Press release from the Trinity River Area CHP:

On August 10, 2020, at approximately 0905 hours, a 15 year-old female out of Modoc, CA, was driving a white 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pickup, eastbound on SR-299, just west of the Indian Creek Lodge, overtaking multiple vehicles in the westbound lane at an undetermined high rate of speed. Mr. Jimmy Easley of Groveton, Texas was driving a white 2015 Chevrolet 3500 pickup westbound on SR-299, in the westbound lane, approaching the vehicle driven by the female juvenile. The juvenile driver was overtaking a white 2015 3 axle semi-truck when she collided head-on with Mr. Easley in the westbound lane. The force of the collision caused the juvenile’s pickup to become airborne and collide with the left rear side of the semi-truck’s trailer. Both Chevrolet pickups came to rest blocking the W/B lane of SR-299. The driver of the semi-truck pulled to the right shoulder and was uninjured. The juvenile female sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Mr. Easley was treated for minor injuries and released from the scene.

SR-299 was closed for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes as a result of the collision.

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision. The CHP is continuing to investigate. If anyone has further information regarding this collision, please contact the California Highway Patrol (530) 623-3832.

Terribly tragic. I’m so sorry for everyone involved.

What the heck was a 15 year old doing driving solo and aggressively ?

What?

Isn’t this like a .0000001% of California residents….

No need for traffic laws, let’s just live by the Constitution already.

Double yellow lines are tyrannical. CS Lewis agrees.

This is really concerning. Why was a 15 year old driving alone and why was she being so reckless? I am wondering if she took the truck from family without permission and was in a hurry to get from one place to another. I guess it doesn’t matter about that, but a life is now lost and a family is mourning their loss.

We were stuck in the resulting traffic from this collision this morning. It was obviously a tragic accident. Shame for someone so young to pass away, and condolences indeed. So glad she didn’t kill anyone else. Please drive safe everyone, we are all in this together!

This could have been so much worse. Sad for the girl, but what she was doing was an outrage.

Poor decisions resulting in her own demise

Glad she didn’t take anyone else with her

Sadness not an emotion I possess for these situations… more like relief

You think watching your father die at 8 years old while caring for your infant baby brother… then watching your mother slowly loose her mind does not deserve some sympathy… I don’t know what does. There is always so much more to a person then what you see and read. Please remember this in the future

Random chance. The guy she ran into could have been killed and she could have survived.

She was an innocent little girl who had a very tragic life and a tragic ending 💜 You have no idea about her backstory… it’s heartbreaking

That was my cousin that died. Maybe before you chime in about someone you don’t know you should consider the fact that she might not have had the same upbringing and opportunities that you had. I’m not going to get into her family life here but I will say that her father, who was undoubtedly one of the most responsible people in her life died from cancer when she was very young. She was a good person and it’s terrible that this happened to her. If you don’t have anything positive to say, please keep it to yourself.

I’m sorry for your lost…thank you for speaking up I wish people would think before they start typing. Like wait maybe a family member might read my comment… I’m pretty sure they were all taught to think before you speak! Again praying that your family may have peace! RIP young lady. ☹️

I am her Auntie Jackie. I was trying to get custody of her before all this happened. I am sorry for your loss and I am here if you want someone to talk to 💜
We know she’s at peace with God now and finally can rest and be her self, as a child, the way it was intended originally for her. She’s probably drawing and playing with cats right now 💜💜💜

I had a strong pull to go and sit with her. We were right behind the accident my daughter said all she could see was her long hair.. I just wanted to go and sit with her. She has been in my thoughts. My prayers will be with her family during this hard time.

Absolutely right guys and gals of trinity county. Exactly right Dan! You the man. My condolences to you and all family, friends and loved ones. By saying things like the post that said. …oh yeah truth denials, that’s not what there doing that’s who they are, they are hating the people and all that comes with it, instead of hating the situation. It goes like this. .. for instance.. please recycle and help the earth, the planet! that to is truth denialing. So the people that don’t recycle is the reason why our planet is all messed up? We are not bad people, we just do bad things sometimes.

She was a brave, talented, and sensitive girl. It is tragic that this world didn’t get to see her reach adulthood. My condolences to her family members who didn’t bring her pain. To those who did, may it haunt your dreams.

I ran across this site due to the fact I was trying to get info on an accident today that I just drove by on 299. When I saw fifteen year old driver that showed up in the news headlines, I had to read it, as I have 16 grandkids and five of my own. Just reading these comments gave me intense chills from head to toe. That little girl had a whole life ahead of her. I’m so sorry to hear of this. May god be with her and hers. People that are so quick to judge , I hope will learn a lesson by this mishap. Comments truly do tell a lot about a person.

Tragic life or not, she shouldn’t have been driving at all. Tragedy doesn’t give anyone the right to put others in harm’s way. Had my family not turned around to throw a trashbag away, we could very well have been involved in this accident and I’ll be damned if anyone is going to tell me that her tragic life was more important than possibly causing a tragedy in mine (myself or my 10 year old son!).

Sorry she died, but no excuses.
