Worker Safety Project to Begin on State Routes 3 and 299 in Trinity County on June 1st

This is a press release from Caltrans District 2:

Caltrans District CTThe California Department of Transportation (Caltrans District 2), in conjunction with Tullis Inc., is preparing to start work on the Trinity Worker Safety Project on State Routes 3 and 299 in Trinity County. The $2.3 million project is making worker safety improvements at 12 locations along these two routes. Work planned for the project includes:
·        Replacement or modification of bridge rails at Little Browns Creek Bridge (SR 299) and Rush Creek Bridge (SR 3).
·        Construction/Extension of chain-on areas, with lighting additions.
·        Construction of maintenance vehicle turn outs.
·        Installation/Replacement of changeable message sign boards and flashing beacon signs.
·        Paving weather station access and snow plow turn-arounds.
Construction activities are currently planned to start on June 1. Some work will be done off the roadway or on shoulders, requiring no lane closure. At other locations, motorists should plan for one-way traffic control with 5-minute delays. 24/7 signalized traffic control (with 5-minute delays) is currently anticipated for work at the two bridge locations. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive carefully in and around construction areas. The project is currently anticipated to be fully completed by late October.
Construction projects are subject to changes without prior notice.  Caltrans and its contractors do our best to keep the public informed.  To stay up to date on highway projects, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter.  The public can also call (530) 225-3426 during working hours or send an email to [email protected].
The State’s transportation system is a high priority for California. As the Caltrans 2020 Construction Season has begun, North Region Construction and District 2 are aiming to follow construction operations as scheduled while monitoring developments related to the COVID-19 emergency.

I’m looking forward to the improvements as they benefit the only highways I drive.

“Construction of … vehicle turn outs.” If only slow drivers know what these are and put them to use… Maybe bigger signs that say: “Slow vehicles (THAT MEANS YOU!) Use turnouts.”

They just added wider shoulders and more safe pull-off spaces on lord-ellis… I was hoping they were going to widen it enough to put in a passing lane or turnout on the westbound side.

The two “Chain-on areas with lighted additions” between Douglas City and Buckhorn, (one on each side of the road) seem in odd places to me, but then again, what do I know…..
