Today, State Park rangers in the Dewitt Reserve in the Dean Creek area north of Redway located bones in a former homeless camp. Even though they were reasonably certain the bones did not belong to a human, they requested the Humboldt County Coroner to assist them in identification.

Several residents noticed the law enforcement gathering and questioned why they were in the area. We reached out to Bill Salata, Chief Ranger for California State Parks in Del Norte, Humboldt and Northern Mendocino counties, he was able to tell us quickly that although the Coroner had been called, the bones found were not human.
