Legal Cultivator Ripped off For 30 Pounds of Wedding Cake This Morning; $10,000 Reward for Information Leading to Return of the Product

Still from a surveillance video of a thief.

Still from a surveillance video of the thief.

Early this morning, a thief rode a mountain bike onto a permitted cannabis farm north of Fortuna in the Palmer Boulevard area and stole 30 pounds of the popular strain, Wedding Cake, which was packaged and ready for pickup by a distributor who had promised to pay $50,000. The thief also took a large amount of other product not yet packaged and weighed for sale.

There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to the return of the product.

“We’re right outside of the city limits,” the farmer told us. “We have a county-approved processing facility.” The facility is right beside their home, she told us.

According to her, the thief “first entered the property around our house about 2:50 a.m.” She and her son have seen tracks that they believe indicate that the thief rode a mountain bike onto their farm. But the thief avoided most of their cameras and they don’t have him on surveillance tape for most of the time he was in the area.

“When we first saw him, it looked like he was scoping [the property] out,” the cultivator told us. He disappeared and possibly left their farm for about 30 minutes and then returned and entered the processing facility which was unlocked. “It was 10 feet from our house,” the farmer explained. “We have a security gate.”

The camera captured the thief entered their processing facility about four this morning. He was wearing a mask, gloves and a black hoodie as well as what they believe are black canvas Converse skateboarder type shoes.

Once inside the building, the thief emptied out contractor bags full of trim and filled them with the turkey bags of Wedding Cake. “We grow indoor quality,” she said. He also took an unknown amount of other product.

The thief’s tracks were followed off the farmer’s property and through a neighbors onto Bryant Lane.

The farmer is hopeful that someone might be able to identify the thief, “He has a distinctive gait…At one point we could see his neck and he’s a white male.” She and her son believe that the man is about 5’8″.

“He had a very identifiable sweatshirt,” she pointed out. “You can see in his sweatshirt [front pocket] he has something very big.”

She also wants people to be on the lookout for the product which she believes is easily identifiable as it looks as if it were grown indoors.

If you have any information about the theft, please contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251.

Or this is a sweet plan to move to the traditional market and get 60 to 75k. Plus, bonus if cops bust someone with 30# of wedding cake who is average height they might get cops to give em an extra 30#s while putting blame on someone else. Worst case scenario is they have to pay the 10k reward, that’s a six digit profit 😁 Boom 3k a pound instead of 1600 to distributor. Doors unlocked and it looks like indoor the highest per pound product, just stating facts officer, lol, wanna see my video, lol. Like handing your keys to someone at a bus stop asking them to park your car for you.

On a side note is momma 50+ and is she single. If so, she need a night 😉 watchman?

Aww, this blows! I talked to her in June. She said her Wedding Cake normally tested around 35%. She and her family moved here from another state just to grow. They spent some serious cheese for their set-up and that killer view. Just a guess, but the other product may have been Mimosa. Sad.

Yea, but is she single, lol. They are all safe that is what matters. The door not being locked could be a blessing but it did not look like the thief had any violent intentions, knew what he wanted and took it.

Well I apologize for my accusations. This is a bit personal since one of the issues I have had to deal with the county is security. My argument that it is safer to keep product out on my property more so than a grow close to the city. The county disagrees as do some of the supervisors. My opinion of this theft and the counties belief will not change my opinion that it is safer in the hills but my accusation I agree is out of line and I appologize.

“Sweet plan”? It doesn’t make too much sense to me, but you are probably testing the product too much… 35% weed, or 35% crazy, it does smack of “inside job”…

sorry Kym you are confusing me. the sole thief did go straight to the spot after scoping to see if everyone was asleep then came back in about a half hour to see if any silent alarms were tripped. but yes my point about the door was a thief wouldnt normally risk shutting the door because of time and noise. my guess would be a friend of someone who worked there or more likely someone who has shut that door before. and i also dont know but i think that insurance wont pay (if you have insurance) if you dont lock your doors

Unlocked door to ANY structure these days? Valuable merch and the door is unlocked. Something’s not right. No sound alarm, just video so they can say: oh, look, here’s the video of the rip- off. Except no identifying frames. Bummer. OK, bye-bye all that work and expense. Electrical costs really add up on indoor crops. And it’s not “green.”

Imagine having sacks of money in a room that ‘s not locked and in a community swarming with rip-offs. Not getting it.

Probably drove there with his bike in the back of his car/truck and parked a short distance away. Rode his bike there so he couldn’t be heard. Rode back to his vehicle a drove away. And more than likely it’s someone they know or had visited there recently since he knew right where to go.

Lol! While they slept next door someone was stealing their dope.

Funny but scary on how complacent people get with permits.

Curious as to why they didn’t have a pitbull and their place wasn’t locked? Isn’t weed supposed to be kept under lock and key, out of reach of children?

Looks like a permit violation to me and they should be fined or have the permit revoked.

Kym- The permitted grows pay fees into a program to eradicate their neighbors. The permitted grows
then grow huge amounts of weed while watching their neighbors get abated and eradicated and say nothing. Then the permitted grows- most of them- sell their weed on the black market. The division was started by the permitted grows. I’m sorry that you see us all “on the same team” because we are not. That is a fiction that the permitted growers want to promote because they are concerned about our justified anger and frustration towards them! There is ONE permitted grower- in Mendocino, nobody not even one in Humboldt- who is making a stink about the police actions towards small mom n pop unpermitted growers. Casey is the only one stepping up. Until I see some Humboldt County permitted growers standing up for their neighbors who they have left behind to choke on their dust I will keep pointing this out. We are NOT on the same team! I do not pay to have you busted or abated- I never would. If anything the UNpermitted growers have kept the code intact and have been the better neighbor!

And dont forget time behind bars.
The billions of dollars everyone in the industry has made is the result of our hard work.

We have pledged our lives and fortunes to the cause.
When I say grower come lately, I’m talking about those who joined us after medical (post 1996).
Some of those folks are of the community now as well. But the vast majority dont comprehend what our community has sacrificed on their behalf.

Also, I don’t think it’s sowing the seeds of division to hold on to intellectual property, necessarily.. And think about it, under 215, I could go to a nursery and buy 100 clones if I wanted, Now under $64, I can ONLY buy 6… So, the permittes are also sowing division seeds by allowing such grotesque PRIVATIZATION of cannabis.. I mean as a small Pharmer, I always sold my extras to people who needed them and a little much appreciated extra revenue each year. And it has been fairly instrumental to my pharm, but also other pharms who may have had catastrophes or just a little late, or needed some variety.. ( I also gave quite a few away when people where in needed) Under 64 in order to sell ANY plants from your pharm you need a $5000 a year “nursery permit”. JUST to sell a few extras..
So um, I don’t think It’s aimed at division to hang on to ones genetics or extras… when the system is OBVIOUSLY jaded!

Actually, Kym, some unpermited growers do bad things, same with permitted growers.. However expressing dismay, or otherwise discontent with the fact that people signed up for these permits at the expense of thier neighbors, is not necessarily aimed to cause divisions..
I think is appropriate to clarify, and express dismay regarding policies that aim to hurt people. It’s also important that people who did sign up FOR the permits are aware of the position they are party to impossing on thier neighbors..

It’s a convent to excuse the notion, that general tax $$$ would be used for abatements and Raids wether one signed up or not.. However your appeal to Authority does not make it morally correct.. And the very truth, is that without the permit fees, the Abatements would be fairly unenforceable.. Also, the money for such huge multi-Adgency raids would not be as prevalent..

What can permitted growers do? NON RENEWAL!.. Stop paying into the shitstorm that is not only hurting Unpermited growers, but is posed at hurting small permitted Pharmers as well.. What they gonna really do?

Erge the country to allow small medical collectives

Also, write letters to the BCC and let them know, of objection, not only to the Abatements, but also anything that you think needs change, call and write them..

It’s not unreasonable to asses that the permit fees paid by Legal growers go to unreasonable abatements and huge multi-agency raids.. It factually Corrilates. Choosing to ignore facts or dismiss them does not make them untrue, the only caliper there is wether or not one agnolizes that fact or not.. For example..

I drive a car, I contribute to Clataclismic Climate Change that will wipe out someone’s house in a Hurricane one day… Am I going to stop driving my car.. Nope.. Am I going to try driving my car less or figure out other ways to address and assess my responsibility and contribution to the problem.. Yep.. I can admit that diving the vehicle, I am also responsible… If I didn’t drive a car would anything, anything at all change.. Probably not.. If enough people take responsibility, car pool, fight for carpool lanes, ride bikes more often, will it have an impact, absolutely..
Personally, I am not trying to Bash anybody for Driving the car, I just feel it is import people understand that the choices they make effect others..
I also am not implying I don’t support the bigger picture of Legalization. I do. However, I do not support how it’s being implemented.. I consence object.. I do not support 64 directly, It’s not truely legalization, it’s privatization.. big diff.. I don’t want any family to choose thier demise.. but you could also flip that phrase around to support the other Narrative.. Why should I choose my demise, for yours to be fine. We all could flip that around many different angles. The fact is, I am not paying to others demise, but others are directly contributing to mine.. Currently regulations surrounding Legalization is almost a death sentence for small family farms.. However, I also feel like these policies that have been implemented are bad for a lot of the small pharmers, legal or not, and I have always spoke to these measures, these laws and policies are bad for many, not just me or mine..
I understand wanting to free the Leaf for the bigger better future of all of Humanity. 64 is not going to get rescinded.. However, that doesn’t mean people have to accept the injustices perpetuated in its name..

Why haven’t we used the technology to make cars get 100mpg, it’s because the taxes collected on gas and how bloated government doesn’t want to be put on a diet.

I haven’t stepped into this debate in awhile. I feel as if Kym and I have nothing new under the sun to hash out but…. I can’t help but comment on the references to the greater good. Why don’t you ask how the greater good has treated any people who have been the pioneers of any industry? Or, even more stark of an example of how the greater good truth does not exist as it will always come at the expense of somebody is this: How about you ask the Native people of any land, in any country, how the greater good worked out for them? That statement is a farce, a misleading cop out. There is no such thing

I see your point, that was the reason I said “stark” example. It was meant to drive a point home, not to be one in itself. But as a rebuttle to your statement. Here is the military, deployed all the same in both situations, with people losing freedom, land, and livelihood in both situations. Those are the parallels, yes Native people were persecuted to a far greater, unfathomable extent, but the point remains. There is no greater good, thats a statement that has been used to manipulate the masses throughout history. Hitler used it to great success. Your “greater good” may be my “great demise” and vice versa.

The Transition must occur.

There’s nothing more consistent than selecting certain words to dogmatize. It’s been done for thousands of years. The Pharisees and scribes did it to the Torah, against whom Jesus rebelled. Later, clever Constantine the Great did that to the teachings of Jesus. The Scholastics did it to the works of Aristotle.

“and through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you.”
2 Peter 2:2-3. — A reality that is confining, constrictive, and claustrophobic.

“Medicine, law, business, engineering – these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life, but poetry, beauty, romance, love – these are what we stay alive for.” John Keating

In 1853 the prominent art critic, painter, and writer John Ruskin noted,
“The imagination is never governed. It is always the ruling Divine power.”

~as the external governing forces fall, an internal governing force emerges: the imagination. Unwilling to be governed . . . culture thrives. Boundaries and limits are unknown.

We must walk into the fog.

Kym Kemp,

Now would be a good time to reflect on what the genuine intentions are of the “legal”. It doesn’t sound wholesome to me. Do we really want millions of $$$ from out of country investors directing our local leaders through cash leverage?

You’re wrong Kym Kemp, all us cultivators don’t want to get along and be neighborly. I’ve read at least 20 articles quoting “legalites” as needing, wanting, and taking steps to eradicate the original cultivators. The real division is … nobody from the original side is paying enforcers to harm anyone, but the “legal” side are 100% all in for paying to harm me, ONLY because I won’t join the club. We’ve had ample time to comprehend Newsom’s madness.

This article highlights the current events of one of our homegrown “legalites”. $140+ million deal for the rights to boss, control, and direct who is friend or foe amongst the triangle’s cultivators. Of course, we should be grateful that somebody from here gets to make a big hit.

I’ve not heard anything in the way of help from “legalites” except when more money is better. I’ve heard too much hate and meanness.

Wreaking financial ruin upon small-scale cultivators through enforcement snitching should be recognizable to everyone. You say you like how Honsul runs the show. He openly advocates for brother against brother.

You know I haven’t sowed the division, the division is based upon fraud and deceit with a huge dose of dishonesty.

Like Kym said. I’m a registered Republican.

I did not vote for Obama, I voted for Ron Paul. In 2012 I abstained. In 2016 I abstained again.

Trump was an idiot from day 1; ” No draught” in California he said on his first visit here.

I’m not a fucking moron, we had a draught for 7 years.

I would not vote for another Clinton in office. As the Bush/Clinton back and forth was sickening.

I’m not happy with much in the party currently, and like many prominent Republicans, I’ll soon be dropping the party of hate and Nationalism.

As a disclaimer, what I said about Mexico paying for the wall is not true.

But I think it would be hilarious if they announced that.

And it would likely be built to keep white extremists out of Mexico. El Paso was a lesson.

I find AOC to be very exciting and inspiring and I’ll likely support her in the future.

I’m not locked down by any belief system. I’ll follow the facts of the issues as best as possible.

No one thinks the desire to go legal is a personal attack, we just see that it’s a choice for only the wealthy, and when you purchase safety, it come at our peril.

The black market economy overall will benefit from the busts. We will see the return of diesel grows. The legal market will continue to suffer from the greed of the dispensary owners and the tax man.

And if somehow you win, and eliminate unpermitted grows, this county will lose a staggering amount of income. We cant all become $15/hr laborers for the wealthy legal owners.

So what can legal growers do?
Demand caps on farm size.
Demand the elimination of trespass grows on public land be strongly prioritized.
Demand that new grows be allowed outside prime ag soil.
Demand permits for parcels without grows prior to 2016.
Demand paths for truly small farms.
Elect a new sheriff at the earliest opportunity.

The division is highlighted in the title../// Legal Cultivator\\\

By what definition?

Because everyone knows it’s the neighborhood and out of town connects that are the lube that keeps this permitting engine going. Let’s not be coy.

This is a simplified view, but let’s assume most cultivators aren’t insane polluters , or stream or spring mis- managers; the goal of both groups (dump product on the original mkt in exchange for a livelihood) is the same!!

BUT now one group is celebrated and sheilded while the other villified and abated .

Not sure how those thoughts relate to the elephant in the room: original market sales grease the permitting wheels.

So while by name and recognition the permitted cultivators are “legal” the dirty truth is that huge percentages of those harvests are sold on the street just like before, and just like their equally hungry neighbors do. Hense technically both remain illegal .

Only , instead of protecting their neighbors the “permitted” farms now actually willingly pay into a system focused on harrassing and eliminating farmers in the community who aren’t under the bogus cloak of licensing.

Smoking weed is not all that healthy, not too good for you…

Sometimes I think about taking it up again, but I like breathing, and looking at the trees, and going for a walk, and being with my partner…

I know you’re trying to make a living, so, be careful out there! Live long, prosper, work hard… What was taken can be replaced, protect your life from those who would harm you, and protect your health by not smoking.

Website is not displaying normally.

The victims here are who was being refereed to as wealthy, not your family. Isnt the smallest permit option for 6000 square feet? Why only 70 plants?

Even if your reason was not to purchase safety, that is the effect. No need to assume your reasons. The legal status at the federal level, which is what effects research and student loans, has nothing to do with the issue here.

Like it or not you joined with the law enforcement so though you might lose in many ways, the teams you’re on would be winning this battle.

The energy consumption or carbon footprint difference between indoor and outdoor is not at all what people assume it would be. Unless outdoor farmers are using native soils and growing in a very ecofreindly, yet rare, manner. And if indoor is using LED and paying redwood coast energy authority for offsets then the ecological impact of indoor would be less. Not habitat fragmentation, no light or noise pollution, no carbon foot print of transporting materials to and from distant sites, no introduction of any kind of pesticide to the environment. No massive use of giant plastics that only last a few years.

All new grows (those without evidence of a grow prior to 2016) must be on prime ag soil. There is VERY little prime ag soil in Humboldt. Why should the old law breakers get to continue on other soils if it is so harmful? Most prime ag soil occurs near the coast where it is too humid and overcast for good cannabis growing.

All parcels have to have a permit to be legal, but no permits will be granted to “new operations”. There has to be evidence that a grow was there prior to 2016. Read this,
https://humboldtgov.org/DocumentCenter/View/64173/Cannabis-Cultivation-Update-June-26-2018

Honsal has allowed the military in to bust native grows that are not trespass and not ran by foreign nationals. He has taken an aggressive stance against unpermitted grows. No one is asking for a perfect person as sheriff, just someone who recognizes that without way easier paths to legalization, and or a tolerance for unpermitted grows, Humboldt will die.

Can this kind of business even get theft insurance?

Why does everyone bother to have security cameras if they don’t have good enough resolution to ever see anyone’s face? Every crime around here seems to come with a full frontal blurry sweatshirt face shot of someone who would be identified by a decent camera.

Arrogance, stupidity or carelessness? If you can afford to have $50,000 sitting in an unlocked container and don’t keep eyes or a guard on it then I’m guessing that you don’t really need that money. So…are you extremely wealthy already? Or are you just careless? In any case I think that it is your problem, not mine. I look out for the small people who actually care for their little bits they can eke out. This sounds a lot like a rich person wanting to act like a victim. Sorry not sorry. And yes- you allowed 30 pounds of a controlled substance to easily walk out into the street. You broke regulations and you and your legal operation should be fined or better yet shut down. Because that’s what being legal means!

OS@7:03,

“On every question of constitution, let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was signed (adopted), recollect the spirit of the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.” Jefferson

The transition must occur.

~there’s nothing more consistent than selecting certain words to dogmatize. It’s been done for thousands of years. The Pharisees and scribes did it to the Torah, against whom Jesus rebelled. Later, clever Constantine the Great did that to the teachings of Jesus. The Scholastics did it to the works of Aristotle. “And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you.” 2 Peter 2:2-3.

Insurance fraud 101 here folks. I like how the dude is faking the, “gait” in his steps.
Where’s the permit for stealing your own weed because you’re so greedy you’ve become delusional?
“Looks like indoor” – Most likely more delusions of grandeur from the fine folks of this upstanding legal farm.
I take it Kym Kemp most profit off of this website to some extent , seems as if these folks were planning to most likely turn this story over to her to help solidify the so called theft. That’s a creepy paradigm all the way around. Insurance fraud is a big time felony. Maybe the l.e.o.’s will be nice and not criminally prosecute the growers at this place and just issue them exobitant fines and usurp their property for their own gains.

No accusation towards you. Guilty conscience? I’m saying its a creepy situation if your site is being used for erroneous propaganda purposes to facilitate theft and so on. Maybe the gains involved aren’t worth it in that effect.

The theft your facilitating is of logic.

The only erroneous propaganda was your comment, and 30 others, on this thread.

You mean like when you made these conclusions based on inacurate assesments of my comment?

“I’m always fascinated by folks who accuse me of crime and conspiracies and then post on here trusting that I won’t delete them…”

I never ACCUSED you of a crime or anything besides running articles on here that may be well thought out and in fact propaganda. The act of turning the blind eye isn’t an actual crime. The facility of your news site will become a propaganda campaign. Maybe you don’t directly profit off of the exact article , but ultimately you aid in the solidification of crimes in your area , not help the social aesthetic with “News”. Propaganda and news are two different things. I’m not going to go in to it here with you in an unfair debate situation where your e-culties are backing you up for what ever reason.

“I can’t even fathom that level of crazy.” You’re basically calling me crazy here indirectly and subliminally (very Californian). This has no basis on reality and infact is your subjective appreciation. You don’t want to hear that you do any wrong and that’s fine. Enjoy yourself Ms. Kemp.

I’m getting just as much money from Kym to act intelligently as you are getting from your Daddy for acting stupidly; $0.00

Victim blaming would only be an accurate assesment of my comment if in fact I am wrong and these people were actually robbed by a third party. Yet again you seek to solidify the theft accusation created by the people most likely paying you to post this on your site because it suits your interest and self gain. That’s my point , you seem a bit more interested in your profit , than actual legitamite journalism to certain extents.

Down South- Hey now wait a minute! I will defend Kym here. For the same reason I often argue with her. She is very optimistic about people and tries to only see the good side of them. Even when they suck. She is an eternal optimist and believes what people tell her. Yes- I call her naive and sometimes a sucker because many people around here are dishonest and do terrible things while maintaining a pleasant cover story. Kym will believe that cover story! It’s not a horrible trait of hers and I am probably on the other end of the spectrum (maybe with you?) But Kym doesn’t make money from it! It’s just her perspective Jah bless her. And this is her blog. And she lets everybody comment anonymously, even when we dig into her personally. I think that sometimes her positivity is misguided and she gets me pissed off but hey…people think the same of me with my eternal cynicism. Anyways…this is Kym’s eternally optimistic believe everybody’s story blog and she is doing us all a service (not making money) by allowing our comments. And I don’t think anybody but an eternal optimist would put up with moderating this crowd!! I gotta give her that!

I understand to some extent but we have to look at what the actual effects of our personal actions are.
For example, let’s say a man on the street approaches me and asks for food money. I then see in the wings a crack dealer waiting for him to get my money and return for a purchase. I must take into account the actual reality of the situation. I could really want to believe hes a good man and going to use the money for food , but if the empirical evidence is stacked agaisnt it and he will infact only buy crack, then i am also responsible for his demise, if i choose to over look the subtle details.

While we fight with ourselves over the scraps left in this business the rest of the world will eat our lunch. It has been the same here forever. Timber, fishing, dairy, or farming. In 5 years everyone will be selling trinkets to tourists unless we get it together. I think it is too late. Ordering my trinkets now
