The Mateel Community Center’s annual membership meeting is Nov.19th at the Hall, 59 Rusk lane in Redway.

We’ll start with a potluck at 5:30, please bring a snack to share, the meeting begins at 6 pm. Come and hear oral reports about this last years activities at the community center. It’s been a pretty good year and we are looking forward to an even better year in 2020!

In the last 2 years the MCC has paid down our debts by approximately $250,000, thanks to earned income, generous donations and appreciated debt forgiveness.

We have applied to the Humboldt Area Foundation for a loan that would pay the remainder of our debt. With a strategic plan in place for making monthly payments and a goal to eliminate all debt in less than 5 years.

There has been numerous upgrades at the Hall with the PA and lighting being improved and the electrical system has been updated (special thanks to Ted Sloan and Jason Goldstein).

We now have a regular scheduled youth program every Friday 3-6, thank you Tiphane for bringing the TRY program.

We are reaching out for nominees to fill three open board seats. One current board member is running again. The community center needs members to run for the board of directors and to help move the Mateel forward.

Nominees must have a history of at least one prior year as a member. Anyone can join at the meeting and vote in the election. Ballots will be mailed on December 3rd. Returning ballots must be postmarked by January 3rd. Ballots will be authenticated and counted with a third party representative on January 10th.

We hope you join us and participate in your community center!

Sincerely,

The MCC board of directors

Give us, give us, give us, give us, give us, give us some more!

Your very own exclusive private “community” clubhouse… No golf clubs needed!

Admission to the meeting: $5… And a dish for the “pot” luck.

The Mateel Community Center staggers on!!

Well, I actually think that they should do like SHCHD, hire some consultants to cram through an election to increase property taxes, to pay for the ever more diamond-encrusted lifestyle that the Mateel Exclusive Private Gated-Community Club for Really Righteous Big Pot Farmers (MEPGCCRRBPF)! Yeah, they can go down to the river, get the homeless guys registered to vote at 59 Rusk Lane, in Redway, check the box to “Vote By Mail”, and then have an official representative of MEPGCCRRBPF vote for the tax for all the homeless guys, in the time honored tradition of SHCHD, and then the MEPGCCRRBPF will be funded indefinitely, and the MEPGCCRRBPF will be able to get REALLY big loans to build a “New Community Center” for all the up and coming “small but want to be really bitchin’ huge just like the board of the MEPGCRRBPF farmers”, and the cycle will be complete!
Vote for the new tax! Why not? And who the heck cares about the $5 admission, if you can’t afford it, just leave!

The Whole MC Deal failure to communicate with the community and those you owe money. This debt should have been resolved years ago with the ability to throw big parties and benefits for their own good. Now because they have not communicated with a lot of the people you owe money made the whole Community upset and could be hard to get anybody to participate in anything. Don’t get me wrong the community wants to have Mateel Center just doesn’t like the way its being run. Although they have made great strides to lower their debt they have not paid their taxes which are accumulating huge amounts of penalties. The membership meetings are really important and if it was run properly they would be lots of people there and would be a good time for everyone.

A “Pretty Good Year”…

Or was it my C.U.D.?

New Board Members, remember: Standards, Service, Accountability, Responsiveness.

Serving yourself, is easy, serving the community, takes honest, sober, sensible and reasonable people. The Mateel has to run like a business, while being an actual NPO.

Good luck, people are watching…

Community is valuable. Feel free to stay home haters. Thank goodness the Mattel is getting back in the position we need. Staying home hating is cheap though. It’s your best option if you are as bitter as you sound. Thanks Daryll- sawyer

This is the attitude that got us into the separation push everybody away. Mateel Community Center was built by many hands from all walks of life. Believing that everybody mattered. A place to share in Southern Humboldt bounty and good times.
