Eureka Police Department Parking Enforcement Switching to Electronic Tickets Tomorrow

This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department:

Starting Monday, November 18, 2019, Eureka Police Department Parking Enforcement will implement tickets printed from an electronic handheld device instead of handwritten tickets. The upgrade is the next phase of a process to modernize the Parking Section. Currently the device will only be utilized by Parking Enforcement staff. Patrol Officers will continue to utilize yellow handwritten tickets.

Tickets can be paid on-line the same day the ticket is issued through the parking website, www.paymycite.com/eureka. As always, fees can be paid in person, over the phone or by mail to Eureka Police Department, 604 C St. Eureka, CA 95501.

There should be no service or convenience fee for paying online. I suspect that the website isnanthird party, private business which profits from this somehow.

There is a cost to online payment services. Since the online payment is a convenience for the offender, why should law abiding taxpayers cover the aggregate cost? The offenders have the option to pay over the phone or in person without the additional 3rd party fee.

As if there isn’t a cost to paying over the phone or in person?

No additional cost to the government as the structure already exists. The trouble is that fees for card users are normally charged to the business who just includes that cost in their prices. So you pay for that service whether you pay cash or not. As long as the government is on a legal mandated fee schedule, they can’t just add that cost in.

“Why should law abiding taxpayers cover the aggregate cost?” Why should tax payers period cover the aggregate cost of an electronic ticket system? Do you realize how much we just paid for something we don’t even need?

More taxes for those who work! (So we can privilege those who don’t) if you drive and hold a job we will get you! If you wonder the streets high on drugs flipping car handles for something to steal so you can pawn it for more drugs to put in your free needles while throwing your trash on the ground than we will reward you. Ahhhhhh California. Liberal run since 2005

Just like there should be a fee for parking all day around the police department. Oh yes, they don’t get tickets anywhere around there and now it is free parking in that area, but don’t park around the courthouse because they will be there first thing in the morning to begin ticketing.

The craziest new fad in parking tickets in larger cities are the smart meters that reset when you pull away. So if you pay for several hours and leave after 45 minutes the meter resets itself to 00:00, so municipalities can get paid for like 17 hours of parking in an 11 hour billing period.

All of the government agencies use third party billing which charges a fee. It’s a minuscule amount compared to the fine.
Don’t worry about it and park properly next time. 🙂

You seem to be missing the point. We should not be compelled by law to do business with third party, private businesses. The proportion of fee/fine is not the issue at all. I have never received a parking ticket in Eureka, not once. I did successfully appeal a parking ticket from Acrata once.

Do you work for the police department, or maybe the company who profits from this?

Rural mail is delivered by independent contractor. Blue Cross manages Medicare on California. Most government offices contract for construction, janitorial services and landscaping. They take vehicles to repair shops much of the time and buy gas from -gasp- gas stations. The State contracts for building roads and bridges. Etc, etc, etc.

You are way too late to notice and object that what is routine

Really?

The article says you can ‘As always, fees can be paid in person, over the phone or by mail .” Your are not required to pay an addition charge but you can if it’s convenient.

Park where you belong, and move before the time is expired, and you will not get a ticket. People that abuse the parking rules that ticket gun is coming for you!

^ Martin is absolutely correct! Park legally and you won’t get a parking ticket.

Bad parking is second only to extremely bad driving in Eureka. I nearly get run over in the sidewalk every single day by homicidal drivers. Pickup and SUV maniacs live to target pedestrians. They also park wherever the hell they want. A couple of weeks ago a tow truck driver parked his rig to do laundry. The back end completely covered the sidewalk. Blocking a sidewalk is illegal. These monsters of fuel guzzery deserve $1000 tickets.

And Prius’s do no wrong right Juan? Your comment stinks of liberalism. Bashing a tow truck driver? Really? Who do you think gets rid of illegals parkers and bad drivers? Non winning, just whining. God I hope a Democrat takes office so everyone can finally STFU and stop complaining. PS, the only change it will bring is worse, but I won’t complain, I’m just gonna be laughing. See you in 2020!

Juan, you are right. The driver’s in this town are hell on wheels. Lived here since 1966, and it seems to get worse every year. But I would also like to compliment all the excellent drivers in town. Wished there were more of them.

I’d like to see vehicles parked blocking the sidewalk, including those with 1 or more wheels on the sidewalk ticketed.

Ironically, some of those drivers are the same people who complain about bicyclists and pedestrians in the street!

You know I have never had my walking on a side walk disrupted by a parked car while I have had some trouble with bicyclists riding on sidewalks. Hmm… Maybe there are arrogant bastards on bicycles as well as in cars. Just a thought.

Revenue enforcement team. It’s doubtful those tickets are lawful without a signature.

I suspect they are as lawful as almost any esignature. Everything the government does electronically has security and authorization software. I used to sign documents for the government committing it to pay buckets of money but that stopped when everything became electronic and pins became rountine. The government pen requisition dropped significantly.

“Everything the government does electronically has security”

LOL

That’s why all we’ve heard these past three years is how “Russians” are supposed to have “hacked” what is risibly referred to as “our Democracy.”

‘Tickets can be paid on-line the same day the ticket is issued through the parking website”

LOL Funny how there’s no mention of actually contesting these attempts at extortion. Not as if that would do any good at all, since Judges, Kops and prosecutors all eat from the same filthy bowl.
