Suspect Arrested in Yesterday’s Attempted Bank Robbery in Arcata
This is a press release from the Arcata Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On Friday February 21, 2020, at approximately 10:21 am, an attempted bank robbery occurred at the Umpqua Bank Downtown Arcata branch. The suspect fled on foot prior to receiving any money. The Arcata Police Department, with the assistance of the public, the Humboldt State University Police Department, Humboldt County Department of Adult Probation and the FBI Fortuna Field Office, was able to identify the suspect as 18-year-old Arcata resident, Jacob Dylan Cutler Richards.
At approximately 6:47 pm, Richards was taken into custody by APD, without incident, as he left a residence in the 1200 block of L Street in Arcata. Richards was booked in to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the charge of attempted robbery.
This remains an on-going investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to contact APD Communications at 707-822-2424 or the APD Tip Line at 707-825-2588.

I made the above comment about this person’s physical appearance in a lame attempt to introduce levity, but it was a major fail. No matter what anybody does which gets reported in a crime story, that person is something if not everything to someone, and my comment hurt the family.
I am truly sorry to the subject of the story and his family. I should know the power of this medium and that words have power and therefor should not be so casually and callously tossed out as I did.
