According to Dr Frankovich our hospitals are like Hotel California. You can check out any time you like but you can never leave.

It is worth knowing that the people who comment here are not representative of the population of this country. MOST of us support the stay at home orders, even at our own economic peril. Most of us want to protect the vulnerable. Most of us are willing to wait til there is effective treatment or a vaccine, which by the way most of us will be willing to take.
Sleep well, stay safe, wear your mask, wash your hands. Love your neighbors as yourselves.

What are you basing this statement on? Is there polling data or are you basing it on your circle of cantacts? I’d say the opposite if I assumed my circle of contacts are representative of the whole area…

This is what can happen when government entity’s take advantage of a “crisis.” Stay home. Wear your mask. Nothing to see.

The very disdain for masks and general public health guidelines being shown by majority-white protest groups throughout the U.S. and Europe is based on their assumption of freedom from debility and the right to justice in the face of potential harm. So when these protesters hold up signs of varying language saying, essentially, I AM WHITE, believe them.

It’s a minority, but bad enough to make national news and deserving of a history lesson..

Ironically, the sign held also said “think for yourselves” also, but now the one woman says “I didn’t think about it”, regretting the decision to hold someone else’s sign.

Doggo is right.

And between the weekly news (and comments) out of Humboldt, the mother of David Josiah Lawson has been shown to be right too, with her accusations of deep rooted racism in Humboldt.

Thanks for the article, Brian, and your comments.

Racism is the ONLY reason we make national news, it seems… the whole fiasco with Josiah’s murder, the dumb Nazi, and now this.

My heart will always ache for Charmaine, as she paid the highest price a person can pay, for this system of ignorance and cruelty, this repugnant miasma, and the ugly truth about who we are.

We, the people, are going to have to find a way to do better.

You do know the USA and Europe are majority white, right? So it follows these protests would be as well.

An “entertainment writer” from that link publishes an opinion piece from a post by a Brazilian who is a Professor in America who just published a book “Racialized Identities in Second Language Learning: Speaking Blackness in Brazil” which “provides a critical overview and original sociolinguistic analysis of the African American experience in second language learning.” Where did you think that opinion was going? An investigation of the misunderstanding of the image by Americans or Europeans? Or an analysis of the information spread without understanding over the internet? Of course such images – most likely created by white abolitionists originally – used by white without proper homage are going to be called “appropriation” for an extra bit of knife twisting in the service of retroactive justice. How dare people use a black woman’s image of degradation especially since they could have very easily found on with a white woman and avoided offending the politically correct? Probably. Maybe.

Yep, I’m fully aware that “doggo” on the blog-o doesn’t speak for anybody at all. I talk with people. It’s about 50/50. But don’t take my word for it either, I’m an anonymous blog commenter. Think for yourself, if you know how. You’re looking forward to getting injected with some strange new virus? Have fun with that.

Hardly anyone without feeling the security of a government sourced benefit would be so optimistic about being in “financial peril.” Even those with one must know that it comes from taxes and, no matter how reliable they think it is, without taxes coming in, government can not pay them. I feel the ghost of Romney’s 47% percentage haunting this site.

The ignorance that I see expressed in many of the comments i read make me ashamed of being a part of this community. Some of you talk out of your ass… this pandemic is real and if you refuse to do your part by SIMPLY wearing a mask in public place, your really just a selfish ignorant.

No it is not. I don’t wear my mask as a protest to the fact that you can still get a flight from Wuhan, China to New York City. You can get a flight from New York City to LA and Arcata Airport is still open, receiving people from LA or wherever. This mask bullshit is an exercise in control and I will not wear one until the powers that be do something to actually protect this community, like shutting down the airport. The majority of our exposures have been travel related. A lot of the first exposures took place on a flight from LA to Arcata. The fact that I can book a flight from Arcata to LA to New York to Wuhan, China and back again by only having my temperature taken in select airports, even though you start shedding the virus long before you have any symptoms, yet I can’t leave my house without a mask is complete baloney. I guarantee that if this virus was actually really gnarly, like the black plague, I doubt there would be a single flight going anywhere. Shut down the airport and I’ll wear my mask, otherwise shut the f*ck up.

Willingly exposing others to a potentially deadly virus is your way of protesting a policy you don’t like? How is that any different than shooting someone to protest gun laws?

I wash my hands, I respect personal space, and I don’t go out if I’m sick, thats how. Same exact way I keep from spreading the flu and everything else. Its different because I don’t purposely spread anything, but you would purposely have to shoot someone.

There have been ongoing flights the past 6wks at least, maybe longer – many per day going LAX direct to China, including direct to Wuhan. The flight path goes directly over us and I track them regularly on flightradar24. Makes me wonder …

Why do you keep saying that even though there is good evidence that immunity of some length is most likely. If there is no immunity, than the medical technique of giving sick individuals the antibodies of recovered people would not exist.

DaPisan…protest away, if you must, but every business owner wants you to wear a mask. It’s not asking that much…and it would show respect & support for business owners.
Aztec Grill@ Chevron just exposed ppl for 5 days of peak hours, in Mckinleyville. So, go out all you want, but please wear a mask.

Doggo I agree with you. I see most of the people around me I don’t wear a mask and anyway I’m exempt from the mask madness due to health issues. To bad a couple local businesses don’t want me in their stores. I do believe its 100% their right but I will never be going to those places ever again. No problem we will shop in Fortuna & Eureka for the rest of our lives.

I have a tough time understanding why after the hospitals aren’t full & infected numbers were so small this mask requirement was forced on us.

As mentioned by 1911 WHY is the airport still open if travel cases are a large cause? I’m still baffled why if the virus threat is so real that medical grade masks aren’t encouraged if not required. It makes no sense. Are the average citizens worthy of only 2nd or 3rd class real world protection?

RedW-the businesses in Fortuna& Eureka want you to wear the mask. Please show respect. BECAUSE airports are stupidly open, doesn’t mean we need to be more stupid. The frontline workers who used ppe fared better than most others, even tho they were in the highest exposure environments. THE MASK IS YOUR ONLY PROTECTION. We are opening businesses, and we are on our own to help to stop the spread. The mask is a proven deterrent, not a cure or 100% guarantee- without the mask, you put yourself & others at way more risk- Be smart& kind.
