Shasta County School Wrestling Coach Arrested for Sexual Assault of Student(s)

Stephen Reed

On Monday, February 24, 2020, the Shasta County Major Crimes unit was advised that a possible sexual assault of female student(s) had occurred over the span of the last two years at Central Valley High School. The head wrestling Coach Stephen Reed, (27 years old) was named as the suspect. Due to the nature of this case and charges, the name(s) of the victims will not be released.

The Major Crimes Unit has been working with Central Valley High School and the Gateway Unified School District Staff to get this situation resolved as quickly as possible. School staff has been very cooperative with the investigation and Reed was immediately suspended at the onset of the investigation.

On February 27, 2020, Reed was contacted by detectives and interviewed. He subsequently confessed to all the known allegations. Reed was placed under arrest and transported to the Shasta County Jail where he was booked for eight counts of 261.5 PC: Statutory rape, four counts of 647.6 (a)(1) PC: Annoy to molest a child, six counts of 289(h) PC: Sex assault with a foreign object on a minor, six counts of 287(b)(1) PC: Oral copulation minor, one count of 288.2 (a) PC; Sending lewd material to a minor, one count of 311.11(a) PC: Possession of child porn, two counts of 272 PC: Contributing to the delinquency of a minor and is currently being held in lieu of $1,027,000 bail.
