“Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal and 1st District Supervisor Rex Bohn walk the public through getting a COVID-19 test at Redwood Acres.”
“This is for the safety of our community,” Supervisor Rex Bohn said. He appears to state that the more negative tests that come through the center, the better the proportion of negative to positive tests which allows for reopening.
He stated, “The more people that get tested…the more negative tests…we’re going to move this thing forward in the next few weeks. We’re going to make some great strides…We understand the economics are involved and that’s why we are going to start seeing more movement in the next weeks.

Everyone does NOT need a test!
It would be much more instructive to do ANTIBODY testing, at this time, and to test the people who have SYMPTOMS, like fever, dry cough etc, but wasting money on unnecessary testing is just silly, at this juncture, and gives us no information about the population.

The reliability of serology tests (antibody) is still under review. A 50% false positive rate has been found. Currently antibody tests are useless in determining individual immunity. Widespread testing, including asymptomatic person is actually critical in assessing the effect of steps to open the economy and ease mitigation restrictions. Don’t confuse people that need a test for individual DIAGNOSTIC reasons, from the SERVIELLENCE testing critical to detect and contain local outbreaks before they morph into runaway trains.
New test methods, including direct antibody testing on the Beckman Access system, will improve results.

Like comedy, sex, and cooking, timing is everything! Mass testing for C-19 viral antigens is a huge waste of resources.
Absolutely right – without antibody test all the numbers are skewed. THey are finding more and more people asymptomatic.
Thought most who have it don’t show symptoms at all? Would be good to see if anyone has had the virus. I think that Northern California could have been exposed earlier than thought. When I flew into SFO in December customs had huge amount of people coming in from Asia, I had some mysterious sickness for almost two months. Was terrible.

Two of our biggest losers in County government out for more publicity. It’s a waste of time and money. Very unimpressive. I’m all for a recall on both of them.
Alf, the loser is Rex Bohn. Sheriff Honsal has kept everyone up-to-date with virus news. His Question and Answer videos are and have been very helpful. I see no reason to drag him down for a job well done. People need to get off his back! Too bad you don’t have a law enforcement background, you could run for Sheriff and show us how it is done.
I know Honsal personally. His policies are failing everyone. The only area he has had any decent success is marijuana eradication. His priorities are strictly criminal activities that will give publicity to the department. Other than that he is a waste of taxpayer dollars. I have multiple out of area law enforcement officers in my family, several out of state, so I know how it’s supposed to work. And it isn’t working here.

Trump deemed all religious sanctities as essential and overrode any governor that said otherwise. Leaving the churches and places of worship to decide what was best for them. That was on Friday last week. Then Newsome came along and acted as though he was the one allowing the reopening which was not the case at all. If it were up to him they would still be closed, but Trump put a stop to that.
I don’t know about the logic of this but it’s typical government thinking. How many unnecessary things are done simply to prove something that is basically not material so that the government works up the nerve to do something they should be doing but don’t want to get blamed for if it has a problem?

To me this is a good sign. I think all of our public officials should be tested daily if need be. We need all hands on deck. For Billy to be infected and spread that through the department or for him to be out of capacity during this time would be a disaster. lIke them or not our elected officials are running the show. If we start losing them along with the other County Workforce we would be in real trouble. I also think that front line medical workers as well as front line essential workers like store clerks and restaurant workers should have access to as many tests as the need at any time they choose to get one. Supervisor Bohn is right, the more we can test and the more negatives that come back the faster we can get back to normal life. Also if we have the ability now to rapidly test the known contacts of the people who do test positive we can isolate those cases before they get out of hand. That being said I dont think we all need to be tested. Im in the lower risk categories and my lifestyle doesnt have me interacting with that many people on a any given day. When I go to public places I wear a mask and diligently wash my hand and use hand sanitizer. So i feel like unless I have been in known contact with an infected person or I develop symptoms I think using a test for me would be an inappropriate use of that test. That being said I do feel that anyone who wants a test should be able to go and get one free of charge.
