🕯🌳More testing will prove more cases. 🖖🌍🐸👁
And just because you’ve been tested doesn’t mean you aren’t just as susceptible as me to get it from the next person you encounter.
Well no shit there obliviously. How in the world could folks not understand how important these tests are.
Crap it’s not an invisible enemy when you can see it.
Think it through. Please
What we need, for safety, freedom, the climate and the sustainable children, are bracelets that glow when we bring them within proximity to eachother, so we know who we can and can’t interact with.
There is actually a proximity app that has been developed for that purpose. Positive corovirus people would be registered and your phone would buzz to alert you to their presence in your area.
An introverts dream- a path cleared for you through any crowd. Of course, if you conduct a loud conversation with yourself while walking down the street, you can count on a clear path already.
When is there going to be n95 masks going to be availible for the public… Our Protective face coverings are protecting our fellow neighbors. Which, in theory, if every one does that then it works and I’m totally down for… But people are picking and choosing making face protection obsolete as soon as 1 person is out for them selves and chooses to go with out… I think if we really wanted to stop spreading covid, masks that protect the wearer as well would be better… Also the selfish people might want to pick one up too if their asses are safe… I feel like it is litterally the key to go back to normal!
PS everyone that is not wearing a mask make me feel like they dont care about no one…its a slap in the face!!! It hard not eye scuz you out in the store
People freely choose their own feelings, No one MAKES another person feel anything.
Of course as with most things you can find a few exceptions but basically people choose what they feel.
Hatred is a choice
Forgiveness is a choice
Happiness is a choice
etc.
Come on, everybody. You know it’s still lurking about, so go to town and get you some.
🕯🌳That’s just it some of the people that might have it can’t make it to town to get tested. If the is filled to its limit it will pass you by. Hospitals are getting tired of people coming in and the only supposed major testing site is in Eureka. 🚑🚑🚑🚑
Willie, that’s why I think they should consider using the blood mobile or even the book mobile to set up a mobile testing lab and go to outlying communities.
The active test is not a blooddraw, it’s a deep nasal swab. Bloodmobile is not equipped for these and its staff not trained to do them..
They are trying to build out testing capabilities. They could train people to give the tests. Modify blood mobile or build a mobile lab in a trailer. There is more than one way to skin a mule.
Obliviously, I believe you are quite right. I saw an article about how in Sioux Falls, SD, how centralizing their testing site, and having everyone come on down to a single testing site, actually resulted in a surge of new infections, and proved to be a disaster that basically backfired. Especially for rural counties like our own, I think you’re onto something…
Everyone to a testing site, or a testing site to everyone?
Why wouldn’t the outcome be the same either way?
Because one concentrates patients. The other keeps them closer to home, and dispersed.
I live an hour and a half from Eureka. I wouldn’t go all that way and just get tested, I’d hit the grocery store, hardware store, weed store, cell phone store, tobacco store, Good Relations, pet store, and the RNC headquarters before heading back.
I did a quick search and didn’t find this issue. Could you send me a link or give me more info so I could track it down. [email protected]
Hi, Kym! Good morning! 🙂
The article I found was in the Daily Mail. It was mostly talking about a dispute going on between tribal authorities and the governor, but it had additional information towards the end of the article…
“After the Department of Health held a mass testing for Smithfield employees and their family members this week in Sioux Falls, officials reported a spike in confirmed cases of coronavirus on Friday with 239 new infections.
Nearly 250 new cases were reported on Saturday after a mass testing event in the Sioux Falls area.
State Epidemiologist Josh Clayton said health officials have not been able to sort out which test results came from the mass event, but said it was likely the spike in confirmed cases came from those results.
A total of 203 of the confirmed cases from Friday were reported in Minnehaha County, which contains most of Sioux Falls.
State health officials said that 232 of the 249 new cases reported on Saturday were in Minnehaha County.”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8304061/South-Dakota-governor-gives-Native-American-tribes-48-hours-remove-checkpoints-highways.html
For more on the dispute, I also found this article…
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/sioux-tribe-chairman-hits-back-at-south-dakota-governor-after-she-demands-tribes-remove-coronavirus-checkpoints
My understanding of that is that because there was more testing, more positives were found. Not that the test site caused the spike. I am curious about this though. I wonder how healthy it is to pull people from the outlying areas of Humboldt to get tested in a the central Humboldt area.
Kym, it’s not just a health issue it’s burdensome too. If they want widespread testing I would do so if it were available here in Willow Creek but a 100 mile round trip would make me more inclined to give it a pass.
I agree. I live in SoHum.
Maybe it’s something that would be good to bring up with “the officials,” i.e., Dr. Frankovich and Honsal, over the next media event… After all, if we don’t have a good local infrastructure for testing, (in that it is both effective and safe), we are projected to see more cases as the economy opens up… They’ve already modified projections to upwards of 3,000 deaths per day if we don’t fully utilize testing capacity…
And our testing capacity might be greatly expanded through local innovation. I think this is what Obliviously was saying… that we would do well to focus on innovating locally right now, in order to expand our capacity.
Good thinking, Obliviously. I bet the officials will be interested… I certainly don’t think it’s too much to expect, that we could find ways to accommodate the specific needs of our rural communities and way of life. And I think that your ideas are spot on.
P.S. No offense, Eurekans, but I hate when I have to go to Eureka. It’s so damn far, like, mentally… It always takes the whole day, and I end up exhausted. No offense! But it’s just too far…
We had a bit of a flareup over this issue here
https://lostcoastoutpost.com/2020/apr/9/order-protect-their-citizens-local-tribes-are-bann/
Thanks again, Obliviously. I appreciate having a better understanding, seeing this issue come full circle here… I had missed the LOCO article when it came out!
🕯🌳I’ll second that opinion. Good 👁 Obliviously and Quest.🖖🐸🌍
Thanks, Willie 🙂
And good morning to you, too! 🙂
Please show the new distribution chart so we know what district they were in. I have a medical appointment on Monday morning.
Easier to dodge the bullet if you have some idea where it’s coming from.
If I can avoid catching it, I can avoid spreading it.
Put that in your HIPPA pipe and smoke it, Frankovich.
We don’t have an overabundance of ways to combat this scourge.
Think outside the box.
Zip code would you believe?
If you can’t tell us where it is, we can’t keep ourselves safe. It would be interesting to know how many of these cases were associated with tourist visas, while we stay home. These cases are multiplying here now.
We also need to know sooner rather than later where to avoid for the near future.
Remember, if we can avoid it, we also won’t be a vector.
I didn’t let this genie out of the bottle, but those are my three wishes.
Thumbs up!
Yes multiplying so rapidly. Be scared.
Yes Frankovich, stop hiding behind HIPPA!!!
Ok, ok,
HIPAA. Sheesh. My bad.
Maybe just don’t go door to door in residential neighborhoods, where these Covid patients are staying home inside.
I’ll gladly tell you Tuesday, where not to buy a hamburger today.
Really folks, how hard would it be to include regional data with the daily update.
I’ll even compromise.
Skip it if there are no new cases.
But, Son of a Bitch, don’t wait a week before you tell us.(That updates on Friday only)
That’s more like a slap in the face.
In a week it won’t even be vaguely
relevant or helpful.
Regional updates whenever there are new cases.
A no brainer.
They need to keep us afraid, very afraid.
Went into town. 50% of all businesss closed. Nothing but herds of tweeker bums and dope growers ….. wait , that’s the norm, nevermind.
Those “dope growers” are the major money producers up here. they are the ones that kept your mall shop open in good times. They are the ones pumping money into our local economy. Why are you still here if you hate it so much?
Because, until their step children- violence and drug addiction- took over, people lived in a safer world and hope that when the illegal growers are finally reined in, it can be so again.
There was violence here before weed. there was drug use here before weed. the biggest change in drug addiction in the last 30 years was the promotion of Oxycontins. Those pills, the gateway to heroin addiction came out in 1996. Same year as weed growers started going nuts. Maybe you are seeing correlation with out causation. visit rural areas around the country without weed money, and you see greater crime, greater poverty, and more opiate addiction.
It’s not the using of weed that was referred to but the additional violence that comes with the outlaw grows itself. And the acceptability of recreational drugs use.
Wash your hands like a doctor would. Wear a mask to protect others. It’s not going away anytime soon. Till they figure out a vaccine, or like 200,000 people die (or both). It’s sad but true. We’re lucky we live in a rural county and can walk or drive to places to get some exercise, I couldn’t imagine living in the city right now.
Any truth that both of the new positives were at the protest last sunday.
Um… Duh.
Ha doubt it.. Probably scared ex hippies going to the farmers market.
Nope.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!! NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RRUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!! wait…HHHHIIIIIIDDDEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Went to Wal-Mart in Eureka yesterday. Parking lot full, cars up against cars. Hardly anyone with masks, no sign requiring them. People crammed together all over the store like always, even at registers. Even employees pushing carts with no masks. The whole place ignoring every social distancing rule…idiots all…
Or people who are not afraid of a flu bug…..idiots? The idiots are the ones who brought this nation to its knees. Normalcies and prosperity are far behind us with no return anytime soon. The bigger picture is what people should be afraid of….
FoG: Covid-19 is not just a flu; it doesn’t just affect the respiratory tract. It has caused 30 & 40 year olds to throw blood clots: brain, heart, kidneys. It is much more damaging than the flu with a wider transmission rate. See Johns Hopkins University report on covid-19: heart & kidneys. It has killed more than 78,000 Americans in less than 4 months including toddlers & young adults.
Wasting your time, Hank. FOG is beyond reason, or help. Don’t bother. (S)he can’t “see” JHU report, (s)he is blind by choice.
If we’re really lucky, (s)he’ll go the way of the dinosaur.
If FOG did you wouldn’t know because you’d be safely locked in your house. Look at the video of Honsal and Frankovich- constantly pulling up and fiddling with their face mask as they are simply sitting there and talking. South Korea has a new mini-wave of infections- “Moon added that, “We must never lower our guard regarding epidemic prevention.” But he also said “there’s no reason to stand still out of fear. “ https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/05/09/the-latest-south-korea-prez-says-surge-no-reason-to-panic/ ““We are in a prolonged war. I ask everyone to comply with safety precautions and rules until the situation is over even after resuming daily lives.”” https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-southkorea-idUSKBN22M028
Yes, the virus can be contained if no one leaves their home, has no one come into it . But is it reasonable to design a whole world of detailed regulation to end up having to do that for a couple of years into the future? Are we going to live in a world of hazmat suited officials wander the streets spraying disinfectant while everyone else scurries from home to work to grocery? Or fearfully track “the infected” to keep away from them? No immigration? No vacations? No school? No sports? This is not a “second wave”, one time and done. It is a perpertuate moving battle kept going by government regulation. Until the next virus…
Local,
please don’t denegrate the commenters because they believe differently than you.
Because you believe differently does not mean they are wrong.
The Economy never closed. Some businesses did. The economy reacts to what is going on. Our Economy was fragile prior to the virus. The stock market is not the economy. It’s always been gambling. Would most working folks be stressing if they still had a pension, instead of a 401K? Before the virus we were walking on the brink. the 400 wealthiest individuals in the USA have as much money as ALL black citizens, and 25% of latinos combined. Or in other words, 400 people own as much as 40% of the population. CEO pay in the ’60’s was about 17 times that of a line worker. now CEO pay is 270 times that of their average employee.
Why of course they would be stressing because, in the private sector, if the business fails, the pension mostly evaporates too. Only in the world of “can always tax more” government can pensions be guaranteed. At least until the tax base dries up too much, which usually happens a year or two after the economy folds. There is no magic to that. They people with the ability to make laws are the last to go under.
Pensions were savings made by an employer over the time the employee worked to be paid back at retirement. Not a government tax. You hear “Government Pensions” as a talking point of the austerity freaks ( invariably rich themselves) just because government employees still have traditional pensions. the tax base for these dries up with tax cuts like DonJon gave to the richest. Besides, Government services don’t need to generate profit. They cost. Just like your private car, you spend on fuel to get where you need to go. your fuel costs are not balanced in a profit loss sheet like a work truck. The private sector got scammed into investing all your hard earned money in the stock market. fine while it’s riding high, but like with any gambling you need to leave the table during the winning streak, not after.
Are people not afraid of playing Russian Roulette smarter than the rest?
Fan,
thanks,
well said,
nice posts.
Ice,
please don’t call people idiots for believing differently than you.
Some studies show masks create a worse breathing problem for people.
They are not idiots, you have no right to call people names because they believe differently than you.
If you don’t like places where people don’t wear masks, don’t go there.
54 out of 57 recovered so why are we freaking out again ?
Because even if they have ‘recovered’ it’s likely they have sustained organ or nervous system damage that will impact them the rest of their lives.
So you’re not just *killing* people when you ignore the pandemic prevention policies, you are maiming them too.
Do you give that amount of thought and concern about the people you are potentially killing when you leave your house when you have the flu?
WHy yes, Mike I do.
I was raised to think of others, not just myself.
There surely are people who dismiss the possible effects of this virus just as there are those who refuse to notice that same affects are true of most infectious diseases from the flu to chicken pox. ” Sinus and ear infections are examples of moderate complications from flu, while pneumonia is a serious flu complication that can result from either influenza virus infection alone or from co-infection of flu virus and bacteria. Other possible serious complications triggered by flu can include inflammation of the heart (myocarditis), brain (encephalitis) or muscle (myositis, rhabdomyolysis) tissues, and multi-organ failure (for example, respiratory and kidney failure). ” https://www.cdc.gov/flu/symptoms/symptoms.htm Covid-19 is probably overall not that much worse than many other viruses when they first spread. In fact, it may turn out, when analyzed retrospectively by cooler heads, to be no worse than H2N2 was in 1957, which was bad enough.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzKvIYwqQkE
Seems non partisan.
worse for some people. They are still learning why. We have a population with bad underlying health issues like diabetes, and other obesity related issues. Some of our treatments like Statins, and ACE2 inhibitors may play a role in the Covid Mortalities
Furies, I question the word “likely” in your statement that people who have recovered suffer major organ or nervous system damage. “Likely” means more than a 50% chance. Do you have any information that shows a rate that high to be a result of infection? I would like to see it.
The studies i’ve seen show something more like half the “positive” cases don’t have any symptoms at all. I rather doubt that when a person can’t even feel the presence of the virus in their body, and show no fever or other signs of inflammation, that any “maiming” is occurring.
Do not spread unnecessary fear, please.
Hey Laura
You have search abilities too ya know…
Punch in “Organ damage from Covid” and weep.
We don’t know much about this disease. But we will blunder on wrapped in our comforting beliefs.
just a small sample of what’s available if YOU LOOK!
https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20200423/the-great-invader-how-covid-attacks-every-organ
Duh! It’s not like quarantines are touted as eliminating the virus. It will still be there, waiting, unless the quarantine is universal and lasts a year or two so there are no people available to get it. And how likely is that. The alternative and the one that is going to happen is that either people will develop an individual immunity through contact or an effective vaccine. I suspect that both will be played out and a combination of vaccine use and natural immunity will end the pandemic. In a couple of years. After a few hitches in the get along.
Furies,
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/symptoms/symptoms.htm
the flu causes similar complications.
But the country does not lock down due to it.
we don’t want them to spread it! SARS super spreaders each infected like 30 people each
Does anybody think it’s a little wierd facui and the other dude have patents on this stuff
like DJ T having stock in the hydroxy chloroquin manufacturer? What “stuff” does Fauci have patents on? who is “the other dude”? Like come on! if you are going to string together a conspiracy, at least get creative.
Jesus H Christ, it’s a f—ing virus. Live smart. Live safe. But LIVE! The sky is not falling. 57 cases, 0 deaths, 137,000+ residents , a crisis it’s not.
” its a f—ing virus”… Dude viruses will kill the F— out of you! most we run into are mild, but that doesn’t mean they all are! Just cuz you’ve survived a cold, doesn’t mean Hanta virus, or whatever won’t hurt you.
The Nation is bigger than Humboldt. we are a tiny backwater. good place to be when shit goes down. have you seen any footage of hospital settings where there are more cases?
I can’t say it any better than elixir!!!
yet a fifth grader could
Well stay home then if your scared dont try and force everybody to have to have your level of concern it sounds like were all going to be exposed eventually might as well jump in head first find out were you stand maybe some people got to go it’s just a matter of time before there going to round you up for your fema camp anyway I rather get it and see where I stand rather then live in a state of paranoia having the goverment tell me what I can and can not do screw that bring on the virus
You used
“going to round you up for your fema camp ..”
and
“..rather then live in a state of paranoia…” in the same run on sentence!
How does the theory work if your “fema camp” is delusional?
Goat tested positive for covid in Africa.
From the New York post.
https://nypost.com/2020/05/06/faulty-coronavirus-kits-suspected-as-goat-and-fruit-test-positive-in-tanzania/
Elixir,
yes.
Thanks, agreed.
Have thought that weird, they have patents on the virus, and patents on the vaccine.
Also weird is that gates’ fortune has doubled since his foundation has become one of the largest foundations that vaccinate people.
Contradiction? Irony? Cognitive Dissonance? All of the above? Only for the brainwashed.
Elixir made some good points, maybe too good, or the commenter would not have insulted Elixer.
Blood clots may be a complication of covid, this part is very treatable. Maybe the treatments for pulmonary thrombosis could be made available locally just in case.
