Send in the unarmed social workers!!!
Instead of arriving in the Bearcat they could arrive in a VW bus named the “Scaredycat”…
Given the circumstances, that is a particularly stupid and ignorant comment. If the man barricaded has voiced his intention to commit “suicide by cop”, an unarmed social worker with the proper training makes a lot more sense.
Patriot in Willits, that sounds great until the social worker is shot in the face. Go to the police academy, get hired, put in time then comment.
Greg Musson, I’m a little too old for a career change at this point, and I don’t think my not having a law enforcement background disqualifies me from having an opinion. Since you’ve served in that capacity, let me ask your opinion; is using the SWAT team always warranted in a hostage situation?
Deescalation seems to be critical to resolving it peacefully. If there’s no sign that the hostage-taker is armed, is an overwhelming display of force sometimes counterproductive?
Actually, while it doesn’t negate your opinion, would you as a layperson know that the swat team has access to many more less lethal options than any patrol officer does? Would you as a normal person know that the swat team has much more equipment to view the inside of the residence and a patrol officer wouldn’t, would you as a normal person know that activating the swat team actually lowers liability and lowers the risk of someone getting injured rather than a normal patrol officer?
Citizen Z- thank you, do make some good points. The ability to have a variety of responses is important, obviously. Also, thank you for making the assumption that I am “a normal person” In retrospect, I should not have called Pike Mortars comment stupid and ignorant. They were just attempting to be funny, I suspect, and keeping your senses of humor these days is important.
Thank you, I was trying to be funny, although to be fair I am also incredibly stupid.
Well said Greg
not for the social worker
Patriot in Willits is right on the money
You realize that having universal Healthcare plus more mental health services free and available would help lessen these situations. Why bring this up? Because that’s something defunding would allow. Also, did you read the article? He made suicide by cops statements which means it is understood to him that they take the law into their own hands and murder whenever.
Slade Wilson so our righteous assumption would be then, that when someone points a gun in your face, or steals your car, you won’t call the police and disturb them with your “problems??” But you’ll be fine until the Social Worker gets there!!??
Unfortunately, free health care and free mental health care don’t really come in to play. Yes it would be nice, however with the existing laws, it is extremely difficult to get help for a mental patient as they have to ask for it themselves, and often are unaware that they even need the help. Take it from experience, even when our family member went to Semper Virens voluntarily to register as a mental patient after a stay at an out of county mental hospital, they were turned away and we were told it is not uncommon for someone to hear voices. It took six years of dealing with an unmedicated individual that was paranoid and having hallucinations, continued deterioration even was a danger to herself and others (the requirement for forced care) and still no help. It wasn’t until she obtained a 22 pistol and shot at her husband that she ended up in jail only go be let go with probation and still remains unmedicated. So no universal healthcare is not the only answer to mental health, laws need to be changed. Humboldt County mental health system is no different than our current revolving door system at the county jail.
So would killing these drug addict dregs of society
Or spend more time in school to be sufficiently educated to be
a BARBER
The drug addicts intentionally created by the US government when taking over the world opioid/ heroin market? 100 to 1 civilian casualties over military but the pharmaceutical corps made enough to cash out. Is that who you mean? Including the 85 year.olds on the bus?
yes…..that would be ideal! shall we bring this to County supes?
they can all hold hands and sing koombaya and im sure the guy will come out
…or they could send in armed social workers.
I’m not sure I hey can squeeze a VW Bus into the budget what with the cost of that BearCat in addition to all the overtime this is gonna compound.. Sriously though, I watched the first 2 minutes of that newscast just up to when they called for backup and then I just thought are they for real they have like 10 cops and a bearcat already. It’s one guy armed with an unconfirmed pickaxe and some pots and pans… Backup?
They don need no stinking backup!..
And for real, are you mining for gold or taking a hostage. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a pickaxe.. maybe there should be a background check and a waiting period for pickaxes…
Although, I think I’ve heard it said, “never bring a pickaxe to a suicide by cop gunfight”
Anne D. out…
So if I hold you hostage you dont think LE should be prepared for the worst case scenario? They shouldn’t use their best efforts because your life isn’t worth it? Tell that to the hostage and get her perspective. Your ignorance is showing.
Chances are greater than 5/1 that he’s one of you red-hat bedizened droolers clinging to a gun and a lost social order. They should have went in, guns blazing, like they’d do if he were “antifa’ or the black panthers. But they don’t kill their own kind, do they?
Just drive that Dame thing in there drag his stupid spun ass out of there sounds like he has way too much meth. In his system
Stupid and ignorant comment, Not a all, really f’ing Funny though!!!
Thank God it ended without bloodshed. Way to go HCS waiting him out to a peaceful resolution
Kym, have you ever considered turning off the comment section? Or at least requiring a click to see it, so my silly self will stop looking at what these same old idiotic trash mouths have to say to every little thing? It’s a bane to my Soul. …. Yeah, I know. It’s on me, and I’ll handle it.
If you don’t like the comments don’t read them. Its that simple. Loco stopped their comments for a bit, it seemed kinda boring. Some comments are kind of funny.
I agree with mo, the majority of the comments on this site are from wacked out, racist, trump supporting trolls.
Coming from a dumacratic liberal POS, That makes a lot of sense.
You’re just one click away. Take responsibility and click off if you don’t like the comments. Can you do anything for yourself?
I can remember back in the 70’s Mckinleville was a peaceful little town, but not anymore. So very saddening!!
This happened in the early 70’s. My former in-laws were friends with the people who had their house shot up to convince their mentally ill son to come out.
I remember sewage running down both sides of Central Avenue in the 1970s. Mckinleyville was a mean-spirited little town with a lot of slumlords renting below-standard housing to students they openly despised.
At least he released the woman. This man clearly needs help. I hope he gets the help that he needs.
This is my old apartment my sister lives next door this is scary !!!!
Who is this guy? Do you know this guy?
Thank you again Kym. Anytime I’m wondering why the hell 50 cops have flown by on the 101 you always have the answer.
I was scared too, because I also live in an apartment!!!!
Drug and alcohol abuse…. lack of spiritual service….

Patriot in Willits are you volunteering or volunteering someone else ? Let the cops do their job, it will work out. They have negotiaters.
Spot on Mountain Man.
Mountain Man, clearly, nothing in my comment suggests that I am volunteering or volunteering someone else. What I am suggesting is that an overwhelming show of force by the police when they are dealing with someone who says they want to die by “suicide by cop”is a needless escalation of the situation.
Also, nothing in the reporting suggests that he is even armed. No weapon being brandished, and he only makes “gun noises”. I’m sure the McKinleyville police have competent negotiators., which is what the circumstances call for. The SWAT team and an armored vehicle isn’t.
I’m against the cops stopping people from committing suicide by killing them instead. But the moment you take a hostage, even if you let them go later, and say you have a gun you get SWAT, thinking that you don’t is idiotic. It’s cause and effect. That’s literally the reason why they have SWAT in the first place. If the police held back and the negotiations failed and someone, or a couple people got killed you’d be on here saying how they dropped the ball and should be held liable.
Don’t you have chores to do?
Leave him alone, everybody go home, guy’s going to get hungry at some point!
Call Mario and Ray
He’s throwing stuff out the window right now so they’re probably gonna have to kill him I mean good God if you don’t submit [edit] you’re dead.
This comment is based on what empirical evidence Redwood Stump? BTW, use your real name as I am so everyone has transparency.
No one gets ID’d to play on the internet, dude.
That would be ludicrous.
[edit]
Once again Redwood Stump you are running your mouth under the cloak of a handle on the internet. I am using my real name and am a retired L.E. You are a coward who likely hasn’t doesn’t anything that requires putting your life or financial well being on the line.
Well said Greg Musson!
“You are a coward who likely hasn’t doesn’t anything that requires putting your life or financial well being on the line.”
Pretty big assumption there. Not very kind. Doesn’t reflect well, if you were LE.
“Hero cop uses real name on internet”
🤣
How thrilling it is to be called names while we’re paying your pension. You “retirees” swamp us on every blog, spouting the same lines about your so-called bravery using your real names when any techie will tell you it’s pure idiocy. Never forget who signs your checks. You’re not making friends out here.
[edit]it’s about the piece of crap they are dealing with not taking another hostage or harming an innocent person!!
#backtheblue
I think they should play some nice music on their loudspeakers. Thats sure to get him outside.
Slayer or Beethoven?
Both. At the same time.
Maybe like this – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnrfqPoX4WU
I wouldn’t have hesitated for 10 whole minutes to click, but if I had known that it’s… “Raining Lobsters” by the B52’s and Slayer, I’d have had my bong loaded. That’s remarkably good.
That was HILARIOUS! Thanks for the link!😂🤣😂
Can’t they just insert tear gas and get him as he comes out?
I have been listening to Broadcastify, and it seems as though they are trying to talk him out, to surrender peacefully, or to just wait until he comes down from whatever it is that he may be on, or to go to sleep.
Just now, I heard on Broadcastify, that he is refusing to talk to the LEOs.
Not enough vitamin d?!
Damn, just start blasting some music already. Its my theory Kym Kemp. Tell the police now, to play music over the loudspeakers. Im close enough to hear what’s going on. It’s ridiculous. Im sure he’ll give up here pretty soon anyway. Later people’s
They are probably trying to calm him down and keep him calm, not rile him up.
Why are they still there? At this point he’s just being an obnoxious tweaker “threatening” to… what, dare a cop to shoot him? Just let him sober up or overdose in peace.
They’re there to collect overtime $$$
What if everyone just left and did nothing?
What society needs to realize is that life is about calculated risk. If I want to eat a gas station tuna sandwich I’m taking a calculated risk of crapped my pants. If I want to run a red light I take a calculated risk of getting hit by another car. If I want to put my hand on a hot stove, I’m taking a calculated risk that I’m probably going to get burned. So if you threaten a police officer, or attempt to harm or resist a police officer, you’re taking a calculated risk that force will be used upon you. Most people can’t handle the fact there’s consequences for your actions in the real world. You can’t always hide behind a keyboard and say whatever you want.
Dis true!
Actions have consequences. Lately it’s become the trend to only discuss the consequences and lambast the police; when in fact the correct thing to do is to discuss the actions that led up to the consequences. In all but maybe two notable exceptions, the consequencee was actively breaking the law and had a history of criminal conduct.
These naysayers are hanging their hat on shitbags. None of these recent cases have been Rosa Parks at the back of the bus.
test
Well citizen z, that’s WAY to far into the common sense category and the take responsibility for ones own actions varsity category to fit the victim narrative. Remember, we don’t blame the victim. That’s socially unacceptable.
When I’m hunting quarry who is aware of my presence and seeks shelter I walk away and observe the shelter from a far. Eventually the quarry comes out.
Use a dart gun.
If only Marlin Perkins were still alive and available.
He would shoot the tweaker with a tranquilizer dart and then have Jim Fowler pounce on him. Done.
Guns don’t kill people.
Gun noises kill people.
Its comments like yours that keep me reading! Too FUNNY!😂🤣😂
Is a shelter in place order the best option if you’re in the apartment next door through a thin wall for a hostage situation that they are responding with a SWAT team?
Do we really have to call it a bearcat? Or worse, the bearcat?
Great job HCSO! Situation resolved and everyone is safe!
Blasting death metal music will loosen him up, or, and here it comes, have Newsome call him up and talk him to death!
another mac special that likely wears Chicago Bulls apparel.
here is his Facebook quote “just ur avarage mac pimp daddy lol hit me up if u wana know”.
Great job to all. Take time, be prepared for the worse and hope and pray for the best outcome.
