[UPDATE 7:03 p.m.: Photo and Video] One Detained by Law Enforcement at Gunpoint Following a Traffic Accident and a Shot Fired Near Clam Beach

Breaking NewsLaw enforcement have at least two vehicles pulled over and at least one man held at gunpoint near Clam Beach Drive as of 5:50 p.m. after a call came in to 911 reporting a possible gunshot fired and a traffic collision.

Law enforcement responded and pulled over a white Mercedes and held its occupant at gunpoint. Officers are also searching for a female that reportedly fled the scene on foot.

About 5:52 p.m., a law enforcement officer requested over the radio that an ambulance respond Code 3 (with lights and siren) to the incident for a patient with a laceration to the head.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 6:07 p.m.: A reader sent us this account of what he saw,

Heard 3 shots while at the Speedy Taco truck in McKinleyville at about 5:30. About a minute later, a pickup truck chasing a car drove past. The passenger of the truck was half out of the window, screaming “We’re coming for you” at the car being chased. They proceeded north and turned onto Murray Rd towards the 101. A few minutes later I left and proceeded to Trinidad, putting me on the same path. A mile or so up the highway, there was the truck, still giving chase, following the car across the grass divider in circles. As I passed by, a Highway Patrol SUV managed to get them to stop, and the passenger jumped out and was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of traffic on foot as I lost sight of them.

UPDATE 7:03 p.m.: Reader Lyndze Gambrell sent us this video of the capture of one suspect.

Did she flee from the shooting sight or where they were pulled over

Why are they even being arrested? Not like they killed anybody. Even if they did, they’d get out of jail in 12 hrs or less. Just cite em for a failure to maintain a lane. People got work to do.

Whatever! I bet everybody gets a plea to time served (a few days) and probation. Because that’s how it goes in Humboldt Court system and that’s why people continue to act like this. Why even bother arresting them? These kinds of stories are fairly commonplace around here!

Cannabis isn’t about crime, it’s about education.

Nature can’t be transformed by anyone into the criminal realm.

The error is to apply mathmatical plus-and-minus values to nature, resulting in the separation of mind and body or spirit and matter, into unrelated oppositional domains.

~we, in the flesh, simply lack subject matter jurisdiction.

Grab a clue on your way out bud.
Pots been keeping our economy thriving for years.
Legalization is whats putting the strain on folks.
These folks need to smoke a j and calm down.

If youre fed up with justice or lack of here then get off ur ass and get Fleming out of office. Their ineptness is off the charts. Arraignments pushed back due to lack of DA availability keeps the jail full. Having to house state prisoners at our jail is not only taking space we need but has upped the danger for staff there immensely.
Spend some time at the courthouse. Write to judges.
Democracy is not a spectator sport.

Where’s the new bail reg that says its not about the money but the danger of letting individual back into society????

Well said. Amazing the amount of people who have never traveled beyond Humboldt. This stuff happens everywhere, everyday. In every state.
Perhaps if they actually got involved with their own politics and administrations as you suggest, instead of texting while they watch Fox, they might learn some reality.

Robberies, missing people, murders must not count as aggression then because those things connected to cannabis are regular fodder for the local news.

In cases like this I blame the wrong people having possession of a gun. No gun, no shots fired. Could be drugs, domestic violence, whatever; when shots are fired or guns displayed for intimidation, the gun is in the hands of the wrong person. The gun is not at fault. An asshole is at fault.

My husband was going north on Central between Airport Road and Grange, when the car and truck came flying up the Central Avenue hill, he could see them gaining on him in the rear view, driving crazy – even in the southbound lane, forcing cars to scatter to avoid a collision. He pulled off the road. it was about 5:50 PM.

They need to stop releasing these people, bail or not. The risk these knuckle heads are causing to everyone is just unacceptable. I don’t understand why the sheriffs office keeps just booking and releasing people for some of these infractions.

Look at the dipshit that killed the man in his bed Friday night. Back out on the street after posting bail, probably driving again even. It seems like this is straight up negligence on law enforcement’s part that these people are released like nothing. It should of been a clue there was a problem in 2014 when the priest was slain at St. Bernards church. That they shouldn’t be half-assing the release process. Or the multiple heroine dealers they have released after arresting only have them skip town.

This is a perfect example of why McKinleyville needs to incorporate. If McKinleyville residents are stupid enough to continue relying on the county sheriffs for protection, then McKinleyville deserves a crime wave.

Get your own cops already, McKinleyville, you cheap bastards!

Can’t believe there hasn’t been a bigger push for that. Humboldt county doesn’t want to lose control of one of their biggest cash cows and fastest growing economies in the region. Unfortunately there is no real voice to push for this.

RedWouldForest

Don’t fool yourself. There are NO “fast-growing” economies in the region, for at least a few yrs now – only “fast-collapsing.”

And now, REALLY-FAST-collapsing. We are watching our elected leaders fail on a daily (or even hourly) basis, with our own eyes.

Follow the SMART 3rd and 4th generation Humboldters in the mass exodus, or wait too long & lose EVERYTHING your family has EVER WORKED FOR – or join the corporate-minded cutthroats who will stick till they die…

Your choice. Best of luck to y’all who stay, I’m afraid you’re gonna need it. Shoulda chose our local government better…

State law mandates that a community newly incorporating must make the process revenue-neutral for the county. So McKinleyville residents will continue to pay property taxes to the county as well as for services the new city government will provide. Will McKinleyville have its own animal control officers and shelter, or contract with the county for those? It will need its own personnel department, building department, finance department, purchasing…on top of continuing to support the county, which provides those services now at greater cost efficiency. There’s not much industry and a handful of major retailers to help foot the bill. When homeowners reckon with the full cost, they are likely to vote it down, as they have in the past.

299 Commuter, you are right. NCJ just ran a well researched story on McKinleyville cityhood and reported that there was a failed vote in 1966 and some research by HSU students in 1997. Whole story, with history and current perspectives, at https://www.northcoastjournal.com/humboldt/mckinleyopolis-humboldt-countys-largest-unincorporated-area-mulls-whether-cityhood-is-a-path-to-prosperity/Content?oid=14525558
McKinleyville certainly needs better law enforcement, but maybe just beefing up the sheriff’s department would be most cost effective.

Here is a plan to get rid of the criminal element of pot once and forever in Humboldt. All concerned citizens plant it in your neighborhood and in the forest. The key here is to grow as many male plants as you can to pollinate the growers female buds. It works from miles away, put a couple males in the ground along with a female to spread more seeds and guess what all that growing it the hills will be worthless. Lets run the trash out of our county by ruining their crop. They ruined our home lets ruin their illegal lifestyle.

Easier to grow the males in one spot, collect the pollen, and distribute it from an aircraft.

This county’s “reputation” has been dead and gone for a few years now on the “world stage” of cannabis. Has-Beens. Over & done for a while now.

Didn’t notice all the “legit” “non-cannabis-related” businesses shutting down in the last few months/year? [edit]

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A NON-CANNABIS-RELATED INDUSTRY HERE IN HUMBOLDT, FOR 25+ YRS NOW.

You are as clueless as our “Fearless leaders” on our BOS (who, incidentally, make the VAST elite minority of our citizen’s profit thru exploitation of the majority.)

Congrats on your efforts to screw your neighbors, family, and friends. [edit]

No. It’s scummier than ever. Humboldt has been taking over by tweekers, thieves, junkies and vagrants. It pretty much a ghetto with lots of trees…. I trust few, pack a gun and lock up everything I own. It s the new way you have to live here in Humboldt.

Humboldt has always been a little seedy, that’s why we loved it. Back in the day most tweeks, thieves, junkies and vagrants liked to be located in the larger towns and cities where they could easily access what they “needed”. Now the lowlife population has exploded everywhere and hiding out in mostly rural areas has big appeal. Lots of dope and less law enforcement.
A lot of people have succumbed to easy, cheap dope and a lazy lifestyle.
It’s pretty sad and pathetic.

Humboldt today is a result of Prop 64…. This is what happens when the state men in tailored suits puts an entire industry out of business: Chaos, any other industry being crushed would have had Government severance packages… not the cannabis industry, because they want the small farmers and their families to go broke, move out of the hills and into the cities….They obviously hate the small cannabis farmers, just read this blog for proof. This is all thays left, thieves, addicts, pedophiles, heroin junkies and mentally unstable folks; It’s scummier than ever. Humboldt has been taking over by tweekers, thieves, junkies and vagrants. It pretty much a ghetto with lots of trees…. It s the new way you have to live here in Humboldt, good job to everybody who voted for prop 64 as well as all the prohibitionists who wanted to see small cannabis farms fail…. now we are all screwed and broke, Humboldt will fall into poverty just like the 1960’s through the 1980’s, you are all gonna wish there was still a buck to make out of your homegrown, best thing to do is just move away to a job and a house where there is still an economy, Humboldt is broken for good

I read the article about the gun shots and cars stopped at clam beach. It said nothing about several law enforcement cars racing down Reasor road and into the apartments where we heard gun shots a short a time before the chase down Murray road then some of those same cars racing back up the street with lights flashing

I was driving through at the exact moment this was going on! The brown truck did a u turn on 101 from going south to going north. They dropped the lady off right above the over pass at clam beach. She started walking south on the northbound central ave off ramp side. Meanwhile the white suv did a u turn on 101 and drove in the wrong direction going north in the fast lane of the south bound 101. It was a crazy shit show! I could not figure what the hell was going on!

The world is what you make of it for yourself…there’s only one Redwood NorthCoast -and people come from all over the world to experience the Redwoods & all the fun, beautiful things that are unique to this region. There are problems & beauty everywhere. Make Peace with Life and add to the sum total of good energy, or add to the sum total of bad energy…Those are our only 2 choices.
