Hot, Hot, Hot

Hot letters with sun

Today might be a good day to visit the beach because while coastal temperatures will be in the 60’s to 70’s, inland temperatures will skyrocket.

Here’s a sampling of what highs to expect today according to Weather.gov:

  • Fort Bragg 64°F
  • Crescent City 71°F
  • Shelter Cove 77°F
  • Arcata 79 °F
  • Ruth Lake 94°F
  • Gasquet 99°F
  • Garbervillle 102°F
  • Hoopa 106°F
  • Ukiah 106°F
  • Weaverville 107°F

Much of Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties will have a Heat Advisory from noon today until 7 p.m. on Saturday. Weather.gov describes this as, “Dangerously hot afternoon conditions with maximum temperatures between 100 and 110 degrees…with relief from overnight temperatures in the upper 50s to mid 60s.” But during the same time period most of Mendocino County will have an Excessive Heat Warning which means the low temperatures won’t get below the mid 60’s to low 70’s.

The National Weather Service offers a more detailed graphic to show where some communities will differ from the general information above.

Please stay hydrated and check that elders and children are staying hydrated also.

Watch for Heat Exhaustion or Heat Stroke in yourself and those around you. The National Weather Weather Service explains:

During hot and humid weather, your body’s ability to cool itself is challenged. When your body heats too rapidly to cool itself properly, or when too much fluid or salt is lost through dehydration or sweating, you may experience a heat-related illness. Learn the symptoms of excessive heat exposure and the appropriate responses. weather.gov/safety/heat-illness
