Eureka Mayor Susan Seaman Gives Address on COVID-19

This is a press release from the City of Eureka:

Hello. I’m Mayor Susan Seaman.  As I’ve shared with you in my previous communications, the City of Eureka is continuing to work strenuously to support the health and well-being of our citizens, our community, and our economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now that things are gradually opening up, we’re finding that there’s a little less to communicate, so we’ll begin sharing these PSAs every other week.  We’re hoping that this will be our first step toward our new normalcy.

This week, the City of Eureka has begun offering sidewalk encroachment permits for restaurants that will be opening soon.  For appropriate businesses, like restaurants offering dine in services, salons, and barber shops, we strongly recommend beginning the County’s certification process.  Although they can’t open yet, having the certification information submitted can help expedite the process.

I’d also like to congratulate businesses that have gone through the certification process.  If you’re looking to support our local businesses that have successfully received certification, you can find the list at humboldtgov.org.

As we’re beginning to reopen, it’s more important than ever to continue practicing safe habits. Please continue doing your part to control the community spread of COVID-19.  If you leave your home, practice social distancing and wear a mask.  Wash your hands, cough or sneeze into your elbow, avoid touching your face, and sanitize your cell phone and other items you touch or share frequently.

This is not the time to lower our guard.

For those of you who haven’t been able to socially distance, or for those of you who work with the public, you can be tested for COVID-19 at the Redwood Acres testing site.  You are able to get retested as many times as you need.  To schedule a test, visit LHI.care/covidtesting.

I also want to take a moment to recognize and congratulate those of you who have graduated and are graduating during this time.  I know that graduation did not look much like it has in the past.  I commend you for your efforts and accomplishments, and encourage you to celebrate responsibly.

As always, and in addition to our video updates and social media posts, you can find regular updates at the City of Eureka’s website, which is ci.eureka.ca.gov, as well as links to other important community resources.

Again, I’m Mayor Susan Seaman, and I appreciate your attention to this message. Be safe, stay healthy, be patient with yourself and kind to your neighbors and family.  We’ll talk again soon.

“ Now that things are gradually opening up, we’re finding that there’s a little less to communicate, so we’ll begin sharing these PSAs every other week.”

Wouldn’t there be more to communicate and therefore PSAs should be more frequent? Sounds like someone is trying to gradually slip back out of the public eye.
