HSU Jazz Orchestra Playing Big Band Music at Fulkerson Recital Hall on Saturday

Please join the HSU Department of Music and band leader Dan Aldag as they present a great evening of Big Band music featuring the HSU Jazz Orchestra on Saturday, December 14th at 8:00 p.m. in Fulkerson Recital Hall. The Jazz Orchestra is playing Charles Mingus’s “Nostalgia In Times Square”, arranged by Ronnie Cuber for the Mingus Big Band; trumpeter Andrew Henderson is featured on “Stablemates” by Benny Golson, which he wrote for the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band; “Mofongo de Mama” by Michael Philip Mossman; “Brown Shuffle” by Lars Erik Gudim, first recorded by the Oslo Groove Company; “So Danco Samba” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, arranged by Mark Taylor, and featuring Mikel Mayorga on vocals; “Chacafrik” by the Argentinian composer and pianist Emilio Solla, and featuring Matt Wardynski on alto sax; “Blue Yonder” by the Canadian composer Christine Jensen; “Voyage” by Kenny Barron, arranged by John LaBarbera; and Jelly Roll Morton’s 1926 classic “Black Bottom Stomp”, adapted for big band by Jaxon Stock. All of this terrific music for only $10 General, $5 Child, and FREE for HSU Students with ID.
