County Officials Awaiting More Information After Restrictions Announced by State

novel coronavirus Covid-19 HumboldtPress release from the Joint Information Center:

Governor Gavin Newsom today announced both statewide and county-specific actions to curb the spread of COVID-19 as cases continue to rise across the state. The Humboldt County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal and Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich are aware but have not yet seen the written guidance on these changes.

“The governor made clear the state’s concerns about the rapid increase in COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations and ICU admissions in California,” Dr. Frankovich said. “Our understanding is that there will be a statewide order to close bars and to move some sectors such as dining, family entertainment centers, office spaces for non-critical services, museums and zoos and cardrooms to outdoor operations only.”

The intent, the doctor said, is to focus on strategies that reduce mixing of people outside their household in spaces where it is more challenging to ensure safety precautions are in place and to move those activities outdoors where possible. “The state is clearly stepping back but not returning to full shelter-in-place restrictions,” she said.

Sheriff Honsal said, “In light of the governor’s recent announcement regarding business sector closures and the current COVID-19 situation in California, I believe it is prudent to wait for further written directive from the governor prior to making any sweeping decisions that will impact our business community. In a small community like ours, one business closure can have a ripple effect felt throughout the county. I’ve heard and seen the impacts that COVID-19 and the initial closures had on our local business owners and their families, and I do not take the decision to close sectors of our local economy lightly.”

The EOC will provide additional information Tuesday.

If only Newsom was as good at killing Covid as he is at killing the economy.

Yes its the biggest sham of the whole enchillada. All the big stores (box stores) and corporate giants are plowing along. Taking business that would have gone to the small businesses of america. This has all the characters of a large money grab by large corporate bastards. While I believe the virus exists and needs to be tamed, Im not one bit surprised at how corporate america and the wealthy are gonna profit off the health scare they have brewed up. The lower wage eraners are being killed…….well they might be if the 800 bucks a week expires on July 31 as its set to do.

If only Trump had a plan and actually cared about people dying.
Instead he spends his time attacking the CDC, health experts, Fauchi, WHO, Obama, the media and anyone that points out his dereliction and making up stupid juvenile names to call Covid for his dumb base.
The economy, the argument for opening up everything, yeah, we see what happened with that. Look at Florida, what a mess….DeSantis, Trump bootlicker, yeah, he sure had a successful opening up .

California is suffering a similar death rate and seeing how Newsom acted proactively what’s your excuse Trump trump trump? Liberals when trump tries to tell their state what to do “YOU ARENT IN CHARGE OF US!!!” Liberals when something goes wrong In their state that trump isn’t in charge of “ITS TRUMPS FAULT!!!” Pick one or the other

Different dynamics at work. Florida, Texas, and Arizona Republican governors followed the Trump lead that the severity of the virus was less important than keeping the economy rolling along so Trump would be are-elected. They resisted protections for their populations right out of the gate. If Florida was a country, it would take number four position for cases in the WORLD! California and Oregon are balancing opening with cases and dialing back preemptively.

So New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, etc all have mysterious hidden Republican governors because those States lead in per capita deaths? https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109011/coronavirus-covid19-death-rates-us-by-state/

I’m not saying that politics are the only thing fueling the coronavirus but they are the only thing fueling the sensationalism. Texas is in crisis! New York’s death rate is ten times higher. That most likely will change as the virus runs it course but we are not arguing over effective methods, we are arguing over how one party’s methods are better than the other party’s methods while ignoring everything else.

There should have never been such radical closings at all. What there should have been is a realistic limitation on large gatherings, mass transportation, travel and other strategic chosen limitations, recognizing that disease kills but there is no sense in aggressive measures not able to be maintained throughout the disease cycle as sooner or later, it can’t be sustained. And when needs force opening, the cycle just starts all over again. If Americans were not so self destructive in their self righteous attacking of other Americans, there could have been a constructive cooperation. Too bad that so many people see dumping hate on each other as a better choice.

AND what does any if this have to do with this attempt by Newsom to. Lie about the origins of this uptick. It’s 100% protesters whether they are BLM or peaceful protests and has nothing to do with restaurants, gyms, or museums

Christ they just announced that Schools in AZ will go ahead with the Aug 17 opening. Another boot licker down there making decisions without scientific guidance. Hope the teachers revolt.

Keep your eye on the ball this election will be one of the shadiest events in our life time.

By the time it’s all said and done, our State will loose businesses, families and jobs, thanks to our Governor and other leaders who believe one size fits all.

That is not all that is involved.

“In one of its very recent briefings, Oxfam International, a non-governmental organization with focus on depicting growing inequality in the world, concludes that more people will soon start dying because of hunger linked to Covid-19 than from the disease itself. ” https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/blogs/mind-the-gap/sweden-deserves-praise-for-its-soft-lockdown-strategy/

No new cases today in Humboldt. How come zero? Shouldn’t we be doulbing every 5 days? What happened to that theory? Something doesn’t add up , or maybe it does .

🕯🌳It takes 5 to 10 days to get a test back,it could take up to a week to schedule an appointment to take a test. So how far back was that person infected? How many people did they come in contact with during that time? Contact tracing takes time and the truth from the people being questioned. 🖖🇺🇸

We open for weeks, so according to you being open has cut our cases to zero. So todays numbers are a direct reflection of us opening weeks ago ,right?

Funny how bad it is to watch them deep 6 our economy right in front of our eyes.

Tragic to think about what they are really looking forward to doing once they’ve said this is your new life peasants.

“You know all these movies we have been putting out over the last few years have been preparing you for your new pain threshold “

That wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t a futile, in fact destructive, action in the end.

Yeah great idea, let’s all wait for direction from our new national head of the pandemic response team, Chuck Woolery, who implies only Republicans don’t lie, in a Trump retweet. Fauci, not so much.

Then if and when Honsal finally climbs on board, his deputies should require their orders in writing as well, just to be prudent, because overtime is of the essence, and it’s all about the almighty dollar.
Meanwhile, in Today’s Supes News, repeat offenders of being out of compliance accrue daily fines of $6,000 to 10,000, without delay, upon notice of a public nuisance.
Hmm… Do as we say, not as we do?

” The data suggests not everyone is acting with common sense”, Newsome said.

I will second that.

And why does Dr. Frankovic put Newsomes orders in a future tense?
Is she waiting for something in writing from Honsal?

Is this the Humboldt version of the Trump Vs Fauci dynamic?

Great. Lives are at stake and we got power trippers pulling rank on the doctors and governor’s over money.

That’s not my understanding of the meaning of prudent.
