Welcome to moral relativism and its consequences.

You think the driver was a member of an uncontacted Amazonian tribe? Maybe striking pedestrians and running away is a coming-of-age ritual for them? Sorry, I don’t think you don’t know what moral relativism means.

Welcome to “rugged individualism” and “me first.”

This has been happening since cars were invented. Human assholiness is nothing new. There were undoubtably hit an run chariot accidents in Rome.

How about blaming the person, instead of some drug?

Cars kill people, knives kill people, guns kill people. Environmental control of government dependent humans is the answer.
Just remember, government cheese only comes in one flavor, there is no choice of options. Go Bernie!!!!

Seriously, WTF you know it’s one thing of hit n run on another vehicle happens all the time. What the hell is happening now? It takes a whole lot more than a body man to repair damage to a human than it does a fender. How the fuck can one even sleep at nite after having crashed into another pedestrian and runnin?

Part of it might be the high cost of insurance after an accident that causes injury, but these action are totally knee jerk reaction actions.. They really take the risk of getting id’d..that could really cost them.

Well, it’s 10:15 on Friday Night.

IMHO: Driver possibly loaded on dope/booze/meth and also could be either no license or suspended.

If you operate your life on that perspective, reckon it makes sense to run.

Yes, because only drivers are impaired at 10:15pm, and pedestrians never are…

Disgraced former planning commission officer Kevin McKenny owns a large, abandoned greenbelt property on Lucas that he has allowed to become an active homeless camp, probably the largest in Myrtletown. There are disassociated individuals walking on Lucas all the time now.

Hit a bum and keep on cruising ?
Hmmm… it might come down to that in the future… or maybe the future is already here ?

What happened to not only stopping, but walking towards traffic, looking both ways before you cross, or walking with a flashlight or reflectors? One can be fatal, the other a slap on the wrist unfortunately.

Back in the day, Lucas was basically used as an unsanctioned drag strip, might still be today, who knows. Hopefully that the hit and run driver is caught, and the pedestrian heals fully from their sustained injuries.

The only vehicle related fatality near Lucas St, that I know of, was some time in the 80’s when a vehicle full of teens decided to do a high speed run down Lucas, and with the vehicle being unable stop at the Harris street stop sign, and crashed into a retaining wall at a Harris St residence, killing a young female teen riding in the car.

I remember that. A young man with the last name of Seven, or something similar, I believe was the driver. Spent time in juvie but don’t think he got anymore time than that.

Actually, Lucas connects with Harrison not Harris.

I tried to correct the error, but Kym’s website is a hit and miss when it comes to post editing, and my original post was left unedited.

It is not inconsistent for me- it never works. I simply copy the post with the error, delete it then repost with the corrections. A PITA and sometimes not worth the effort. But that’s the only way.

I think it was early 90’s like 91 or 92. One of my classmates in grade school’s , sister was in the vehicle as a passenger. Broke her back and legs in the accident and spent about 8 months in the hospital.

The driver ended up serving time for manslaughter. It was quite a sad and heartbreaking incident for almost everyone and their families. That i knew at the time.

Thanks for the info, and l seem to have lost track of time on that one, I’m sure that I had a discussion with my daughter about the incident, who would be in her teens at that time, and about being prudent on who she rode with.

The driver was not aware he struck anybody. He would half stopped if he new there was a walker strike. Let’s not hang this guy for not calling for help for not knowing what happened. It was a honest misteak.

If he wasn’t aware of hitting someone–then he/she shouldn’t be driving..

Do you know the driver? You should probably encourage them to turn themselves in an explain the situation.

Hope pedestrian is ok.

This is not a comment about this situation but in general the solution is to slow down.

Especially at night, in an area where pedestrians habituate or in inclement weather.

Slow down.

Also there are few side walks in the area so walking in the road is common. I do not know whether it is outside Eureka city limits or not.

It is outside the Eureka city limits, the center dividing line on Harrison Ave is the dividing line between Eureka and Humboldt county.

There is unobstructed sidewalk down one side of the street, although it does have some face-slappin’ blackberry vines.

Most pedestrians I see don’t have the the slightest clue to their vulnerability.
They lack the basic guarded & skeptical countenance that translates into perception, in a “on street”scenario.
