Doesn’t this kind of defeat the purpose of closing the school? I know students need to eat… but how is this containing a possible spread? Maybe they should do a drop off service to students’ porches so there is no contact.
The idea is that people will drive up and be handed food bags and then leave to consume them elsewhere, hopefully at home. This allows no real contact or exposure to staff or other students. Delivering to each individual porch in the rural areas of Humboldt County is very impractical.
Hope this helps.
FUHS has provided literally no information about the closure to parents. I’m super glad the priority was figuring out meals, because that is really very important to many families, but no info about the actual closure itself. I found out about the closure on social media and have no idea if there is going to be anything required of students to do or anything Just no info. Poor form, in my opinion.
This came out yesterday and I linked to it in my school post:
The Fortuna Union High School District Board of Trustees held an Emergency Board Meeting on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 2:00 PM. in response to the growing concerns and for our community’s health and well-being, the Trustees approved the following actions for immediate implementation:
1. All District schools will be closed through March 27, 2020.
2. All school-related, school-sponsored activities have been suspended until March 27, 2020 as well. This includes, but not limited to extra-curricular activities, clubs, professional development, and sporting events.
3. The District will continue to evaluate academic delivery methods. We are planning to provide meals for our students during this closure. Please keep checking the website and Social Media for updates as to where and when.
The Fortuna Union High School District will continue to provide you with current information regarding this situation. We thank you for your understanding and patience during these uncertain times. Please rest assured, we have your student’s and our community’s well-being as a priority.
We will be re-evaluating weekly, continually planning and our community can expect updates from the District weekly.
If you have any questions, please contact your school office.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that is NOT happy with the way this has been handled. Absolutely no information. I found out was closed because the track coach contacted us to tell us no practice for the two weeks school is closed. Seriously? I’m glad they are offering this service but the way this is being handled is ridiculous! They were more informative letting us know that all school sports and events including prom was canceled. 🤷🏼♀️
