Celebrate Zero Waste Day on Friday

Arcata City Council has proclaimed Friday, November 15 as Zero Waste Day. The City of Arcata is striving to reach zero waste every day and the encourages all community members to join in the effort.

The Environmental Services Department is excited to be partnering with the North Coast Co-Op, the Northcoast Environmental Center, Zero Waste Humboldt and Humboldt State University’s Waste Reduction and Resources Awareness Program (WRRAP) to celebrate Zero Waste Day.

They will be at the North Coast Co-Op, located at 811 I Street in Arcata, on Friday, November 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to present zero waste demonstrations and encourage members of the community to adopt or renew their commitment to zero waste principles. All are invited to attend.

The Environmental Services Department also encourages all community members interested in learning more about zero waste to attend Humboldt State University’s Fourth Annual Zero Waste Conference. The conference, hosted by WRRAP, takes place from Tuesday, November 12 through Friday, November 15 and will feature food, workshops, speakers, documentaries and more. I’d like to see the city focus on public dumping and trash throughout the town…I haven’t seen it this bad in 20 years…but I guess if it ends up on street corners, washed down drains, and in greenbelts it keeps it out of landfills.
