How many customers are in the likely affected areas? Seems like WAY more than 4200. What percentage of customers will be shut off? 50%, 100%?
This seems odd to me.

The PG&E website has a lookup tool; you can enter your address (or whoever’s) and it will tell you if it will be affected.

The information for my address was updated at 4:52 am this morning. It says it updates once every 24 hours. It would be helpful for it to be updated any time there is a change and to be notified via text.

What kind of “emergency” website updates just once every 24 hours?

Stupid PGE!

This makes no sense to me.

Towns on the list include Gville and Myers Flat.

Towns not on the list include Redway, Phillipsville, Miranda, Weott, and Redcrest.

If they cut power to both Gville and Myers Flat, is there any way that the areas in between don’t get cut too?

Thanks Kym. That explanation makes sense. Hope everyone gets to keep their power. No one needs more stress in these difficult times.

Amusing that, though I live in Myers Flat, my location is often given as Miranda. Googly I guess

12: 00 AM is noon… I hope PG@E knows that.

Some of us refer to 12:00 as Noon or Midnight to avoid any confusion.

Since when?
12pm=noon
12am=midnight

AM stands for ante meridian: “before noon” in Latin. PM is post meridian. During daylight savings time, 12:00 in the daytime occurs before noon, the time when the sun is highest, which is at 1:00. And during standard time in the winter, 12 is neither before noon or after noon; it IS noon.
So I’m with Ernie: never use AM or PM to clarify 12:00.

Let’s see if we can explain this using military time…
00:00 hours is the start of a new day (at midnight). 00:01 hours would be one minute after midnight. Just like 12:00am is the start of a new day and 12:01am would be one minute after midnight.

And if you don’t like my explanation then Google it.

Yes, Ernie, that’s old school. Used to be that noon was referred to as 12 a.m. (being the last minute of the morning) and midnight 12 p.m.– it was easy to remember, as evening hours are all p.m., so 12 p.m.= 12 in the evening= midnight.

However, the technology changed. First it was those clocks with the flipping-over black-and-white block numbers, then the squarish lit-up digital numbers. Both of these were so different from the old traditional clock face with the hands that people began thinking the way the gadgets presented things: instead of 20 ’til one, they’ll say it’s 12:40.

Now since (as NoBody says) 12:00 a.m. is one minute before 12:01 a.m, which is indisputably one minute into the small hours of the morning and just after midnight, people have gotten used to saying that everything 12:00 through 12:01 to 12:59 all get the a.m. designation. So nowadays people do use 12 a.m. to mean midnight–easier on their digitized brains to connect that to the hour following it.

But Ernie, you’re quite right that for many decades of our lives, 12 a.m. meant “12 at the end of the morning,” or noon, and 12 p.m., post-meridian, meant “12 at the end of the evening,” or midnight.

We are missing communities as well. We have the power plant that is supposed to work for many areas . I wish that PG&E would do a better job of transmitting the proper information. Go to the PG&E website

So they’re saying power will be out for 43 hours? What ever happened to us being an island now with the Humboldt Bay Power plant being online?

Sorry to hear about your food PG&E ‘owes’ you.

I am sure that after a few folks sift through the rubble and ashes of their LIVES, they’ll get back to feeling bad and angry about that. O.K.?

If your chest freezer is full, and you don’t open it, one day shouldn’t cause you to lose food. You might want to fill in any empty spaces with bottles of water now, though – they’ll freeze and help keep things cold.

Everyone should know 12:00 am is midnight. If at one point in time it was different, that would of been like a half a century or more ago because I am almost 50. I have known it to be 12 am midnight. We always used the term, high noon as well.

Of course, this all assumes that the islanding plan works. This is the first real-world test of trying to power most of humboldt from the king salmon plant, as far as I know. At least, the last test I remember that they publicized was only running a small area. So…. you might want to make sure you have gas in your car tonight anyway.

Pointless map here…
Not labeled, no ROADS.
Went to PG&E site and waited an eternity for the map there to load. Lots of little pink triangles pointing at small localized blackouts, but nothing that covered a wide area… But it did have roads and things on it. BUT those little pink triangles don’t indicate how much of an area is cut off or how many people are going to lose it.
However, it is seven hours past midnight and I assume the threat is still hanging over us even if I have power and internet to whine about PG&E taking forever to oad.
At least I’m not living in Willits….
The maps for Willits are really frustrating….

If you zoom in, the map gives road names. But if you put in an address, it so tell you. I doubt as if a bulletin can do that.
