Looks like a double paste in the evacuations info.
It’s that time of year again… (fires, not double pastes)
Thank you! Fixed.
Plumas County aka Feathers County.
At the peak of the Sierra Nevada range, the multiple forks of the Feather River have formed a magnificent basin. Another one of the areas you have got to visit to appreciate it. The gold was heavy and abundant in the basin. Some logging still functions, and lots of cattle are grazed in the high elevation meadows.
It’s burned many times, at least three times that I can remember. There’s lightning in the air.
This was a beutiful over grown chunk of forest! I loved hanging out out and cutting there it was 1 of the most out of the way spots in the county!
This is awful& saddening.
Little to no logging up there in 20 yrs, this could of been slowed or even prevented to a lage part.
If it’s a healthy forest the fire will make it healthier.
Not to nitpick, but “east of Red Bluff” does not put this fire in a relative proximity. It’s closer to Nevada than it is anywhere along the I5 corridor.
Especially with a fire actually west of Red Bluff. East of Paradise is almost as accurate – east of Quincy would make more sense (one map says south of Susanville).
Spent much of my younger years at my family’s ranch right where this started. Many smaller fires over the years but this is catastrophic for the Indian Creek, Red Clover and Last Chance drainages. Spent 40 plus years in the fire service and know how tough this area is to access. Stay safe and pray for rain!
BC, thank you for fighting fires for 40 years!
Can anyone tell me if the Dixie valley road across from Lunker point (Frenchman’s) is in danger of the Walker Fire? Please and thank you!
“Honey Lake in Plumas County” – Honey Lake is in Lassen County.
And there a couple of towns between the Walker Fire and Honey Lake.
I was trying to give people in Humboldt County and the surrounding areas (which is who I write for) a basic idea of where the fire is by picking two landmarks I thought they could identify easily. I should have, however, have added some commas to make it clear that the fire is in Plumas County not Honey Lake.
So I’m currently staying in susanville, as of yesterday, the fire, is at 48,000 acres and 20% contained. It is southwest of susanville, along the 395 highway and Quincy. It has not destroyed any homes or taken any human lives. Most evacuated people are returning to their homes.
