s not rocket science. I’d rather pay a local firefighter to do their job effectively than pay an insurance company higher premiums because we don’t have adequate protection for our area. Or worse. Don’t think that will happen? Well, in today’s world I’m not willing to take that chance.

Why not just close the McKinleyville station? They’re the ones that voted for the closures in the first place.

Ask HSU to fork over. A little less landscaping would not be missed. Maybe they could set up their own fire department just as the they have police.

I stand firmly with the law enforcement officers in asking people to vote yes of F. Those fire stations all need to be maned 24/7. By not passing measure F, I fear it will leave the town very unprotected. Sooner or later a firefighter, home owner, etc., is going to pay with their life because of lack of equipment and firefighters. Wake up Arcata, learn or burn!

I’m not a firefighter. I just find the duplicity astounding. Good for you, Martin, for changing your mind? or whatever. Measure F is worth supporting, even if it comes from someone who posts insults against our volunteers.

Martin, with all due respect, people who are going into these professions, are neither blind or dumb.

The danger is real, and so is costly life insurance.

None of us get out alive , but are the benefits are justified in a world where independent business owners are losing their jobs and livelihoods?

Why don’t the sheriff’s department give up some of that 78% of measure o that was supposed to go to the fire departments ?? Honsel and the supervisors hogged it all to terrorize land owners (taxpayers) and to give themselves fat raises and by military equipment!!!!

I wonder if the Sherrif Dept was asked if they supported Arcata Defunding their police department?
Still trying to get the real numbers as to the actual fire calls AFD responded tot last year in the AFD district.
Also the salary/benefit/duty differences between a Fire Captain and a Battalion Chief.
Battalion Chief Campbell has been unresponsive so far.

Uri- I sincerely hope people see through you and the game you play. By the way- Campbell isn’t the fire chief. If you truly want answers to your questions you can speak directly to the chief. In a Redwood News segment I watched this morning he gave out the AFD phone number and encouraged people to call and ask him about Measure F! Plus, there is an entire article in the Mad River Union that bullet points every falsehood you have said regarding Measure F. It’s disgusting the way you have tried to mislead the public.
