[UPDATE Tuesday]SWAT Arrested Armed and Dangerous Suspect

Kevin Lee Haberman

Kevin Lee Haberman

About 5:45 p.m., the Humboldt County SWAT team arrested Kevin Lee Haberman (age 41) at a residence near the intersection of Hawthorne and Spring Streets in Eureka, stated Sgt. Jesse Taylor of the Humboldt County Drug Task Force in a text message.

Haberman was wanted of a variety of charges (See below) and was considered armed and dangerous.

According to the Humboldt County Drug Task Force press release issued February 7, “Haberman is currently wanted for possession of an illegal machine gun, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of high capacity magazines, and possession of controlled substances for sales.”

Around 4:06 p.m., according to Chief Steve Watson, a uniformed Eureka police officer saw a vehicle associated with a suspect. While the officer was looking around, a window on a nearby residence was open closed. This made him think the suspect might be inside. EPD set up a perimeter. Due to previous threats made, SWAT was called.

A family member assisted law enforcement with contacting the suspect. The suspect surrendered peacefully.

Chief Watson said he’s glad that everyone went home safe today.

UPDATE Tuesday:
Haberman has been released.

This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Kevin Haberman

Kevin Haberman

On February 24, 2020 at about 4:05 p.m., an officer with the Eureka Police Department located a vehicle associated with wanted person Kevin Haberman parked to the rear of an apartment in the 600 block of W. Hawthorne Street. Haberman (41 of Eureka) was wanted by the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (DTF) and had an active warrant for weapons and drugs.

While the officer investigated the associated vehicle, a window to the apartment was shut. The investigation quickly revealed that Haberman was inside. Additional units responded and a perimeter was set up. Based on the circumstances of the warrant, EPD requested assistance from the Humboldt County Multi-Agency SWAT team.

Upon the arrival and deployment of SWAT members, Haberman was ordered out of the residence. He complied and was taken into custody without further incident. Haberman was transported and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility (HCCF) on the existing warrant stemming from the DTF investigation.

Bernie wants convicted felons to be able to vote. Regardless of the rest of his policies, that is the most delusional, vote-buying policy I have ever heard of.

It’s actually not. Prison labor is modern day “slavery” dare I say it. People mess up, sure, but being incarcerated for life doesn’t constitute losing your ability to vote for change in this country. Prisoners are still people counted within our country’s population, they don’t just disappear even if the majority of their rights do.

I know that might be a “radical” idea to some, but I think it’s even more radical to just willfully ignore that although these people are in prison for a reason, that their voices are still heard.

There’s a reason Bloomberg cut ties with an agency that was using prison labor to make phone calls on his campaign’s behalf. Because it’s immoral and modern day slave labor.

Im talking about the millions that are on welfare and “free stuff “ lady. I’m talking about the millions more that will stop working once socialism takes hold. I’m talking about freedoms that will be lost and never regained. For example, I will be FORCED to get “free” healthcare with no other options available. I will be forced to have the same level of care as a street vagrant and will be find if I don’t comply. Forced into sub standard healthcare. There goes a freedom of choice. Nothing from the government is free, the price is control and forfeiture of freedoms. Remember, government cheese comes in only one flavor, ironically, it’s American. Wake up!

As soon as the drugs are price controlled, everything else will fall in place. My knee surgery totaled 25k from St. Joe’s. Thankfully I was covered by California after a $110 co-pay. When I received the bill, it was an itemized breakdown of expenses. There were 2 charges for $7800 each for anesthesia, plus $2800 dollars for the anesthesiologist. I was under for less than an hour… the other drugs were the morphine and one little old Vicodin. At the pharmacy I was getting Vicodin for about 30 cents each. They charged me $64 for that one single pill. The level of care would be the same if not better in a single-payer system because we would just get taken care without the being given care based on level of income. The system would not be over-run causing the level of care the be less so the government could afford it, just some people would stop getting obscenely rich from holding us all hostage by legally being able charge whatever they want for the drugs thanks to bought off politicians. Hell, the economy would likely see a huge upswing with all that extra money people didn’t have to spend. The fact that so many in this country go completely broke in their last 10 years of life just trying to stay alive and somewhat healthy says a whole lot about the system. Let’s change it, ya?

Lol, you obviously missed the point of that story. I’m saying that the hospital bills are unaffordable because they ‘jack’ up the prices, from the drugs to a bandaid, to astronomical levels. I’m talking about all drugs, I just used the Vicodin as a unit of comparison. It cost 19k to keep me under for an hour. Wtf is that. Those types of increases are all across the board. If the government controlled healthcare, the prices would be microscopic for the single-payer entity in comparison to what we as a people and an economy pay now for our privatized healthcare. The care would not be lesser. In fact, it would likely be far better, faster, and an infinitely less painful process when you don’t have to wonder how many years in debt you’ll be if you choose to get the care you need

A) Bernie isn’t a real socialist. His platform should be described as plain social in that he cares about the lower classes, the working people and the environment, things that make society work.

B) We live in a nation that is socialistic, but not for the right reasons most of the time. Police, fire, schools, these things are all positive social programs. And we do have a semi socialist welfare state, but as MLK stated, its welfare for the rich through subsidies and tax breaks while the poor are forced to live rugged individualism. What Bernie will do is change the scales, with less welfare for the rich and more incentive towards helping the working class with better jobs. Jobs like installing solar panels on government buildings, one of the many campaign promises that Obama never kept.

But really, we need to get away from descriptors like socialism and capitalism and fascism and communism and start asking ourselves, does this make the people of this nation healthy and happy or not. Does this heal the planet for future generations or not. Does this bring us closer together as a people or not. That should be the criteria.

You’re right, Sanders isn’t a Socialist, he’s a dedicated Communist. As an individual, he’s ineffective and weak. Out of the 265 laws he proposed while in Congress only two of them got passed. However, he’s surrounded by hard core leftists of the totalitarian persuasion, and if he gets elected, they are the real danger. While Sanders is pretty good at pointing at the problems, and I agree with many of them, his solutions are toxic and will result in oppression and poverty. That’s what Socialism always results in.

Clearly Sanders is a communist by anyone’s standards and the Russians have had nothing but opposition from the President and have not taken over anything. If you prefer a communist as head of government, at least you can be honest enough to say so. Just as you should be honest enough to place your objections to Trump where they truly are- that he is a capitalist who doesn’t go along with the mystical new world order and not rely on making allegations regarding Trump just because you think other Americans would find it more palatable.

Renaming your agenda “social democracy” is dishonest. Socialists have been angrily intimidating everyone who wants to stop their social-change-by-fiat for over a decade. Democracy is not going to be allowed to stop their bullying anymore than individual rights or tolerance for differences stop them. No agenda that so pits the unproductive against the productive can achieve it’s massive taking by democratic means. In fact it’s agenda thrives by making disparity worse. It encourages the worst aspects of capitalism while wagging its collective finger at it and saying “I told you so”.

I always enjoy the assumptions that no one can be unsupportive of the latest socialist favorite unless they are ignorant. In reality, it is experience that has lead to knowing the end result of socialism. Any ideology that relies on forcing the masses into a system that is so opposed to their intrinsic nature never knows a place to stop. It must always see forcing people as necessary for their own good even if it kills them. And the history of the twentieth century is filled to the brim with socialists killing off their own recalcitrant population in the effort to make their ideology work. They are worse than religions or kings as death machines.

Venezuela was one of the richest nations in the world until the rich realized that they were being forced into helping millions who could AND would not provide for themselves. The rich left. Venezuela is now one of the poorest, government controlled nations in the world with the poor fleeing to America. It took less than 5 years. The goal of socialism is to put everyone at the same economic level and stature, unfortunately, that is too the lowest denominator. Anything more would be unfair. You will have the same job opportunities, healthcare and food options as the homeless junkie on the street. Nothing more, nothing less.

So Venezuela is really doing fine and it’s only degenerate capitalists that say otherwise? Really? Venezuelans Do not need food stamps because they’re too busy trying to find any food at all. China engaged in suppression of information about covid-19 because of their paranoia about the losing face just as socialists everywhere worry about losing control of their own propaganda. Socialism always, always suppresses opposition, usually violently, because their whole theory of existence requires socialism not be as evil as individualism. Turns out they are even worse as remedying social ills than the people they blame for them. They can’t afford to let slip the smallest grip on the people lest the people think to notice.

Actually though, while I agree that Venezuela has some problems.
Hugo Chávez Was democratically elected. He actually did do a lot for the poor people of Venezuela. Not like there were not extreme problems. But before Chávez, it was even worse for poor people there. As far as I can understand, the problems escalated when Chávez died. His successor was even worse of a dictator, that and plummeting crude prices sent the nation into turmoil. As it would have any nation dependent on oil profits… Actually though it is true, that if Venezuela would have invested in local food production, and created some factories producing simple goods, they would have been much better off. It seems like they heavily relied upon a single source of revenue.. oil. When it plummeted it sent shock thru the nation…

Despite all though. Not saying Chávez was a saint, or that I agree with his tactics.. just that he actually did do a lot of good for the very poor people of Venezuela.. actually.

While socialism may largely benefit the poor, in the end it benefits society as a whole. What’s better? Socialist prisons? or socialist education? I vote Education.. When the poor are lifted up, crime rates go down. Capitalism has its perks, but it’s not complete without a little bit of free cheese. Even Adam Smith said that there must be a certain amount of Free cheese involved in a Health Capitalist society.. (ok he didn’t say it exactly like that..lol)

Also, on another note, everyone talks about Venezuela, and all its failures. And there is often very little talk of another country in South America that is tremendously successful. Uruguay…
Uruguay has a thriving middle class, excels at education, has excellent welfare programs, and is fairly wealthy and seems to be thriving. Coined as the Switzerland of South America. It’s brimming with success. They also have a thriving independent And open media.. What about their SUCCESS? Let’s just put the blinders on here in America and create a prison police welfare driven state instead… great!

Compared to many countries in South America, Uruguay has done well. This is in large part due to a massive effort in effective Social programs. A right leaning president just got voted in, so we will see what happens, but even though he leans right, as far as I understand he still a member of a socialist party. So we will see what happens .. No place is perfect, but Uruguay is pretty close. They have a much more balanced home to work life compared to America. Awesome affordable health care, and really Nice beaches. My point is though, that they are successful in large part because of their socialist programs.. Bolivia too, a success story. Everyone balks at Venezuela, but there are several countries in South America that are successful thru socialist programs.

If you are incarcerated, I guarantee the last thing you care about is reforming society outside the prison walls, no matter if you have been ‘reformed’ or otherwise. Hell, you only have anecdotal evidence as far as what is happening outside the prison walls. The ONLY factor you would vote for is who is most likely to reduce your sentence. Ever heard the saying ‘the inmates running the asylum’? Prison labor is an entirely different issue, and I did not make any comment on that.

No but voting on freedom is. Individualists want the freedom to work for themselves. Socialists can not allow that. Socialists take the relatively small percentage of individual failures as proof that people need to be protected and fed when the reality is that socialism is most happy when there are no visible examples to compare. So socialism ignores and disappears their own homeless, addicted failures and dresses their rich powerful in ordinary clothes so everything looks equal. https://qz.com/1807826/hong-kong-bookseller-gui-minhai-sentenced-to-10-years-by-china/ This is what socialism has to do to survive. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_Vietnam

From the California Peace Officer Association :

“On April 4, 2019, the District Court issued a partial stay of its injunction concerning Section 32310. Specifically, the Court stated that “the State of California and law enforcement agencies therein will be free to re-start the enforcement of Calif. Penal Code § 32310 (a) and (b) which currently prohibits, among other things, any person in the state from manufacturing, importing into the state, offering for sale, giving, lending, buying, or receiving a firearm magazine able to hold more than 10 rounds (as defined by Calif. Penal Code § 16740). This will continue until the appeal proceedings conclude or the stay is modified or lifted.” The Court, however, stated that “the State of California and the law enforcement agencies therein will remain enjoined (or prevented) from enforcing Calif. Penal Code § 32310 (c) and (d) which would have criminalized the simple possession of a firearm magazine able to hold more than 10 rounds and required the disposing of such magazines.”

“As noted in our prior Client Alert on this case, there currently is a dispute within the legal community concerning the ultimate effect of a broadly-worded injunction in a non-class action lawsuit filed in federal court, such as the one issued here in the Duncan case. As such, you should consult with your legal counsel to determine your agency’s actions with respect to the District Court’s injunction concerning Section 32310.”

I’m not gloating, just advising people not to take your terrible legal advice.

Not everybody wants to get arrested in a risky attempt to make case law favorable to the military-industrial complex.

“Haberman is currently wanted for possession of an illegal machine gun, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of high capacity magazines, and possession of controlled substances for sales.” Do you really think that the high capacity magazine was the prevailing charge?

As I quoted from the CPOA:
“As such, you should consult with your legal counsel to determine your agency’s actions with respect to the District Court’s injunction concerning Section 32310.”

The booking report does not show a CPC 32310 charge. So, despite the press release, it was not a charge he was booked on.

Cool, looks like machine guns are legal now, too! Tell all your buddies, the police can’t arrest you for machine gun possession if you declare yourself a maritime vessel!
