Ya, its an 80 x 40 mile county. Get over your egotistical localist BS. I’ve met people that lived here 50+ years and never visited the cove. Not everyone has been where you have and heard what you’ve heard, get the f over yourself.

It’s a somewhat secret local spot located off of fickle hill rd with a really cool drop off point and birds eye view of Humboldt County and the surround forests and vistas. If you don’t know where to park and walk up to it you have most likely driven right past it on fickle hill rd and not even known it was there. The drop off is steep, definitely not the safest place for an intoxicated person. Hoping they are ok and wishing for a speedy recovery 🙏🏼

8.5 miles up fickle outside of Arcata. One of the nicest lookouts in the area. I used to live right there, that is a HUGE fall! I hope they are ok!

I hope the best for the person who fell.
People flocking to “Top of the World” (aka “The Rock” and “Edge of the World”) has been a safety concern for decades, especially to those of us who live on Fickle Hill and drive the road daily. Beyond the first 3 miles, the road has very narrow stretches and steep, tight curves. Intoxicated drivers, people unfamiliar with the road with no sense of how narrow it is and driving in the middle, speeders, etc. are problematic. It is particularly scary when new HSU students arrive in August and it becomes their newly discovered party spot. Any upper Fickle Hill resident, CHP or tow truck driver knows the traffic accidents associated with people driving to or from this spot. Please folks, be careful and aware.

This “view” has lots of broken glass on the rock- don’t bring animals or children or even try to sit down. Vehicles always get broken into while parked, windows smashed. I encourage everybody to stay safe and stay away! Oh and the view isn’t that great- you can do better by staying home and watching TV…

Sadly not the first time a drunk guy fell off a high point, usually holding their man-parts, and in the middle of a whizz when they follow the stream on down to the rocks. Last guy I remember didn’t survive the fall.
By the way, I’ve lived here for 72 years and didn’t know about this place either. Maybe karma got him before he could fly down the road, driving drunk and kill or injure someone else.

If you are feeling suicidal, please seek help!

Life itself is vexing enough, without people getting drunk and doing stuff like this!
