A Tale of Two Protests…
What follows is not a news story.
It’s my job to make sense of things–to explain what happened when and why. But sometimes a story can’t be broken down or maybe shouldn’t be broken down into a timeline.
This is an attempt to try and not make sense of what happened today in a conventional way but show two very different windows into what happened at the protest. Some will find truth in one video–all sweetly choreographed. Some find truth in the chaos and pain of the second.
For some it was the best of protests. For others, it was the worst of protests.
Even in a city as small as Eureka which protest you saw might depend on where you stood and what lens you looked through.
One woman, Malia Freedlund, saw a peaceful protest that made her proud.

Another, reporter Nazy Javid from Channel 7, saw chaos and a message being lost.
The protests they saw were as different as day and night. Both protests happened…and are happening across the nation today and yesterday and tomorrow.
And how we reconcile the yin and yang, their push and pull, will define us as we move forward.
