Press release from Heidi Benzonelli campaign:

Eureka resident, Heidi Benzonelli, has officially announced her candidacy for the Humboldt Community Services District Board of Directors. Benzonelli said she stands for “Prosperity, People and the Planet.”

Benzonelli has lived in the Humboldt Community Services District for 37 years. She has had several careers – spanning from school lunch lady to special projects manager for the Manila Community Services District – but most notable has been her work as an organizer and board president for the Westside Community Improvement Association – a group of neighbors who purchased and transformed the Jefferson School in Eureka into the Jefferson Community Center and Park.

“I believe whole heartedly that citizens must engage in the public process for plans and progress to reflect the needs and desires of our community,” Benzonelli said. “I am uniquely qualified for this position because I am not only an experienced network builder, but I also have an Environmental Resources Engineering degree and a Masters of Business Administration – both earned from Humboldt State University while establishing my professional credibility.”

With the upcoming development of the McKay Tract, Benzonelli believes it is important that there is a board who is paying attention to the impact that new development will have on the ratepayers, the forest, the district maintenance staff and the existing infrastructure. “If elected, I will seek out opportunities to diversify the districts revenue streams, relieve the burden from the ratepayers, protect the forest, accentuate plans for a Cutten Community Forest and still move development of beautiful, desirable and appropriate housing forward.

“This is a delicate balancing act that takes sound financial decision-making, balanced with social responsibility and environmental stewardship. All of these should be driven by the community, and this takes WORK. I am no stranger to hard work and this is my neighborhood,” Benzonelli added. “To my neighbors and constituents of the district, I hope you will support my candidacy.”

The candidate is running a low-to-no budget campaign. “I believe that large contributions imply favors later, and that is where politics stops representing the people, which Is why I’m running a cheap-to-free campaign. So please like, comment and share my page to help me get the word out, and please – VOTE!”

Curbside, contact-free delivery of hand-dyed shirts and signs are available for district voters, if desired, Benzonelli added. Just call 707-498-5764 or email [email protected].

I was under the impression she was a Eureka resident? Where does she reside to make her eligible to run for HCSD?
