Last night fires broke out along Tish Tang Road near Hoopa. The flames quickly grew and by last night the Jones Point Fire (as the seperate spots were collectively known) was reported to be about 100 acres with 0% containment.

This morning, the Northern California Geographic Coordination Center reports that the fire grew overnight to 130 acres. The fire is burning up slope in brush and timber in rugged terrain and is 5% contained, according to the Coordination Center.

“Crews made good progress on the North flank of the fire last night,” the Center reports. “Cultural resources and high value timberland are threatened.”

Air quality up here along the trinity river is really bad, can’t see the ridge across the river. You can taste it.

https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/ and https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/ show the fire on their maps but provide no information. You have to drill down on Hoopa and as you continue to drill down you can see the outline of the fire, shown in red on Cal Fire’s site and grey on InciWeb.

Your COVID 19 comment has nothing to do with this fire. Your sarcasm is unnecessary and doesn’t belong in this post. Why insult poor victims of COPD? We are well aware of the danger fire smoke (visible) and COVID infected people not wearing masks (a much bigger threat) not visible! Check Humboldt’s latest COVID stats. We’re going the wrong direction.
