Eureka’s Public Works Employees Raised $8,400+ for Humboldt Community Breast and Gyn Health Project
This is a press release from the City of Eureka:
On Thursday, November 7th, the City of Eureka’s Public Works employees took to the streets and raised over eight thousand, four hundred dollars for the Humboldt Community Breast and GYN Health Project (BGHP). All of the Department’s Crews, including Water Distribution, Waste Water Collections, Code Enforcement, Building, Streets, Planning and others contributed to the effort. The event was originally scheduled in October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but public safety power shutoffs conducted by PG&E delayed it.
When informed of the donation amount collected, BGHP Executive Director Rose Gale-Zoellick said, “Thank you to everyone who staffed the event. Their positive spirits encouraged our generous community to donate. This is a huge donation to our small nonprofit.” When asked how the money will benefit the organization, Gale- Zoellick explained, “The funds raised will be used for BGHP’s patient navigation program that offers patient education about cancer; consultations with our physician medical consultant; explanations about treatment options in easy-to-understand language, as well as helping patients access needed care.”
The City of Eureka intends to make this an annual fundraising event. Director of Public Works Brian Gerving said, “The amount of money donated by the citizens of Eureka and Humboldt County is inspiring. We look forward to conducting this event annually with the goal of increasing the amount raised every year.”
