In a meeting this evening, Ferndale Unified School District trustees voted four to one to hold in-person classes at both the elementary and the high school.

According to the Ferndale Enterprise, “Parent and staff surveys overwhelming supported [the in-person] option.”

In-person learning is slated to start Monday, August 31.

Who/what will keep em safe from the virus killing and harming so many millions around the world… oh was that stat I heard today… Oh yes, 20million world wide. That makes the U.S. one quarter of that 20 million, and that we as a nation have gone from 4 million cases to 5 million cases in two weeks… Well I hope the students and teachers will stay safe and not end up like the Georgia schools that had a major outbreak of the covid virus infecting teachers and students just after opening their doors… No sarcasm intended.

They should just have it outside and call it a protest, covid can not infect protestors under that one condition. Fact. According to the media. Maybe throw a brick at a window once in a while to scare the virus off.

So glad they went with this option! Everybody who thinks distant learning is the best option, please go read what is happening to the 2 million special education students like mine.
The UN secretary of education said on NPR the other day “a catastrophe for a entire generation”.

Did the UN Secretary note a difference in how various countries have handled the response? Didn’t South Korea and the USA report their first cases on about the same day?

Just because you think in person is better doesn’t mean it’s better for everyone. I have a son going into Kindergarten and a 2 year old at home and will have a newborn in mid September. A newborn that will have NO defense if they contract anything especially Covid. . So no, in person is not better, at least not for everyone. My son also suffers from social autism. He has trouble connecting with peers when he’s around them all the time as it is. This isn’t a yes or no or a right or wrong answer. It’s individual based on every family and their specific situation.

Why don’t you homeschool if in person learning is not right for you?

Ferndale’s fine! There’s no agricultural workers! There’s no old people to speak of! Not much of a tourism economy. There’s been a couple movies filmed there! What was that one? with Morgan Freeman, and Dustin Hoffman? I’ve never died from this before! How could this possibly go bad?
The children yearn for the freedom to go set in class rooms for the daylight hours. To ensure the kids are enjoying their freedom PD already has protocols for truancy patrols, But maybe should initiate checkpoints.

Well, it won’t infect US!

It is unbelievable that we have gone from shutdown to “chicken-pox-party” in just 5 months!

“Well, we want those kids to get EDUCATED! Too bad if some die!”

The concept of “opening the schools” is absolutely insane, at this time.

“Overwhelming the hospitals” used to be a concern.

Better warm up those refrigerator trucks, and dig some mass graves, because the mortuaries, funeral homes, and morgues are about to be “overwhelmed…”

You might be in a remote location, but pretending the epidemic can’t kill you is an ineffective way to treat the disease…

Even if school is not in session, it’s nice to know you are keeping the drama club fully operational

Well, Mr Stars, you are only a few tanks of gas from Sturgis… Drive out there and join in the fun…

If you want to test your ability to survive C-19, I sure can’t stop you, but the government should not be testing the mortality rate according to the school’s cash-flow.

Gamble with your own children, your own family, your own community. I’ll stay here in my bubble until there is an effective treatment and/or a fully tested and effective vaccine. And, you should expect hospital staff to start bugging out…

At one point the shutdown was about “flattening the curve”. Done. What’s the goal now? Corona isn’t gonna just disappear. A vaccine is, in no way, a sure thing.

Cases are going up but case fatality is going down. This is good.

Life moves on whether we hide in our homes or not.

They voted to spread the virus period. It will not be long and all the open schools will be breeding grounds for the virus. Not a very good idea as far as I am concerned!!

Like I told my hubby the other day, all the other scared people should just stay sheltered at home until there’s a proven vaccine. Instcart and DoorDash bring everything you need for a modest fee. I’ve even learned to cut hubby’s hair off youtube!

Fear is why we survive while the others will pass away!

I don’t see why the kids have been kept from joining in for so long. Those lifelong effects are wasted on those of us who have been through half of ours already. Let the younger generation show, loud and proud that we can make being #1 a family affair! Go kids!

But seriously. WTF is with the whole stabbing in the dark (several times) approach? Why can’t we model our actions after one of the dozens or more countries who have successfully completed a “shutdown/flatten the curve” period?
