Woman With an Out of County Warrant Recklessly Flees Law Enforcement, Blows Through Stop Sign, Is Arrested by Officer After Foot Pursuit, But Jail Lets Her Go, Says FoPD

About 9:30 last night, a Fortuna police officer made a traffic stop at 13th and Main in Fortuna. When he ran the solo occupant’s driver’s license, she was found to have a warrant out of Riverside County, said Sgt. Charles Ellebrecht of the Fortuna Police.

“When the officer informed her that she had a warrant,” Ellebrecht said, “She rolled the window up and the chase was on.”

The Sergeant said the woman drove through multiple streets recklessly ran a stop sign. “She eventually fled to P Street which deadends,” he said. “She footbailed, allowing her vehicle to roll into brush.”

The officer chased her on foot and eventually captured her within a few blocks.

Lacey Scott, age 35, was arrested for felony evading, failing to stop at a stop sign, resisting arrest, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and her warrant (“Some kind of connection to stealing cars,” Ellebrecht said.)

“We took her to Eureka [to the Humboldt County Jail],” Ellebrecht said. He said that in spite of the fact that Riverside County has already sent the paperwork saying they wanted her held on her warrant, the jail said that none of her charges met the requirements because of the COVID restrictions.

According to Ellebrecht, “The jail refused her…We released her with a court date to appear.”

How is she “stuck here in Humboldt”??? She can leave just is “supposed to” show up for the hearing etc as if she will!!! She’s already got outstanding warrants from other places, what makes you think this time will be different???

Apparently we need to defund the jail and all aspects of it. Taxpayers should refuse to allow THEIR money to be wasted on people refusing to do their jobs. Thank you Sargent for your hard work. I’m sorry the lame ass Sheriff, the Governor and all the other worthless people at the courthouse don’t support you. You, unlike any of them and welcome at my fire any time.

Now THAT, they consider a crime. They’ll definitely make room for you in jail for tax evasion. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Enough and local, you do realize that it was our wonderful governor that decided to release prisoners and not put other criminals in jail to protect them from the Corona. Screw that ! Give them a mask and lock the bastards up.

Here here! Let’s drain the swamp locally too. This is ridiculous and my tax money is really angry. What exactly is the CoVid qualifications that need to be met? Did she not have a mask? I’ll gladly donate a box to the jail if that means they’ll keep the law breakers behind bars, especially when a fellow agency in the state wanted her held. People should lose their jobs over this incident.

This is such shit! This happened right in front of my house! My kids love you play basketball at night thank god they weren’t last night or she would have hit them. Exactly what does it take for them to keep someone in jail? Releasing this lady to go steal another vehicle to get home and possibly kill someone next time! Ugh our system is broken! Thank you Fortuna Pd but what the hell Humboldt county!

The governor, legislature, prisoner advocates, and courts made the rules, decided on funding, made priorities. For locals just as for the State.

none of those agencies decided to build a jail on contaminated ground from a former dry cleaners. what willie is trying to say is that our jail capacity issue is a local problem, they haven’t been able to expand it due to the contamination. the parking lot is also contaminated. I think Billy is doing the best he can under the current and preexisting circumstances.

We vote for Judges too, although law abiding citizens usually don’t have a clue who they are and no effort is made to inform us.

Meanwhile Humboldt is acquiring a nice long list of roaming criminals.

There is a election coming are you going to give the NUKE codes to this person?

“It’s getting harder and harder to understand what Joe Biden is trying to say at any given moment, especially when he’s not reading a teleprompter. But that’s the state of the Democratic Party and it’s causing fits in mainstream media as they give their college try at keeping his declining cognitive skills a secret to the American people.”

It may be getting close to the time for those who believe in the 2nd Amendment to actually organize a well armed militia. I’m tired of local and state government corruption defending criminals and making law abiding citizens out to be the criminals. The “leadership” of the State and this County all took an oath to uphold the laws of the State and Country. So far, I can’t find a single one who has kept that oath. They instead trample them and do whatever they want. They are all traitors.

Hey no surprise here in a blue state. The only solution is a Harris administration(sarcasm). I see project RoomKey, a homeless housing initiative, has picked up a lot of steam in Ca lately. Liberals don’t give two #%*#%’s about homeless Americans. Sure can tell it’s election season.

C’mon people, her car may be disabled from the crazy driving & here she is without wheels. She could steal your car or my car so she can get out of this mean old County of Humboldt. It just happened to me – truck blew up in Weed & psycho nut with all our info landed in Medford. He was released of course. The bill was all mine.

This just blows my mind! Get a mask instead of a “get out of jail free” card. This is no game of Monopoly. Or is it?

Never commented before but the question I pose is if covid is issue with accepting at risk prisoners why has probation dept been hauling dozens of ppl off street many with hi risk potential but minor criminal offenses is this job security or crime? Do they get released with court date or are they in jail?

the HACHR thing was purely political. soon the EPD will be forced to hire an out of the area Chief with a BA or BS just to hold the insurance, just like in the past. its just a matter of when. locals don’t do well in power due to the many conflict of interest they are inherently tied to.

Haven you read my mind. This person should of had an ankle tracker installed and no further debate. Public safety is first and foremost for all of us in Humboldt County. Sheriff Honsel screwed up again and how long do we allow Newsom and Frankostein (the DHHS director) to endanger our lives??

When I read a story like this the first thing I think is this woman might be the victim of the systemic oppression and was so fed up she snapped and just refused to comply with police authority. In This era of policing for profit it’s not uncommon to see that. Has anyone considered that this woman could be suffering an emotional breakdown, escaping an abusive partner or situation or something? It also doesn’t take a lot to get a warrant, you get them for not paying for seatbelt tickets (which can cost $1k). You get warrants for taking an abusive partners car to leave them too. I think this is a perfect case for defunding police. They are clearly not solving any issues but instead making it much worse and across the board People are fed up.

Get real Guest!! Enough of the oppressed B.S. Even if this gal was a victim of DV and had a warrant for a $1000 unpaid seatbelt ticket, She still needs to face the music and deal with the warrant. She does not need to be driving around like a drunk or drugged out Jackass in a town over 500 miles from where the warrant is. I myself am a survivor of DV. I guarantee if the cop pulled me over and said I had a warrant for a flipping unpaid seatbelt ticket I would be like that sucks, how do I deal with it? Nah this girl is not facing a warrant for something trivial. Also I have never heard of a county, state, or country asking for a suspect to kept on a traffic warrant. They don’t want to pay for that or pay to extradite her. This whole let people go because of the RONA is getting ridiculous to say the least!

Did I miss something? What did the police do that was so wrong? Couple comments suggest defunding police / losing respect etc. but sounded like FoPD did the best they could do & the ball was dropped after the arrest at the jail because she didn’t meet criteria? What’s the criteria to be jailed for this offense, kill your kids or mine?
Governor should be recalled. He & his Covid Policy – makes no sense at all!

Nice press release FoPD. Put the jail on front street. They love this Covid shit. It gives them an excuse to be lazy. Totally ridiculous. They’ll accept the most low level “drunk in public” arrests or a murder, and nothing in between. Illogical, stupid, and dangerous.

This is why cops are getting tired of doing their job and refuse to arrest anyone for lower and midlevel crime. These assholes are released by the jail before the officer completes their paperwork. It’s a waste of resources for them to investigate half the crimes out there as well. They spend dozens or more man hours tracking someone down, putting a case together, find and arrest them, and then the fn jail let’s them right back out. Its ridiculous.
