School Closure Update

4/9/20 Update
McKinleyville Students and Families,
At last night’s Board meeting, the Board voted to authorize the McKinleyville Union School District Superintendent, Heidi Moore-Guynup, to be able to make immediate decisions regarding physical campus closures. In accordance with recommendations from Governor Gavin Newsom, State Superintendent of Instruction, Tony Thurman, Humboldt County Public Health Department and the Humboldt County Office of Education, our Superintendent has determined that the safest action, given our status of community spread of COVID-19, is to close our physical campuses  through the duration of the school year. This authorization also provides our Superintendent with the opportunity to rescind the closure status should things dramatically improve sooner than expected.
We know this news will be difficult for many as it is for all of us. We are working diligently to develop robust distance learning opportunities both on-line as well as by packets for all of our students. We are also busy seeking input from our stakeholders about possible graduation/promotion ideas. Although different, we recognize the extreme importance of this right of passage.
Thank you for continuing social distance guidelines and for being an important member of our McKinleyville Community.
Sincerely,
Heidi Moore-Guynup, Superintendent
