Here are Some Terms to Remember for Wildfire Evacuation Incidents

This is a press release from the Trinity County Office of Emergency Services:

After last year’s fire season, one notable problem was the lack of standardized language between responding agencies in regards to evacuation notices being given to the public. Because of this, Cal OES, the State Sheriff’s Association and statewide fire agencies are adopting new terminology in regards to wildfire evacuation incidents. From now on, we will be utilizing the language below. We will no longer use “Advisory” or “Mandatory” in regards to evacuation notices.

Evacuation Warning: Potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.

Evacuation Order: Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to leave now. The area is lawfully closed to public access.

Shelter in Place: Stay indoors. Shut and lock doors and windows. Prepare to self-sustain until further notice and/or until being contacted by emergency personnel with additional direction.

When we have lightning roll through with multiple starts you can get yourself in the situation I was in back in 2015. I was NOT in an evacuation zone but all the roads into my place were, for over a month. Supplies got slim, especially dog food and beer. One of my dogs got an impacted salivary glad and was going to die without surgery so they gave me a pass to go out and I got resupplied, got the dog his surgery, but on the way back the CHP roadblock had changed personnel and all the USFS staff had left for the day. I almost got shot arguing that I had a pass, luckily a Van Duzen VFD guy recognized me and talked the hyperactive CHP down and got me through. Now, I always have 2 months of everything I need on hand during fire season.

This news site has got to be the best yet. Wish every body was exposed to media and commenters like this nation wide. Unbiased, and Ms. Kemp is VERY tolerant on people’s views and opinions. This IS the 1st amendment right, in full form. Abolish one, the rest will follow. Humboldt strong. America strong.
