I’m told that the height is higher than that of the Golden Gate Bridge.

I hope it was quick for him.

Condolences to his loved ones . i think it’s time to talk about a suicide prevention fence for this bridge . Its Just to easy . a quick google shows it’s becoming a “suicide magnet“.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5218568/

The goal of the study was to compare the effectiveness of different suicide prevention measures implemented on bridges and other high structures in Switzerland.

More than one suicide at a particular site should always give cause for concern. Although two deaths do not necessarily indicate a hotspot, it nonetheless suggests that the location has appeal for suicidal individuals (Cox, 2013). So when suicides do occur at a site – a particular bridge, for example – what can be done to deter people from jumping from it in the future?

Condolences to friends and family! I am so sorry for your loss and the communities loss!!
Suicide surviver -I think livable wages would be the best start for suicide prevention locally myself. We are living in a busted boom town, this is becoming far too common and it’s all very predictable, addiction, crime, aces, violence, including To oneself, etc. When people do not have meaning in their lives or a way to provide for their families, life can seem pretty hopeless and there are thousands of families experiencing this across the county since prop 64 passed. People are going to find a way to end their life if they want to regardless of fencing or railing on this bridge or any other one.

“People are going to find a way to end their life if they want to regardless of fencing or railing on this bridge or any other one.”

This is a commonly held belief and it is factually false. Not all methods of suicide are equal. Jumping suicides are statistically impulsive acts and folks that are stopped from taking the leap do not go on to find another spot, method, or try again. Putting barriers up on popular jumping spots works.

SFgate did a series on Golden Gate suicides a number of years ago called Lethal Beauty. Plenty of great info in it. Google it if you want to learn something. Too many people have the”there’s nothing we can do!” attitude that is wrong, adds to the stigma, and helps no one.

Just to add…don’t take my word for it; do your own research. Doesn’t take much time on Google to find credible research: https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/means-matter/means-matter/survival/

That link alone is full of all kinds of good info. One tidbit: Only about 7% of people stopped from committing suicide go on to eventually kill themselves. A full 70% don’t have another attempt.

I venture that many have thought about that new span, I know I have.
And “confusion hill” couldn’t be a more apt place name for a high bridge over troubled waters

I hope that you are not inferring that you have thought about jumping off of it. If so, please reach out to any one of the multitude of resources available to you and know that everything in life is temporary.
Peace…

Buster, I believe you mean you hope Canyon Oak is not “implying”. You are “inferring” that from his remark.

“everything is temporary” is one of the kind but misguided things to say to suicidal people. A lot of suicidal people haven’t had as many good times throughout their life. When there have been far more lows than highs reminding them about their fleeting and far between good times just reminds them how short lasting they where. Everyone has bad times, some have wayyyyyyyy more.

God is there. He is the only One who can truly know and understand pain and heartache of this magnitude. His arms alone can comfort those left behind.

Wow, some of these comments lead me to believe who this may have been, although surely unlikely, it’s possible it was a friend of mine.
I hope not, but I don’t wish it on anyone.
Northwest,
Your comment suggests you may have known him and suggests a condition.
Doesn’t matter who his doctor was if he had what’s sometimes referred to the
Suicide Disease.
It’s called Trigeminal Neuralgia or Tic Douloureux.
Sometimes described as the most painful affliction known to man.
Opioids do nothing to ease it’s pain.
I had never heard of it until a family member got it. It can manifest itself in a few ways. Miraculously it was resolved in this case and presentation with next to the brain surgery and specially “tailored” “pants”. A special protective covering for the nerve and blood vessel in the problem area where they pass through a bone in the skull.

I’m not sure if this surgery’s possible for my friends case. I know he has lived with it for a long time, and suffered other tragedy.

Combined with one other comment, this really makes me worry about my friend.

My initial research into this problem indicated that there was a time when having it was the number one reason people jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge, due to lack of treatment options at that time.

A very sad ending to his life. Some thing was apparently bothering him that he was not able to cope with. You never know what pain other people are living with. May he RIP. Condolences to his family. God bless.

For 100s of millions the economic stress of this fear installed crisis will be overwhelming. Many of these suicides will go unnoticed and unreported. In another 6 months the lack of toilet paper and the possibility of catching covid will be the least of our worry’s. Alcoholism and drug abuse will reign.Domestic violence will go unchecked. Crime and set free criminals will infest our streets. Lack of income, permanent closure of your business that you have invested everything in along with the possibility of being homeless will wreak havoc on American lives. Unfortunately the deaths of people who die from the side affects of this self inflicted crisis, suicide or otherwise, will not be tallied into the covid death numbers. 40 million people in California. 1000 deaths. No we are not returning to normalcies and prosperity, sorry to burst your bubble. This is the new norm.

Friend of mine jumped off that bridge and survived. It is def possible, he landed in the H2O. Please, don’t judge people’s choices as we are in a crisis which God created due to abortions done by murdering doctors. Actually COVID has saved more lives then taken due to no elective murders being carried out by these killer doctors who infest our country. In fact most are illegal immigrants! This must stop, I’m all for the pandemic to continue if it saves the lives of Gods children. And before you judge me this boys mother is a dear friend from the Church we attend everyday. We have been forced to hold private service due to the lives we are saving during the flu. Thank you all for staying the course….we will stop the murder of innocent children killed every few minutes.
