Snow in the Hills, Rain Elsewhere!

Turkeys in the Snow

Snow fell in the hills overnight and the National Weather Service in Eureka reports that a winter storm warning is in effect until 11 p.m. Sunday above 2500 feet in most of the Emerald Counties. Seven to fourteen inches of accumulation is expected! And even at 2000 feet three to six inches are possible.

If you are traveling, Highways 3, 199 and 299 are expected to be impacted. The Weather Service warns, “Be prepared for tricky travel across the mountain passes, and slow down in any heavier showers! It’s been awhile since we’ve had to use our wet/wintry weather driving skills, so they might be a little rusty. Use extra caution.”

For those lower than 2000 feet, the Weather Service notes,

Today will be a much chillier day, with the first substantial rainfall in almost a month for many areas (longer than that for some locales). Other areas, especially above 2500 feet elevation, will be seeing substantial snowfall. The precipitation will be showery, with variable conditions ranging from clouds, light rain, brief heavy rain, even small hail, along with the occasional break of sun in between showers.

🇺🇸In Fortuna it started with rain then went to pin size hail to pea size hail then it started coming down harder all while the sun was out, then it went back to rain now it’s back to the pin size hail and rain and the sirens are going off.🇺🇸
