Humboldt County date night during the pandemic

In the latest episode of Humboldt Last Week

Put on your romance pants and let’s talk about date night in Humboldt County in the COVID age. I was making a list of some good potential date ideas here – beyond the typical stuff – where social distancing is possible for both couples living together, or couples from different households meeting for the first time (while following health guidelines).

  • Heading to a local trail or botanical garden, having a meal in the car, and then taking a hike or a walk together
  • Photographing local landmarks
  • Golf or mini-golf
  • Frisbee or disc golf
  • A drive to a beautiful place
  • Try new beverages or foods by creating your own tasting party at home
  • A drive checking out murals and other street art
  • Check out a museum
  • A bike ride, scootering, skating, etc.
  • Cooking something special together
  • Your own karaoke night
  • Game night
  • Reading a book out loud to each other
  • A picnic at the river or the beach

Do you have any more fun ideas?

Couples from different households cannot date under the guidelines.

Although the term “romance pants” is certainly at least strange, it is good to see positive thoughts of alternative activities being offered.

Bird watching at the marsh or rivers is a good one.

“A drive to a beautiful place”…

This. So many options. I took my Oregon boyfriend out Wildcat Road to the Cape and then onto Petrolia and the Mattole River. He loved it. We talked the whole time and it was very nice.

Up to Kneeland and south on to Bridgeville is probably my favorite drive in the county.

So many options.

And where did you take your California boyfriend? And the Nevada one? 😉

LOL….well I eventually married the Oregon boyfriend.

He wasn’t from around these parts and he had only seen the “lost coast” from the ocean (he is a fisherman). He got to see the Domingo Creek anchorage, aka the notorious blowhole….from the landside.

Though my California boyfriends were local boys…we all went to the same places anyway. 🙂

Nevada? I don’t even remember meeting anyone from Nevada back then…the early 70s.

Reading a book out loud to each other? That sounds like a great way to get a book thrown at me.

Dont forget games! Uno, dominos, board games…

Avenue of the Giants and a big fat joint! 👌 stop at Myers and get your feet wet.

Picnic at a River Access on the Trinity or Mad.

And my favorite of all time for dates…shooting!! Give her a full magazine and see what kinda woman ya got! 🤘🤘🤘

The last comment was so Humboldt. A big fat joint. I used to live in Eureka and nothing changes. My 8th grade daughter was distance learning at Sequoia park when her math teacher took a second look with a young man walked in her back round smoking a joint. Lol …seriously Humboldt has some of the most beautiful drives. It’s one of a kind special. Fern Canyon was one of my childhood drives with my grandma.
