[UPDATE 9:20 p.m.] Two Fires Burning Near Samoa (Video)

A reader, Sophia Strong, sent us the above video showing the fires weren’t far apart.

UPDATE 8:52 p.m.: The fires were burning across the street from the T in Samoa near the Fairhaven power company according to Sophia Strong who took the video.

She also provided a map.

The red marks indicate roughly where the fires are burning.

UPDATE 9:20 p.m.: North Coast News was on the scene and interviewed with their kind permission, we’ve embedded the video below.

The Battalion Chief Troy Smith from the Samoa Peninsula Fire District confirmed that power lines were down at one of the vegetation fires. He agreed that it was odd there were two fires but suggested the possibility that there was a power surge that could have caused the blazes.

The fires are contained and firefighters are cleaning up.
