CDFW: Anglers’ Fish Report Cards Due by Last Day of January
Fishing Report Cards Due Soon
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) reminds anglers that Jan. 31, 2020 is the due date for turning in steelhead, sturgeon and north coast salmon report card data.Information collected from sport fishing report cards provides CDFW biologists with important data necessary to monitor and manage California’s diverse recreational fisheries, including preparing recommendations for sport fishing seasons and limits that allow for sustainable levels of take. This science-based management helps to ensure healthy populations of fish for future generations.
Anglers are required to return their report cards even if they lost their report card, they did not fish or they did not catch any fish. Cards should be reviewed carefully for accuracy prior to submission.
There are two ways to meet the mandatory angler reporting requirement. Online reportingthrough the CDFW website is easy, fast and free, and includes instant confirmation that the report has been received and accepted.

The Steelhead cards don’t do jack crap except bring in more revenue.
Exactly. They are disguised as restoration funds. The runs keep getting worse on the north coast. No hatcheries, no squawfish eradication, no nothing for us. To hell with these cards. Everybody lies about fishing success anyway. It’s just more unnecessary fees and paperwork.
The whole idea of these report cards does nothing for the fish populations. Too many areas along the rivers to fish without being caught by the Green Team, and no card needed. They take your money, and do nothing to improve the rivers so fish can travel back to their grounds to breed. I have lived here all my life, and nobody seems to want to clear the debris from the streams so the fish can travel upstream. Where are the Save the Eel Groups, or Epic Groups when help is needed like this. Home making highway 101 protest signs I guess.
I have had a game warden on the Eel tell me directly that they don’t care about the steelhead report cards. I don’t blame them, because I would guess any data reported by citizens is borderline useless due to accuracy concerns. That said, they should probably just be open about the fact that it’s a program strictly for revenue. I think most would be fine paying extra for salmon and steelhead, because they do require significant extra conservation measures.
Wait until you get spanked for not turning in your report like the deer hunters do.
Isn’t that a salmon?
