Searchers have been scouring the area of Little Valley Road in the Fort Bragg area for a missing 77-year-old man. On May 24 and 25, as many as 54 people scrutinized the area where they hoped to locate the missing man, Luther George Jackson.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office’s Public Information Officer Greg Van Patten provided insight into the circumstances surrounding the elderly man’s disappearance.

According to Van Patten, MCSO initially observed that “nothing in the home seemed suspicious. All his belongings were there and his car.” Jackson did have a small plot of marijuana growing on his property “for personal use”.

Van Patten explained that MCSO was provided information that recently Jackson had told a friend that he had found “an old abandoned grow site” in the woods near his home. He expressed to his friend that he was going to restore it.

MCSO’s efforts are focused on locating that abandoned grow site, said Van Patten. MCSO was told Jackson had to “fashion a bridge to get across a creek” to get to the grow site. Jackson also mentioned to his friend there were some “rare, protected” trees adjacent to the grow site. Van Patten said MCSO have focused their search efforts on areas that include the aforementioned spatial cues. MCSO is even consulting with local timber companies to identify areas with protected timber, explained Van Patten.

It is unknown what clothing Jackson was wearing when he went missing.”

Van Patten characterized Jackson as healthy and having no known medical conditions. He encouraged anyone with information about Mr. Jackson’s whereabouts to please contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center at (707) 463-4086.

Well, remember the couple back a few months ago that we’re found after something like a week stuck in the brush near little river I think it was. Hope for a similar out come here. But if not, I’m sure he was doing what he loved. Beats a hospital bed any day.

Yeah, imagine for just a moment. //The secret garden.//

50 years ago this now old-timer was a 27 year-old guerilla snaking water lines underneath the manzanita thickets.

Luther George Jackson could have told his version of the other side of the story, unless he ran out of time. His disappearance is sound reasoning why we need to help garner the stories of prohibition, before they fade away.

Sending you the best I can, OG, please come back.

I’m working on a book now. There is history that needs saving. Got some stuff going back to 85. My story is part of it too.

My guess is that something went wrong while trying to cross the creek. Hopefully he is simply immobile for some reason and waiting for rescue.

Was he restoring the forest or restoring the garden? Which one? At least the weather is not freezing, he seems like a tough old man. This lady survived 17 days eating slugs and drinking contaminated water in a Hawaiian Rainforest, Chances are the old timer is out there unable to walk or injured, Hoping for his safe return: Perhaps he set up a grow camp and is doing his spring planting and will emerge just fine? Good Luck!
