Unfortunately the driver was more than likely going too fast into the turn; not slowing down soon enough. That driver in particular has hauled logs on many occasions. He’s a seasoned, experienced driver. Although excessive speed and not slowing down soon enough were probably the main factors, anything could have happened. Something could have failed on the truck or trailer to cause that. It can happen to any of those drivers at any given time. It’s not always human error. Everyone seems to hate the semi drivers. Some may not follow the rules of the road, but just about everything humans need/ want nowadays is delivered from one of those semis. This was a very unfortunate thing that happened, but thank a driver sometime.

They put prizes in Chex Mix? Did I miss the joke? See, I’m depressed at the rapid Trumpian collapse of our nation. the popping sound you hear is the last of the remaining bubbles I had about the core values and goals of The United States of America; the last best hope of my people and the world. Thank you for absolutely nothing, Republicans.

True, but when your team wins off of own-goal plays by the other team, don’t for a minute think that means your team is good.

Wallace’s “law and order” campaign didn’t end well for Wallace. It did create a lot a chaos that made the news but people don’t like chaos.

The weak response to the 1965 – 68 riots didn’t work out so hot for the Democrats either, in 1968 or 1972. Wallace attracted disaffected Democrats who would otherwise have voted for Nixon, and did vote for Nixon in 72. Today’s Democrats are idiots for not absorbing that lesson. In fact, when someone recently published a study showing how the race riots of the late 1960s drove politics to the right, it got buried by the media.

32 people killed in riots since the original George Floyd protests, mostly by mob violence. The Kenosha kid was defending himself from assailants. There is so much in the record of Democrats and their media supporters referring to the riots as “protests” and downplaying the horrific violence of them that it will be very difficult for them to disown that narrative. They made a cynical political calculation that pandering to the mob would solidify their base support and it backfired badly.

You saying class 1 just shows how far out of the loop you really are, anybody can screw up, or have a mechanical problem, shit happens. Glad no one was hurt.

Living on and driving 299 every day I see logging trucks, chip trucks driving like they were small race cars; I always wonder why the CHP isn’t seeing what I am seeing. Met a Bettendorf chip truck the other day on the west side of Berry Summit driving down the center line; thankfully I had room to get over. Sick of it.

The only way you can see how fast you can go is to go SO FAST that you dump the load and risk your life and the lives of anyone else on the road. Now you know how fast you can drive! Wow, that is SO COOL.

See, I’m depressed . . . . .oh, I already said that.

Just this afternoon I followed a loaded lumber truck (I stayed well back) maintaining about 65 mph in the #1 lane though there were vehicles behind it waiting to pass and 2 cars in the #2 lane afraid to pass because he might decide to move to the right.
Where is CHP?

They put stakes on flatbeds now and call them Turkey racks. They are not as stable as log trucks.

Thanks for the explanation. Maybe that’s a bad move. Not the best fit for hauling down the hill from Berry Summit into Willow Creek. No doubt it’s to lower hauling costs, which are a big drag on the interior Coast Range timber industry, but the price is using trucks that are more cumbersome on an already hazardous road.

This drive has drove for 40+ years. The load shifted. It was no ones fault. Things happen. He is not hurt. All you trolls who have no idea about trucking or how things work in the trucking world need to keep their mouth shut!

the center of gravity is higher on flatbeds compared to log trucks for this type of load.

The decision to haul large loads of logs down steep winding grades on flatbed trucks has the scent of an MBA move. Standard log trucks are designed the way they are for a reason.

Actually, more “scent” of an owner/operator trying to keep their truck moving and earning so he or she can make the payments and keep their business afloat. Not easy these days!

You’re right. It’s got a sleeper cab. Definitely not someone who usually hauls logs! Seems someone on the contracting end could have vetted the operator more carefully. Might have been swayed by an extra-low contract bid.

I know A LOT about the trucking industry, and a load shifting is the fault of the driver, who is responsible for making sure the trailer is loaded in a stable and safe manner and the vehicle is operated in such a way that any potential unstable load will not shift. And anyone with any knowledge knows that logs on a flatbed trailer held in with stakes and straps are not stable, especially when compared to a log trailer with bunks and cables securing the load.

Well, this is why we can’t have nice things…

Whatever the trucker’s excuse is today:

I don’t drive safely because I’m old,

I am old because I drive safely!
