Donors Gave $7 Million to Humboldt State University Over the Past Year

Over the most recent year, thousands of donors gave $7 million to the Humboldt State University Foundation in support of students and programs.

The generosity of Humboldt donors created opportunities, supported basic needs, and expanded the reach of programs, helping ensure more students can achieve their education goals. Gifts included a $2 million grant to launch HSU’s RN-to-BSN nursing program.

Fully 1,130 of donors were new to giving to the HSU Foundation. In addition to the generosity of parents, community members, and other supporters, 2,190 HSU alumni gave back to their alma mater.

The HSU endowment grew to nearly $32 million and was able to distribute more than $1.1 million for scholarships and programs.

Thanks to donors, 560 students received support through scholarships and awards.

Nearly $2 million was given to student support programs. The Hearst Foundations made one such award, with $100,000 for student basic needs programs. These programs include new efforts to provide emergency housing and other adversity support, scholarships for low-income and underserved students, health care access, and expansion of affordability programs, such as laptops on loan.

The impacts of donor generosity expanded beyond campus, helping strengthen the regional health care workforce. For example, St. Joseph Health’s $2 million grant drove the launch of Humboldt’s RN-to-BSN nursing program. An endowment created through a $250,000 gift from Superior Region Mental Health Workforce Education and Training Partnership will support Humboldt’s online Social Work programs and expand the workforce of behavioral health professionals in rural and indigenous communities.
