Hey- Let’s celebrate our selling-out of our community to an out-of-area upstart company backed by funding from a New York City-based private equity firm!! Isn’t that what “community” is really about anyways? And while these large corporations pay fees to eradicate everybody too poor or unwilling to go along with the state corporatization take-over let’s welcome them as “friends”. Staying positive as they strip away everything we thought we had as special values…the rich become richer and everybody else becomes a wage slave. Yay!!! Yay for Gotham Green Partners and Yay! for Cronos Group and Yay! for internatonal investors we welcome into our county to take over future decisions and control!

So detail the costs of becoming permitted. There are constant complaints about it but the specifics are never mentioned.

Last civil liberties meeting John ford ( planning -building director)admitted he’s seeing people pay 100k for permitting .He also said that’s not reasonable. He clarified some do it yourself applicants permit for 10 k .

The permitting process in Humboldt IS A JOKE. Does anybody know how many employees they have working on permits? 3 ? It must be a skeleton crew.

Those people who are paying 100,000 in permit fees are making 2-4 million a season dumping all there “permitted” weed on the black market. That’s some dam good financial investment vs gain reward if you ask me! PS. That’s UNTAXED cash money btw.

Cash up front…..125k for 10,000 sq ft mixed light cultivation permit. 40k for extraction equipment. 400k for compliant building in cannabis zone. 52k for micro permit to county. 17k for micro permit to state. 30-90k for packaging and state compliant labels, testing and various other materials. This is assuming you owned the land if not add another 250k to 500k if you do not. Then you pay taxes and you get no write-offs and cannot bank or get loans.

Cash up front……Just want a small outdoor cultivation permit 35k if you do it yourself 85k if you use a consultant. You will spend another 35k being nickled and dimed by the water board, building and planning, tribal assessments, CEQA…etc.

After all if that you still might not get your permit and no the money does not get returned to you. Then the county will want you to fix the road, paved they prefer yet AP road does not meet county standards.

// “125k for 10,000 sq ft mixed light cultivation permit” //

Details of this permit?

I’m not aware of any County that charges this for a permit and the state certainly doesn’t.

In my county that permit would be $6,250 (which wouldn’t have to be paid until the next year to allow for harvest and sale) and the State license would be either $13,110 or $22,785 (paid in advance) depending on which mixed light permit you get.

Not just the permit, sorry, I added roughly the cost to be compliant, water tanks, pond, culvert, driveway or road modifications. The permit is only a part of the cost if you grow in the hills.

They do not want us growing in the hills. So their solution is to say you gotta fix a road even though we let ya build yourself home and the road was fine. Now if ya wanna grow the herb we are responsible for them not following their own codes and forcing us to be up to code or no growing the herb. Well, I mean no growing the herb for the California market there is still a big world out there that loves our herb be a shame not to provide wouldn’t you agree.

You obviously do not live in Humboldt. I should of had a 12 foot wide road with a two foot buffer on each side. The county cannot maintain AP up to code but I shoulda already had this done. 200,000+ gallons of water storage I should of had. The county does not hold that much storage for humans yet I have to for plants. lol, these are just a few of the things required.

Not everyone has 10’s of thousands of storage, or 100’s of thousands.. or wells.. Some may have exempted springs, like I, but the Water Hoarders don’t want to reckonize our private property rights.. Not one other agricultural product in the whole world requires water storage for the entire season, on top of thier estimation of water storage being completely fabricated, overextensive and based on arbitrary information… I have enough storage to stop using the surface by August, and don’t use until first rains… always have…Then ridiculous “waste discharge fees” every year..? Ridiculous overreaching expensive testing requirements… HairRipper for sure…
Same with the roads and culverts..
Then there is metric, track and Beast up every last little plant and tiny gram of herb.. Then complete over control of packaging.. Then extreme over taxing with 0 write offs… NAW seriously F all that noise. I will take the chances with the true Original FreeMarketers instead.. It’s is seriously liberal over control at its very finest.. And I consider myself to be a “liberal”… but yeah, California complete Micro Managing Fing doo Gooders.. Live and Let Live..

This is true, a permit for me cost very little, i bought 20,000 gallons worth of water tanks for 8k and had to build some fencing. I also had to get AG exempt permits for my greenhouse and pay waterboard etc.
I have a 10k sqft grow and i pay about 16k a year to maintain the permit. that includes state and county taxes, waterboard fees, money for my CPA and more. Basically don’t use a consultant unless you don’t want to understand the permitting process and wish to pay huge amounts of money for paperwork that’s no harder than a 8th grade book report.

You are wrong, you do get write offs.

Please understand IRS 280e.

It allows for write off just not of the actual inventory of cannabis or for uses such as marketing or selling. You can still claim all normal farm deductions and deduct, labor, materials, dirt, nutrients, greenhouses, etc. Plus you can add in depreciation and any lease agreement you have to rent the land.

IRS 280 effect dispensaries the hardest, when you hear about cannabis businesses saying IRS 280e is hard its mainly on dispensaries, growers don’t get it so bad.

PS. Ive filed 5x years worth of federal taxes on my cannabis farm so i know this info!

You are wrong. It is not one size fits all youngin. I do not see anything about you needing to widen a road which is not a tax write-off. 20,000 gallons, lol, I already had 35k they made me install another 110,000 (shared water sorce) again not a tax write off. Is the county requiring you to hire a civil engineer to fix a bridge that has been used for over 40 years and not a tax write-off. How many times have you been to the planning department cause I think they are gettin ready to clean out a cubicle for me.

I do not buy soil only a few amendments and cow chips (for a # of bud) the drier the better. I am the laborer, no greenhouse I use mammas. We all wish it was as easy as apparently you but the reality is it is not. Instead of telling people how easy it was why don’t you get out more in other parts of this county. Maybe help an old timey out and expand your limited knowledge of what is occurring around you. I do.

lol, just got back from So Cal after touring a big dispensary in Santa Ana off of the 55 freeway. It’s a two story building with a huge billboard perfect marketing spot while the herd sit in traffic, musta cost millions. Out walks I would assume owner or corporate bigwig in his carribian gangsta fashion with gold chains carrying his murse being escorted to his Mercedes-Benz ML420. It was a disgusting sight and a beautiful reminder from the universe this war is not over.

Grow, grow that dank Humboldt goodness. We have a lot of positives especially with the CDC getting involved with the vape pens. This will hopefully end the pesticides used in our hills for good. Making extractors only use properly grown herb and finally turning away crap material.

LL is correct — this company is totally reliant on good press currently (and is certainly winning the ‘good press’ war). If this is true, every grower in the triangle should see your documentation via the media.

If true — put up. Don’t let them win the ‘we’re all fuzzy good’ PR battle – they wouldn’t deserve it. If it’s not true, then you’re a loser anyway so I can’t GAF.

FK paid everybody out for product they took on. Even product they never sold, which wasn’t much and was only trim for the most part, but still. They cut a check for ALL OF IT.

These stories don’t make any sense. Either this is a huge conglomerate with bajillions of dollars from satan himself, or they’re refusing to pay small farmers for a few pounds from a year ago.

Really, it can’t be both, now can it?

What is wrong with corporate investors? Its noty like theyre going to be putting nicotine in your weed. When studies start finally show that weed does cause illnesses as well, are you going to blame Corporate weed then? Stop chasing an argument. Farmers need business folk most of the time because they can’t do it, theyre too busy. Or maybe shouldn’t have blown all those 4k # pounds on trips to Costa Rica or South America. Could have saved it all, and not needed corporate investors. But alas, most farmers have blown their money on bullshit the past decade and now want to blame the man. That’s why you need business people.

No AP is not even a road you are correct. However, I need to pave and widen my road in order to get a permit. I know others that have to build a bridge to get to said road (guess it’s not AP out there, but anyway) my place is off AP. Now all of a sudden (2years to remediate their code violations) you gotta be up to code or no growing. The bridge is apparently not in code violation if you are growing, farming, construction or any other small business as long as you don’t wanna grow herb. Grow all the tomatoes and zucchini ya want drive whatever heavy equipment ya want for your small business no road code violations anymore they just magically disappear….. Traditional Market also has no road code violations.

It’s to late…..they cannot reduce the canopy size. Allow us to sell to other states. Let us get loans bank and take tax write-offs. The one thing they can do is work to bring us together and allow small farms to compete in the corporate market but alas they failed at that as well.

So, let them stay, Steve is doin a fine job representing (needs to loosen up some on the strong environment requirements, happy medium Steve, please) as for the rest it is better to know thy enemy. Lines have already been drawn over the past year and a half. I think everyone knows who’s who and what a who should do for whom. I say we maintain cause we are kicking corporates ass. A few more years they will start cannabolizing each other after investors are after them with torches and pitchforks.

Grow your own! Anybody can grow cannabis, and anywhere… Maybe not as fabulous as L.L.’s, but probably acceptable. Take the money out of the “cannabis industry” and it will surely become more sensible, and much less attractive to Altria, and Flow Canna…

On Facebook, check out my investigative article, called “Flow Kana’s Deal with the Devil”.

It’s about Flow Kana’s links to Wall Street’s dark money, Gotham Green Partners, and their co-founder and managing partner, Jason Adler.

He is pictured here.

Through Mr. Adler, Flow Kana also has links to CMO cannabis biotech companies, Pebble Labs and Trait Biosciences.

Mr. Adler also has links to Big Tobacco at The Cronos Group.

The Cronos Group’s main investor is Altria, formerly known as the Phillip Morris Companies. They have a portfolio of cigarette brands, including Marlborough.

Mr. Adler is also an investor, and sits on Cronos’ Board of Directors.

My article has been vetted. National media will soon be reporting it.

Please share the article with our community of small, independent, family cannabis farmers. On Facebook, my article already has 148 shares, since I posted it 48-hours ago.

I’m running for 1st District Supervisor at the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors. I hope I have your support.

Again, please share my article on social media.

Thank you.

It appears Eric Sklar of Fume and Napa County are having some difficulties.. in regards to Cannabis…Apparently there is a lot of opposition to cannabis cultivation in Napa Valley.. and understandably so.. Most of the Napa Ag. Space is planted to the hilt with grapes, and the only place would be to clear out MORE hillside land for Cannabis cultivation, and also compete with the labor resources in the valley, the Vinyards would definitely be advised to take precautions to allow Cannabis in the vicinity, as the Cannabis Neighbors can Sue the Vinyards for AG drift.. Actually I can’t imagine not having to use a tremendous amount of pesticides and Fungicides on Cannabis to even be any where near that amount of Viticulture! One Cannabis Cultivator.. could probably sue the entire valley.. for drift..lol..

Walked over to my woman and said “I had that stupid son of yours take out the trash and he brought me back 250 dollars.” She said, “yep, he’s mine you would of just takin the trash out without sayin a damn word to my father.” Years later found out the little b@stard actually got 50 not 25 dollars so I claimed him back.

When living in Isla Vista I used to purchase those elbows of shake. Tell your son “thanks” cause I made a killing on that.

Bammer, I have not heard that term in a long time. I still cannot wrap my head around the fact 90% of weed grown on 36 acres in prime AG land is for trim.

Yeah, 90% for trim.. Kinda sounds like a scam! Bammer.. lol.. yep, Reminisced from a few articles back. Admitted.. lol.. The concentrate market is huge right now! I agree w/ Mendo Mamma’s assessment, the trend among the younger crowds is ‘dab adventures’ and vaping.. still to many huge farms like that. I think they may be bound for a wake up call.. The markets big.. but it does have limitations.. IMO..

Also, Shak, Honestly I find it ironic that these big cultivators beilive That Over production of cannabis is the ticket, I mean one of the only reasons that say corn, soy or dairy overproduction is even remotely a living, or even profitable, at all is probably mostly due to gov. Subsidies.. and exports..While the market and demand for Cannabis is remotely high… it’s the opposite with cannabis.. as it’s heavily taxed and over regulated… But it will be interesting to see where all the chaos lands. It’s just most unfortunate the State And county have taken to hindering the small Cultivators, instead of assisting..

I couldn’t have said it better. Good points!
Plus, they’re lacking the human connection. I’d rather pay $3,000.00 per month for a happy worker who gets to spoil their family with birthday presents, food, shelter, and transportation, than to invest in automatic machines that constantly need repairs and/or upgrading. It felt ‘cold’, like as if the plants, red tape and money meant more than the human connection. They probably have a better balance than what they showed on ‘video’ day, but who knows. I find it strange that I would zero in on that particular aspect of it, but it is what it is. There should have been giggling people in white smocks and blue gloves with good music setting the rhythmic energy for the day. Nope. Just machines and two completely bored workers who badly needed to get up for a stretch and a dance. (did they even wear ipods?)

TY Shak. Corretemungo! With the cannabis, a machine is never ever going to give the human touch and spark needed to create the top of the line products! It is crazy, the direction the industry is headed, to another drab “work place”.. AI, make humans obsolete scenarios…And yeah, Music a must! Happy humans is what life is supposed to be about right? I notice that those aspect as well! It’s definitely a big change to the culture!

I think it’s about time to fire who ever is in charge of permitting and Code Enforcement and install someone who is dedicated to expediting permits in a timely manner, conducting site inspections in a timely manner, and following up on code violations in a timely manner. The conclusion many have come to is that there is something very wrong with the planning department. The frustration of people getting permits and people trying to stop really bad grows near them is mounting. Is it a budgeting problem? Does the planning dept just not give a shit? This snails pace is pissing a whole lot of people off and the Board of Stupidvisors act oblivious.

” Is it a budgeting problem?”

~that’s a deep, deep subject question. When it takes 12 months to spit out an Annual Financial Report, what do you think? It is NOT a “budgeting problem” in-the-meaning of ‘not enough’. On the contrary, the longer it takes to slowly churn out an annual report, the more time is moving along in ‘recruiting’ more personnel to the barracks- in spending the fly-paper theft thru taxation $, the sell-out of not only your own soul, but suck-in the people on your greedy-ass stupified view of “How it is.”

“Does the planning dept just not give a shit?”

It’s not on the Agenda. There was never any mention of logistics, of closure, of law, of people. Just persons and shall not Ordinances amended and re-written and spell-checked from Bi-annual to Biennial, by the foreign fungus among us.

“Board of Stupidvisors act oblivious.”

They are not acting. Their reality is so different, there’s really nothing to talk about.

It’s akin to the ‘immigration’ problem. Illegals wishing to become legals, but the OZ’s behind the desk jockies refuse to make the processing procedures smoother and faster. Meanwhile, the OZ’s behind the desk jockies demand pay raises, more enforcement and higher fines and fees, because the ‘crisis’ is just too much to handle.

Not sure what Flow Kana’s price to farmer is right now. But after testing, cultivation tax, and transport most Humboldt Distros are getting the farmer 11-1400. Great for the people who have been bleeding for the last several years. Still not traditional market prices but better than 800-1000.

I’ve sat with many entrepreneurs and large grow owners. We’ve sat and crunched the numbers six ways to Sunday. When you really break it down your taxes, your fees, supplies, staffing if you need it and everything else that you get taxed on that isn’t affiliated with cannabis is insane as well as inane. If you look at it that way folks are seriously making pennies on the dollar. The only person(s) who has any money in the canna industry are the ones that are filtering monies from other endeavors. Flo… 157 million dollars from a company started in 2017 I smell fish it sure is rotten.

Yes, you’re right, “legal” seems to be happy, happy at the pennies on the dollar scheme from the CBCC. Strange cannabists those “legalites”.

I sometimes sit and think about WHY so many decent folks decided to recruit the revenuers into the middleman position.
