Fish and Wildlife Releases Information About Cannabis Raids in Trinity and Shasta Counties

An eight inch water diversion is slowed to a trickle by a board held against the pipe by a bucket weighed down with water and cans of soda. According to Janice Mackey, when the board was removed, the water would flow about 5 150 gallons per minute into a pond. [Photo from the Department of Fish and Wildlife]

Press release from the Department of Fish and Wildlife:

Wildlife officers with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) served search warrants on five illegal marijuana grows in Trinity and Shasta counties.

A record check on each property showed no state license or county permit to grow cannabis, no CDFW Lake or Streambed Alteration Agreement had been filed, nor were any steps taken to secure any of these licenses or permits on any of the commercial-size operations.

“Illegal marijuana cultivation has no place in today’s regulated cannabis market,” said David Bess, Deputy Director and Chief of the CDFW Law Enforcement Division. “Individuals who destroy our environment and continue to cultivate illegally produced marijuana will be held accountable.”

[SHASTA COUNTY]

On June 4 and 5, CDFW served two search warrants in Shasta County where commercial cannabis cultivation is prohibited. The first warrant was served off of Spootsy Drive in the Montgomery Creek area where wildlife officers discovered 1,752 outdoor marijuana plants. Two suspects were arrested, eight firearms were seized along with $12,000 in U.S. currency. The second search warrant was served off of Nathaniel Lane also in the Montgomery Creek area where wildlife officers discovered 948 outdoor marijuana plants. One suspect was arrested.

[TRINITY COUNTY]

On June 6 ,13 and 18, wildlife officers served three search warrants in Trinity County. The first warrant was served off of Barker Creek Road near the town of Hayfork. Officers found approximately 5,273 outdoor marijuana plants and detained eight suspects. On June 13, CDFW served a search warrant in the Swift Creek Watershed off of Rancheria Creek Road and found over 1,500 outdoor marijuana plants. Two suspects were detained. On June 18, wildlife officers served a search warrant in the 100 block of Our Road in the Burnt Ranch area. Officers discovered 2,425 illegal marijuana plants and seized five firearms, which included a .223 caliber assault rifle.

Fish and Game Code violations for all grows included illegal water diversions, pesticide and petroleum products placed near streams, sediment discharge and garbage placed near waterways. Charges for all suspects will be filed with the respective county District Attorney’s office for consideration.

“Seemingly harmless cultivation activities such as water diversions and land clearing can substantially disrupt wildlife behaviors and severely damage the habitats they rely on to eat, breed and survive,” said Jennifer Nguyen, CDFW’s Cannabis Program Director.

CDFW’s cannabis program consists of scientists and law enforcement officers and is a critical component of California’s transition into a regulated cannabis industry. Staff work with cultivators to bring their facilities into compliance, provide assistance in remediating environmental violations, and facilitate enforcement actions with other local agencies to remove illegal grows. Learn more about CDFW’s role atwww.wildlife.ca.gov/cannabis.

CDFW encourages the public to report environmental crimes such as water pollution, water diversions and poaching to the CalTIP hotline by calling (888) 334-2258 or by texting information to “TIP411 (847411)”.

Hey Humboldt County sheriff, pay attention, do what they are doing, bust these scumbags pot growers. Even if they have a permit, find something, take our county back from these scumbags growers.

I fully expect the next time you are driving on any road to be pulled over by the police, strip searched, and fined and jailed for operating without a license. Oh wait, you have a driver’s license? I don’t care, find something officers!

See how you sound? You don’t know every grower. Why the hate?

Surface water well, get your facts straight. Wells that are tapped into groundwater that can be proven to be hydrologically separated from the surface water by means of a hard pack clay layer are exempt.

You are also exempt if you have a spring that is in your property and doesn’t leave, or enters into a creek that you have a repairian right to (flows thru your property)… also ground water.. from what I understand..

If you have a permit you’re legal as far as California is concerned. If you’re complying with the regulations and law and aren’t creating problems for the environment and neighbors, you’re fine as far as I’m concerned. Like it or not, times change.

CDFW has a terrible document database. I’ve seen them enforce on properties with submitted 1600s unknowingly. So I’m sure they were hurting water quality and possibly impacting wildlife but the record check statement is possibly total bullshit. Like they can’t even tell us if properties have 1600s when we ask so…

And please don’t misconstrue this as anti CDFW. I’m all for the mission statement. It would just be nice if they were more transparent, equally enforced 1600 code, and not so hostile to people in the process.

Your 1600 or 1602 is just an application.
Lake or streambed Alteration Agreement is the final product ! anyone altering class 3,2,1 watercourse needs an LSAA to be compliant during any alterations cannabis or not.
You know all of this information is available to anyone who actually wants to source the information.

There is plenty of blame to go around, but if you think Hillary and Trump, and Repubs and Dems, are the same, any rational discussion is impossible. Trump is an unabashed racist (C-Park 5, birther, etc,) who still owes Obama an apology. There is no Demo equivalent to Roy Moore ( sweet home, Alabama). This line of non-reasoning is just an excuse to vote for Trump or to stay home and contribute to the decline of our once great nation. Thanks for nothing. Maybe pull the Fox Noose IV out of your arm and read a few history books.

Oh I have read plenty of history books, why the F do you think I am Leary of the Democrats?. This little escipade is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the corruption as the Politial Parties play Good cop bad cop games with the community they serve, while they walk off with Free health care, and large salaries for public theater.. I loved Obama, I voted for Obama.. Definitely not a saint, but probably one of the least scandalous president in recent history.. good for him. But Hillary.. sorry she was Dodgy.. what happen to the money from Haiti fundraising? Also happing during the Clinton Administration was the outsourcing of American businesses to the 3rd world in a HUGE way, that tanked the working class and sent corporate profits souring.. at the same time, policies to undercut corn farmers in Mexico, so they would loose thier small farms, and have to work for pennies on a dollar for Giant corprations, while importing tax free.
Or how many of the Dairy farms that were going out of business because of over regulations, and tax cuts thanks to huge huge puss filled Walmart Milk. You all know Walmart is banking on being the “milk center of the fing universe” right.. grotesque and sad. So, that is some of the background of why people didn’t trust Hillary.. True the email thing.. a bit of a wash.. but she still put people’s lives in danger with her carelessness. True enough about Trump and his flagging mouth. It’s why I won’t vote him.. I feel like Bidden has some integrity, I just don’t see him as a fighter.. I would like Kamala, but she is very corporate and a prosecutor… not really trusting her with presidency even if I like her.. and I do not beilive she is good for small cultivators.. Anyways, I will vote my conscious, I will vote for Bernie, he is sensible to me, I don’t know if he can win.. but I will not give my vote to the Democrats after this, these policies are blantly WTO, and Control freakish, and very corporate consolidation tactics of undercutting people. F that noise… Can not in good conscious vote for them either..

Okay. So that’s what- 5 busts in 15 days? I wonder if they are starting to comprehend the absurdity of their situation yet? All they do is stabilize or increase the price on the Original Market. There is no “winning” for them. Only things that have changed since CAMP 1.0 is 1) satellite imagery and 2) civil fines against the land. People will just move grows onto logging land next door or onto unoccupied parcels if the price gets any better. And yeah- all those satellite images don’t scare anybody- you need boots on the ground actively pulling plants. And nowadays there are people pulling off grows all over the state (and Oregon too!) at levels probably close to 5X what they were in CAMP 1.0 days. Oh- another thing that’s different- criminal charges. Used to have them. Don’t really have growing weed charges anymore. So…yeah…why is everybody going to stop growing weed? They are fighting an unwinnable war. The Original Market will always undersell the government-permitted corporate market because everybody has their greedy hands all over that “legal” market. This will get interesting- I would not put my money on Gavi Newsom and Company. They deserve to fall on their faces….

Who hasn’t put a beer in the creek to make it cold? Really? Is that a $10,000 a day fine.. what.. per beer.. PLEAZE.. that scene actually looks pretty tidy, if it was an Apple Orchard or a strawberry farm it wouldn’t even dot an I.. fing tarded.

If it was an apple orchard there would be no PVC hoops, no 1 year plastic covers, 10,000 less apple trees: or 1,600 more acres for the 1,000+ apple trees, no “707” bags laying on plastic under plastic in plastic, there would be a deep regulated well, there would likely be taxes from the business helping finance your local town infrastructure.

Oh and I have yet to meet a ________ apple farmer 6 miles from pavement.

Otherwise totally equals…

All G.. Respefully TRB strawberries use plastic often, and drive down the 5 hoops upon hoops upon hoops. And yes actually drive down the Sage road in SoCal, and many others simular, and you will find massive amounts of hoops, on a dirt road. Pretty far back.. Some of the Orange groves in SoCal are on way way steeper Terrane then here. Not to mention they suck large amounts of water in some places in the deep desert from an aquifer that is not replenished nearly as fast as they take it. Hell, in Vegas they just put up a rock wool indoor/ green house grow that is probably set to drain Lake Mead!
I Do actually think water intake on this scene is not cool. They need a smaller pipe, a spring box, and screened intake, but it did say it was feeding a pond.. so, they did not show that aspect.. if they are not in an impaired water shed, it’s not the biggest deal they where using water they may have had a repairian right to.. in my mind.. Probably not the best grow int the world.. but probably not the worst either..

What about the inflated property values over the last 15 years driving up property taxes? Now the properties are worth half of what they are appraised at for taxes. So within the next couple of years the counties are going to lose a lot of tax revenues. This problem has not even been thought about by any board in any county. I bought a piece for $100,000.00 20 years ago, my last tax bill for my property was appraised for $6000,000.00. I talked to the tax guy and he was like oh your property is only worth $250,000.00. That’s a huge difference in the amount of tax paid.

SmallFry
Guest

That is a huge difference! It’s kinda like, once they raise your property taxes, I am not sure what it will take to lower them??? Hopefully the county will come to a sensible solution.. but that is not what I am seeing.. since the beginning of this escapade…not at all.

First you get a copy of your property assessment, look at the value it was assessed at and when, then look for discrepancies between that value and the current value of your property.

Then once you are sure your property is worth less than the assessed price, you get an independent property assessment.

Next hire an attorney, call your tax office, and get a hearing to present your facts and reduce your property taxes.

The gov’t assessor will always assess your property value as higher than the last assessment, regardless of true market value of your property.

Also, it helps if the whole community, or neighborhood does it to show that property values have diminished as a whole. It will make for a more solid case and take away the ability of the county to compare your privately assessed property value to a similar neighboring property that the county has assessed the value of.

I look forward to working with everyone in our communities to lower our property taxes as the value of our properties continues to plummet.

None of this will matter in the future. Pot will cost 20 a pack and only super large commercial farms will be able to make a profit. Welcome to corporate take over. As soon as Oregon and other states gets laws passed to export to California the price will drop to nothing. Black market included. I predicted 1 dollar grams 3 years ago and everybody told Me I was wrong. Some of You may remember Me saying that if You can not make a profit on a dollar a gram You will go Bankrupt. Well My new prediction is Time and Huge Corporations will do what Law Enforcement could not get done. They will stomp Your pot business in to the ground. The price will be dropped, and the Huge Corparations will take a loss, wait for everyone to go out of business and will then buy up all the production they can and take control of the complete Market on Cannabis. Pot growers will be taken down just like Walmart is taking down Main street retail. Its ok though since MOST (but not all) pot growers are criminals and will start selling worse drugs and commit other crimes to make their money. Problem solved.

Better future thoughts, big corporations will start to produce less and less quality canabis, and as soon as the see fit they will skyrocket the prices.. actually let me paint a better picture.. the corporate goonies out grow themselves and end up like the cut flower houses they have inhabited. The huge amount of overhead and taxes they have imposed on themselves makes them vulnerable. Small farms actually produce a quality pound for half as much big boats can, because they have a large number of employees, and most of everything myself or with a small number of employees.. People get really sick of living next to an eternal giant skunk and send half the corporate mush packing. Guess what. With just a hand full of grows here in the triangle, the threshold of the market has already been broken.. What’s going to be even more Hilarious is when they legalized mass volumes of cannabis, not because it was right.. but because they thought it was the next backbone of a failed resource economy only to open thier palms, and find them empty and Cannabis legal… Guess what.. you can’t smoke $$$ either.. (edit)

Future always coming through with the knowledge… nothing but truth right there brotha. Black market cannabis in California life is limited. They’re already selling $25 eigths of topshelf, tax included. Not every dispo just yet but before long it wont make sense to buy on the black market except for to support friends and family still living off of it. It’s scary but relieving at the same time… a bitter sweet divorce I guess you could say. No more black market scares the shit out of me but there will always be change. Either go with the flow or drown in the current. It sucks seeing crops getting destroyed regardless.

That sounds like a solid group of people that don’t want to be forced into watching stoned zombies play bongo drums in parks and turn the bushes into their bathroom.

Marijuana users are known to pile up large amounts of trash, as can be seen on Kym’s site, marijuana addicts also commit many, many other crimes, including their war against nature.

The drug itself causes this anti social behavior and once they become addicted the piles of garbage grow hand in hand with environmental destruction.

The average marijuana addict spends their time not trying to be productive, but compete against each other in obtaining the largest trash pile, most nature destruction, and plot murder rampages, all due to the affect of the drug.

There is no real way to help the brain damaged marijuana addict, other than jailing them.

Thank you for sharing this link with everyone on this anti marijuana website.

There are a couple trees you could maybe fall into the creek to damn it up for my pond, ya know, since you’re a logger and stuff, I hear ya’ll are pretty good at sending em over backwards into the creek. Anyway I’ve about finsihed my PBR’s and my dope addled brain has a plot for a nice watertower to climb to let some lead raindrops fall. Better watch out, I can feel the Madness seeping in.

Yes. Kym has done a great job of opening all of our eyes to the wanton destruction of growers. Thanks to her we have a full record of the growers’ evolving line of excuses for their immoral drugging of the children of America. “What about the children?” asked nobody ever as they sold a hundred pounds to east coast brokers…driving off in their shiny new growdozers with their golden pit bulls to their backwoods McMansions. (As I watched from the Honeydew bridge…..

I’m just glad Herr Chump is back at it, dude is hilarious. And I personally have multiple golden pit bulls. I appreciate the performance.

The myth of Rambo was created after the embarrassments in Vietnam. You can’t carpet bomb an jnsurgency and you can’t cut the head off of a rhizome.

Thanks again for pulling the covers on our representatives and what there motives really are for prop 64.its not about the people, and we definitely ain’t buying the environmental lie any more.its about the extreme greed of Californias government. The most heavily extorted people in the nation next to new York.

Funny yesterday, left a comment on here, not political but the word Democrats was typed and it was removed. Weird cause all I see here now is political talk. Thanks Kym.

Other issues aside, the plants are set up pretty well in large, above-ground containers which are far more efficient than in-ground plants which consume excessive water and fertilizer and are vulnerable to more pests and invasive roots from local vegetation. Major flaw is lack of pallets under pots which would prevent roots from growing into or out of drainage holes and allows accurate monitoring of watering regimen and conservation of fertilizer. Pallets allow you to observe and adjust your irrigation regimen to allow for a bit of drainage and that’s it. No wasted water or fertilizer, and minimal environmental impact.

Lost Croat- But the air temperatures surrounding those above-ground containers soar up above 100 degrees on some days. The heat bakes water out of the soil and hurts the roots at the edges also. Since your soil pot is surrounded by air it is like putting your soil pots into an oven. In-ground the soil temperatures remain constant so if you know what you’re doing you actually use less water….Am I right? Or are you wrong?

I agree with you Farce… your right. Actually, the bagged soil epidemic really sucks, in a lot of ways. They are too convient I think is the problem, expensive though.. I have some roots bags, I am on my 3 rd year using them for a pretty small project. (Recycled, too boot) I actually make my own pots.. I will build beds next year with the old roots bags..

This is ass backwards.

If you want to use less water than minimize perlite ( or zeolite) and dont use pots.

The ground stays 55-65 degrees, cooler a few inches down.

A pot, or worse a pot on a pallet, is limited in soil and exposed to outside air temps. Water running out of a pot is water wasted.

If you need help, envision a fruit tree in your yard. Then picture ripping it out to put it in a pot on a pallet. Does it look right? No.

Nothing besides a house plant ornamental should be in a pot.

I agree, at least someone else can see through that particular brand of humor. Its dark, twisted, and ludicrous, just like mine. I think we could drink a few beers together.

The President of the Fish and Wildlife Commission has a conflict of interest considering he owns 2 cannabis businesses in Napa County, no wonder Fish and Wildlife are cracking down so hard on cannabis farms, it is price security for the President of the Fish and Wildlife….. law of supply and demand… why isnt anybody talking about this in the Media? How about an article Kym?
