Red Salmon Fire Grows About 5,500 Acres
“[F]ire spread was primarily in the southwest,” according to a press release from the Red Salmon Complex Fire Information Office.
The fire was relatively quiet last night. But structures are still threatened.
Evacuation Orders are in effect for Mill Ranch and Denny.
Basic Information:
The Plan:
“The 10N02 Road will serve as a primary line for containing the fire east of the Hoopa Valley Reservation,” the fire press release noted. “Mastication equipment will be clearing fuels around Horse Trail Ridge in anticipation of future firing operations.”
The Weather:
Hot and dry weather will continue through today and tomorrow. Humidity will continue to be low. Dry fuels will contribute to the spread of the fire.
The Smoke:
Smoke from the Red Salmon Complex and the Slater Fire north of that as well as other fires will make air quality push towards the Very Unhealthy.
The Roads:
Hwy 96 is closed from 9.6 mi west of Happy Camp to 4.9 mi west of Scott River Rd but here is the other latest information: Information on Highways Closed Due to Fires

Really good news if it materializes. Rain or showers are in the forecast for both Slater and Red Salmon starting monday thru wednesday. A forecast that far out could easily change and often does, but all forecasting models agree that some precipitation is likely. Can anyone say hallelujah.
Click on the following link for animated smoke flow of the west coast fires. It looks like the Oregon Smoke is going out to sea and coming back over us. That okay with me, I can put up with just smoke knowing other places are on fire.

Keep your fingers crossed. Ventusky forecast for next week. Followed by ‘normal’ NW onshore flow.
