Eureka Police Forwarded Information About Viral, ‘Fake’ Instagram Account to FBI

The Eureka Police Department posted Wednesday night on its Facebook page that it has forwarded information on an Instagram account to the FBI because the account is being used to “incite conflict and controversy.”

The account, which purports to be from a young man, began on May 11 with a photo that EPD says was “taken from our Facebook page of one of our officers.”

“Look at my dad,” the account posted next to an EPD officer’s photo. According to Brittany Powell, spokesperson for the Eureka Police Department, the officer in question doesn’t have any children.

The next image wasn’t posted until May 31. It shows what looks like the account holder kneeling on the neck of another youth and makes reference to George Floyd, the black man whose death under the knee of a white Minneapolis Police Officer has spiked a wave of protests across the nation including in Eureka.

There are only eight main images posted to the account, including one of a young woman the account holder claims is his deceased mother.

In addition, several images are of people of color and the commenter makes inflammatory statements about the images. The most recent post is a video of what appears to be a schoolbus with a white youth being beaten up by a black youth. The person posting makes several racist statements about people of color in the post.

As of 11:29 p.m. the video has almost 45,000 views and almost 3500 comments, most of which are hostile towards the poster, and some of which are extremely hostile to the officer. (As of 7:35 a.m., the video has over 80,000 views and over 6000 comments.)

The photo of the EPD officer on the account has statements calling for his death and making statements like “exactly why I don’t support cops look at how he raised his ignorance of a son.”

About 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, the account posted in its Instagram story, a photo of Sandy Hook Elementary School, the scene of a horrific fatal shooting of 26 people including 20 children in 2012. A statement on the image warned, “You don’t [want] another situation like this to happen right? RIGHT!?”

Images from the Instagram account.

Facebook post from the Eureka Police Department made on June 3 and 9:21 p.m.:

Today we were made aware that a photo taken from our Facebook page of one of our officers was being used on an Instagram account to incite conflict.

The Instagram account is a fake troll account and is an obvious attempt to agitate and incite conflict and controversy.

We are working to have the account flagged for removal. We will be forwarding all information to the FBI for further investigation. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Thank you to all that made us aware of the issue.

account is a fake troll account and is an obvious attempt to agitate and incite conflict and controversy.

so can someone explain to me how floyds death was racist? did he say a racist slur before he murdered the man? did he say he was doing it because of racism? if there is no evidence of racism being the reason for the murder then the fake news media played all of you. they were just claiming racism with no proof to ‘agitate and incite conflict’.

not relevant. white people are murdered by cops. the question is what is the appropriate response. clearly all good people want the murderer and his accomplices to be punished. with your little cartoon both white and black people would be on the ground holding their legs

As I said fascinating. You have taken the word “Equality” and think because you are not seeing equal political movements for all colors (for you I will key on the white since you seem to.) that it is not equal. That is not the definition of equality.

Equality means if I had a white kid a black kid a brown kid a blue kid a pink kid or an orange kid and gave them the same opportunities they would all be successful. I didn’t do that though I gave my white kid more opportunities better education, healthcare and a job. All my other kids I didn’t provide a decent education for 400 years +, I blamed them for everything in those 400 years to the point they fear me, I made them decide between healthcare or food and I gave them the worst of jobs mostly because they weren’t educated and are very unhealthy. To this day the only thing my non white kids ever wanted in those 400 years is to be treated like my white kid. So what your saying to me is “hey dont forgot about your white kid in all this.”

As discussed below, cuffing someone and putting the weight of officers on the back and neck is, to say the least, a highly unusual response to and instance of counterfeit money being passed. Please find us an example of a White person getting similar treatment in a similar situation before you discount racism as a factor.

there could be a multitude of reasons i dont know about. the guys knew each other for years, maybe he slept with the other guys wife, i dont know. but the proof of evidence is not on me or my argument. the burden of proof is on those making an accusation. if i claim you did something then the burden of proof is on me or else i could just say hey thirdeye raped someone and you just have to go to jail for that. so i say where is the proof or evidence that the cop made a racist killing

My challenge was for dabby to provide evidence for his assertion that “there was nothing racist about the arrest” by showing similar circumstances resulting in similar treatment for a White suspect. But you apparently have no problem with dabby’s assertion while having a problem with challenging it for its lack of evidence. You are not being honest when you claim that you are motivated by respect for evidence. I support that assertion based on the evidence provided by your own words.

That’s lower than low! NOT what we need for sure- especially after one of our previous officers “took the knee” with peaceful protestors in Santa Cruise. We need to celebrate good deeds and work together for a more positive future for all of man kind –

Taking a knee in support of Antifa terrorists is the lowest of the low. Leftwing cops are the new street thugs, encouraging the burning and sacking of whole neighborhoods by enabling these insurrectionists. Any fake cop or weak kneed soldier who hugs or kneels should be fired and lose all benefits. We need peace through strength, not cowardly, conciliatory hippies in blue.

Trying to divide us further. Ive seen alot of right wing people blame the left. I think you are forgetting alot of history. Civil rights act was passed after days of rioting. Our country was founded on protesting and standing up. Nobody is perfect. Maybe you don’t have the ability to think critically because of your tribal evolutionary tendacies that is inherit in us sll. I think blaming others is a cowardly thing. Use your imagination not your ego.

You’re the one that needs help with history. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed after peaceful protest, a year before the Watts riot and two years before the “long hot summers” of 1966-68. All the riots accomplished was hastening the economic and social decline of urban centers and spurring the alienation that fed the George Wallace campaign and launched Richard Nixon into the White House, in much the same way that the BLM riots of 2014-16 fed support for Trump. Liberals lost credibility over their guilty, hand-wringing response to the riots and urban crime in general.

The account was opened on May 11 … Now, it’s using current events to inflame our small, rural community.
That’s certainly interesting.
My biggest question:
Are there more if these fake accounts in other small, rural areas in the country? If so, it certainly seems that this all could have been planned by larger players for quite some time.
Bricks on street corners?
And not white supremacists groups, think bigger, bigger than China and Russia combined. Use your critical thinking.

Tax payer….if I passed a fake $20 at the grocery store they would take my name maybe look at my D.L. I would not be cuffed and arrested. I am white. The whole incident was racist from the start. You do not get arrested for one counterfeit $20 bill. You certainly do not get the death sentence.

I’m white. I did pass a $20 bill, 2 in fact. Two weeks ago. I received them at an estate sale. I used them at a store. They were confiscated and I was given a receipt, period. No cops, no questions, nothing.

The United States Secret Service recommends if you receive a counterfeit:

Do not return it to the passer.
Delay the passer if possible.
Observe the passer’s description, as well as that of any companions, and the license plate numbers of any vehicles used.
Contact your local police department or United States Secret Service field office. These numbers can be found on the inside front page of your local telephone directory.
Write your initials and the date in the white border areas of the suspect note.
Limit the handling of the note. Carefully place it in a protective covering, such as an envelope.
Surrender the note or coin only to a properly identified police officer or a U.S. Secret Service special agent.

Never said calling the police wasn’t the thing to do. The issue is what Derek Chauvin did in response to the complaint. And he was an officer with a history of citizen complaints and internal affairs investigations. Maybe his prior record indicated racial animus, maybe it didn’t, but keeping him on the force was a systemic dysfunction with tragic results.

Without CLEAR and CONCISE LANGUAGE that demonstrates a commitment to REMOVE ANY TRACE OF RACISM FROM YOUR DEPARTMENT, you are not making the progress necessary to change the situation in the culture of policing in these OUR UNITED STATES.
To the chiefs of all county law enforcement & the sheriff.

We understand that this problem is not yours alone and the DISTRICT ATTORNEY and the JUDGES OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY must also MAKE THIS COMMITMENT to the CITIZENS THAT ELECTED YOU.

The time has come.

No one should have to make the statement I just made – YOU SHOULD BE RISING TO THE OCCASION.

If you don’t think there has been forthright condemnation of the killing of George Floyd from police departments across the country, and specifically from the Eureka Chief and Humboldt County Sheriff, you haven’t been paying attention.

You think you can fully understand a situation from a few minutes of video?

Trial by media gets everybody expecting what they think they already know…guilty.

Then when the jury, who actually takes the time in a court of law to understand and judge….if it comes back not guilty….riots.

Justice is served in court for good reason. You cannot make a accurate judgment based on news alone. Especially the MSM who has been lying to us for years.

Looks like the dude is guilty, yes, but looks can be decieving. I’ll wait for the FACTS to pass judgement.

Ever notice that OJ Simpson was found “not guilty?”
The ability to actually mount a well funded defense gives even a very likely factually guilty defendant the ability to avoid the most serious convictions. Police are tried in an environment that is quite friendly to their status. They are shielded from investigations and never arrested at the time of the incident. They are rarely testified against by their fellow officers. And they are trained to avoid (self-incriminating) statements that could undermine their testimony.

Compare that to the average defendant, who has only the technicality of a defense. Over charged. Intimidated by armed adversaries, and physically deprived of freedom while being questioned. Often jailed and deprived of their economic and social support while supposedly being allowed to prepare a defense. Public defenders who need their clients to plead guilty in order to handle their work load.

It’s a level playing field, I guess. But a lousy quarterback supported by an NFL team has a better chance than a great quarterback with a Pop Warner squad. Me and the Chiefs offense vs. Patrick Mahomes and the Pop Warner squad. Well, maybe not but I bet I wouldn’t get sacked.

Yes. And the biggest thing we can do for justice, is in the courts. The groups that help provide competent council, and get help for those wrongly convicted are doing awesome work.

There’s a whole movement in motion with documentaries about wrongly convicted and people puting resources to helping people through the system. That’s a movement I support for sure.
